    Leaps and bounds above any other goalie content I could expect for draft prep. 👏👏🙌

    Alright, you convinced me - i'm going with the Zero G strategy - 14 players league and drafting 2nd

    Great stuff! Fun fact I didn’t actually draft any of the three guys I ended up with - that’s the beauty of ZeroG at work! Just recorded my goalie video for this year yesterday coming out this weekend goalies must be on the collective fantasy hockey mind haha 😂

    You didnt touch on Markstrom. Curious what you think of him...his adp isnt absurd and there is a lot to like about him and the devils--pretty good back-end on paper. Specially with Lindy Ruff out (very offensive bias) too. You could use one of your last draft picks for Jake Allen and secure the tandem. You could play out the first few weeks of the season and gauge how they look under Keefe.... I had similar thoughts too if Demko falls in your lap then you could could scoop Silovs late.

    • @datadraft371
      @datadraft371  День назад

      Markstrom is kind of all over the map. When he has a really good defense in front of him (Daryl Sutter Calgary Teams) he can rack up shutouts and become a Vezina candidate, If he doesn't he's unpredictable. He should have a good defense this year, Keefe had a pretty good system in Toronto and the Devils have more to work with on the back end. I expect him to get over drafted this year based on the narrative of the Devils being a huge bounceback team. If that's not the case and he falls in ADP he'd definitely be a target. Right now he's at 60ish ADP which should be decent value

      Or just take Levi, Grubauer and Vladar on the waiver wire. Every year ppl overthink goalies and play favourites. All those guys you mentioned were available on the wire last season.
      The difference is so tiny that the draft picks arent worth it, just play the first week matchup with sabres and devils players, youll get more production than that goalie differential.

  • @shakeypudding6563
    @shakeypudding6563 День назад

    Excellent work. Thoughts on UPL and Kuemper. LA plays such a sound defensive system that goalie always do well there…look at Talbot.

  • @Vonzuli
    @Vonzuli 2 дня назад +1

    This is great content as per usual. Only thing I would mention is maybe reconsider the tandem part of the Zero G strat.
    One of your tandem picks may outpace the other, which generally means that 1 of your picks ends up being sub optimal or they could end up sharing the net and you end up holding one or both of them longer than you should cause you feel handcuffed to the tandem. You also end up with less goalie games played overall, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it.

    • @datadraft371
      @datadraft371  2 дня назад +3

      I hear you on that, for sure. You don't have to go tandem but I think the emphasis is on a good defensive team

    • @ktowniecity7269
      @ktowniecity7269 2 дня назад

      Exactly there are too many examples of variance. I remember in Christobel Huet had a .925 save % in 37 games in 2006 whereas his tandem partner was Theodore at .898 in 38 games.

    What would your strategy be in a 17-team points league? The problem is that you have to reach a total of 164 goalie appearances, and if you wait too long and don't get a starter, you might end up needing to have 5 goalies on your roster. I am picking at 15!

  • @RownPop
    @RownPop 2 дня назад

    Always love your contents, thanks!
    Got a question for you: I’m in a league with W, SV, GAA, and SV% as cats but with only 2 BN spots and 3 weekly pick ups. I feel like tandem is not going to provide enough volume at times, and allocating 1 of 3 pick ups to stream goalies each week may be too expensive. Curious if you’d feel the same way under same league settings? And in this case, would you target a bonafide starter like you mentioned for 4-9th draft positions to work around this setting? Thanks!

  • @KDial

    Excellent! Regarding playing behind a good defense. I started doing that about 15+ years ago when Lemaire coached at Minnesota. But I wish that you would address this; I take into account what percentage the Goalie stats account for in your scoring. In most of my leagues they are over 35%, which is over 1/3 of total fantasy scoring.
    In the past 10 years people do not seem to take this into account, and this is a huge chunk of your scoring. What's your opinion on this?

    • @datadraft371
      @datadraft371  День назад

      I definitely think that percentage matters in cats leagues which is why I had the other strategy where you take the last elite g1. I can't justify fading goalies when they're 40% of my scoring per week. In a points league I think it's less important and you can fade goalies

    • @ktowniecity7269
      @ktowniecity7269 День назад

      goalies should be treated like kickers in fantasy football. every year they fluctuate so much. just dont draft them. the only value play seems to be Vasilevskiy in rounds 4-5 in 12 TM when hes always been a tp 2 round goalies and is in the same stratosphere as Helle and Shesterkin

    What do you think about not drafting a goalie at all, and micromanaging your team to fill in extra forward/D spots with what would be goalies?

    • @datadraft371
      @datadraft371  День назад

      I think that's a bit extreme, it would only theoretically work in points leagues and even then you'd have to make up whatever your goalies would normally put up nightly with some form of schedule manipulation and you only have a limited number of skater spots open per day

    • @mcthunderstick2374
      @mcthunderstick2374 День назад

      @@datadraft371 I built a spreadsheet for each week and I’ve been comparing running 2 goalies vs swapping out the goalies for 1 D and 1 Forward. My league gets 4 swaps per week and has shots, hits and blocks. I’ve noticed that on average by micromanaging my weekly schedules with streamers (10 man league so a fair amount of talent left FA) I can increase my number of actually played games per night, since goalies tend to only have 2/3 starts per week.
      I’m just curious how this would stack up points wise to streaming bottom tier goalies. My league runs 5W -3GA 5SO and 0.6Sv, so goalies can be lucrative but also hurt if they get slapped around in a game.
      I guess my point is more, I feel like I can effectively manage my schedule each week to reduce the inconsistent nature of goaltenders with top 6 forwards and maybe drafting defencemen a bit higher than usual to ensure higher performance from defencemen.
      No real need to respond to all this, just figured I’d share my oddball strategy since you love analyzing this stuff so much and do an excellent job at it.
      I should also mention my player points are 6G 4A 2+- 2PPP 0.9(shot hit block)

    Washington is definitely not a good defensive team and Chychrun is an offensive defenceman that is lost in his own end as the -30 can explain in OTTAWA.
    I wouldnt reach on Lindgren/Thompson. You'll find the same caliber on the waiver wire.
    Guys like Wallstedt, Levi, Knight could all be very good. Just wait on goalies.

    • @datadraft371
      @datadraft371  2 дня назад

      They had a relatively low team GA, Kuemper sucked and they were hemmed in their own zone because their offense was Terrible. Roy is solid defensively, I'll concede all your points on chychrun and not reaching for them

    12:50: If you are in the middle of the draft, it is your turn and two of goalies are left, would have to make a judgement as to whether both of them may go before your next turn? That may mean jumping a little bit earlier. Or is take a skater and then OK, if both goalies are gone, I take the best option in next tier below "Elite"?
