So incredibly important to know! I remember back in the '90s and early 2000s where I would mail a printed copy of my stories to myself to get that copyright aspect. Thankfully, we can do things more directly now. I kinda enjoy making a copyright page in my unpublished drafts because it finals so official and fancy. 😛

Automatic copyrights apply in Canada. You don't need the extra steps you have to take in the US but you should file and submit your work here: ised-isde.canada.ca/site/canadian-intellectual-property-office/en/copyright/registration-copyright-filing-online
Perfect timing for this video! I'm working on copyright information this week. Please clarify if the work only has to be unpublished at the time of filing or has to remain unpublished until the copyright is finalized. Also, I had concerns regarding registration details being public record, including home address. I don't have a business location and don't want the expense of an ongoing PO box for this purpose alone. At the same time, I don't want my personal information exposed. Any ideas or suggestions? You can file anytime ... unpublished or published. I addressed some of this here: ruclips.net/video/ck54yeNZ1qE/видео.html Protecting your address isn't as easy and I don't feel like I am able to give good advice on that. Check with author forums to see what other authors do in this case. I've always used a business address.
