  • I'm very proud of myself for not succumbing to temptation and resisting the urge to buy all of the things in The Garden House in Malahide on a recent visit! But in the interest of autumn garden inspiration, I filmed some clips there to see you what you could pick up to add lots of autumn colour.
I decided to film a little garden update as it's been a while and showed all of the pops of colour in the garden along with my cuttings updates! Which ones made it and which ones didn't?

I think I have a bulb buying problem, I can't stop. 😅 Every time I go into Home Bargins and Tesco I'm putting packets of bulbs in my trolley. I have to walk past a garden centre to get to HB and I'm trying desperately not to go in...My bank balance is sweating when I'm walking towards said garden centre but to turn that into a positive I'll have a lovely garden of flowers next spring, lol. 😂😂😂

I keep all the dead vegetables stalks and cut them into bits to spread over the compost in the veg beds. It will turn into free mulch so next spring I will add either horse manure compost or regular compost.

Karen, you look like you feel so much better. Your makeup looks amazing! The garden is still looking good. Awesome that your cuttings have rooted. I took a rooted piece from my hydrangea and planted it. It looked dead. I cut it completely back and it’s so beautiful and about two feet tall and almost as wide now. I’ve rooted so many salvias. I’m so excited to have my new free plants for next year. I feel overall that I’ve done well but I didn’t have the colour that I should have. Mine was all purples and light pinks. Pretty but I want colours next year. You and Catherine had such beautiful flowers. Such a great summer for y’all.

Hi Karen, I'm over from Catherine's channel - love seeing your garden. Conveniently I just learnt from you what one of my potted flowers are called 😂Antirrhinum Potomac I have three different variations of them, they're so gorgeous! Are they also called snapdragons?

You dont need to take cuttings of the Erigeron,Karen, just pull them in to small clumps and pop in seperate pots ..Always change pots in spring then if you get vine weevils in winter ,you'll be aware and get rid of them .Gardens looking lovely 🙂

How wonderful the cuttings took. You'll want to keep heat loving cuttings like salvia amistad and gaura protected from winter cold and excess moisture. The aster is so pretty.

Your garden looks lovely Karen my neighbour has made raised beds this summer and she has horses so has been putting the poo in the beds to leave over winter and plant up next year.
So my little raised bed which I overplanted this year may get some poo once everything has done also I've been adding compost from pots in the greenhouse., and my potato planters.
Like you I am experimenting so fingers crossed.
    Thanks for sharing xx

In order to get larger apples you have to thin them out. So when you get a bunch of about 6/8 apples hanging together take 3 or 4 and the ones that are left will grow larger. We had to do that with our trees on the say so of an expert and it does work 😊 The garden is looking lovely. I can't wait to start growing autumn veggies. 😊

I change the pots about end of February, but I don't often empty the bigger pots completely. Just add a mixture of compost and manure and a handful of blood and boan feed😊

You can amend your soil at any time to give your plants a burst of energy. Just dump some soil out and add new. On the tall plants in the front you need to zig zag the plants. One tall plant back then one forward to mid way with shorter or fuller plants in between. That's the way we plant grasses in Texas for the best visual. Have a great week.

I freshen up my pots every spring because up here 🇨🇦 everything freezes and dies so I start fresh. The soil that was in the pots I toss into the raised beds and flower beds (there'll still be some nutrients in it cuz different plants use up different nutrients). Anyway, waste not want not eh?

I put sheep manure or mushroom compost on my veg beds in the fall. I do chop and drop or use clippings as mulch on my flower beds and in areas a bit overgrown during the growing season. I'm learning too. Great garden.

Lovely to see you doing makeup at the start of this video, I've missed them. You're sounding better, Karen, hope you're feeling better too 😊 Your nasturtiums are wonderful, unfortunately I've never had success with them. Lovely garden tour. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ... so it's your decision where to plant large or small, front or back, whatever brings you joy in your garden 😊 See you soon, maybe with more makeup/skincare content for winter. Thanks for sharing.

I would say to leave the soil in the pots until the spring. The plants will go dormant over winter so won't need feeding. But you do you. No harm if you want to change it in Autumn.

Hun you can make a spiderweb of twine on stakes in the spring over your plants that grow in tall so they can grow up through it and be supported. Drive stakes around the outer edges and just zigzag the twine back and forth wraping it or tying it to the stakes over the plant and let the plant grow through it. You can do it in more the one layer. You can use wire like for fencing fastened to stake horizontally over the plants.

Hi, lovely video! I have Erigeron Karvinskianus in my garden - bought a tiny plant ten years ago and it has seeded all over my garden - it comes up in cracks in the patio, in pots, in every flowerbed! Each flower has hundreds of seeds and they blow all over the garden on the breeze! I wouldn't bother taking cuttings, just break up dead flowers wherever you want more plants!

    • @Lovelygirliebits
      @Lovelygirliebits  Год назад +1

I can't wait to see where they pop up! And I think you're right, I'll divide the plants and see how I get on! I think I was just so happy with the way my cuttings established that now I feel like I can propagate more!
