    I'm not sure if Laphroaig has changed their bottling % for the 10 year, but I just enjoyed a Laphroaig 10 year @ 43% and it was glorious! I think I prefer Lagavulin 16, even though it is twice the money. Welcome Autumn and all you glorious peats! Thanks for the reviews guys! Keep'em coming!

      +mikeaknightful ...Thanks for tuning in! This was the "Cask Strength" Ten year to explain the higher %. We did just review Ardbeg Uigedail and our review of the Lagavulin will be coming up soon.

      Sounds great. Yeah - I knew you guys have cask strength. I just was curious about the 40% you mentioned and whether or not they went up to 43% or what that all along. Slainte mhath!

    older video I know, but I just picked up this year's batch 11 and tried some. Just off the neck pour alone, so much better than the regular 10, if I take a sip and let the finish sit a bit while exhaling, makes me salivate so much. love the high proof islay's. Ardbeg uigeiadal also a favorite :)
    next up on the list to try is corryvreckan me thinks

    I've just picked up a Carn Mor independent Laphroaig 8 year old bottled at 63.4% ABV. It is absolutely ridiculous! Not much complexity but pure intense bonfire peat, toffee and an almighty finish.. Will pick up a 10 year CS to see how it compares., but this one will take some beating.

    Nice to see it reviewed here! I make sure to buy the latest release of their cask strength every year because it's by far the best bang for the buck/quid/euro laphroaig out there. It just blows the 10yo and especially the Select out of the water. Not as refined and mellow as the 18yo but that's a whole different beast and at least twice as expensive.

    • @ScotchTestDummies
      @ScotchTestDummies  9 лет назад +1

      ***** .... I just saw the 18 year at the liquor store and considered buying it ($90) which i didn't think was too bad.

    • @craftyklaus
      @craftyklaus 9 лет назад +2

      Scotch Test Dummies For 90$ go ahead and buy it! Over here it's over 100€ IF you can still find it (unless you're lucky and find a shop selling it at the old price). It's basically discontinued, just the remaining bottles being distributed and sold off at inflated prices almost everywhere...

    Came back to the cask strength the other day after it being on the self for a little. It was such a different flavor. Drank it neat and it tasted sweeter then I remember. So good. Love the peat. Keep up the awesome reviews.

    I hope you and your family are having a wonderful 4th of July. Thanks for the review. I have only had Laphroaig CA, which I enjoyed. It had a strong aroma of smoke, like a BBQ, and a slight sweetness if you keep at it and get past the smoke. The taste was BBQ with a hint of ashtray???, but not in a bad way. It does have a underlying sweetness and a hint of malt grain. No medicinal peat though.

    Hey Guys:
    Had a glass of LAPHROAIG Quarter Cask while I was cooking on Tuesday. No Saccharine at all in the Finish. Actually a nice Spearmint in the end. The Saccharine was Definitely a result of the SUGAR FREE Werther's I had earlier in the evening. Mike

      Re-watching the LAPHROAIG 10 vs. ARDBEG 10 Shootout. Expect to pick up ARDBEG 10 in a couple of weeks.
      BTW, I was in buying a replacement bottle of OLD GRAND-DAD BIB and also wanted OLD GRAND-DAD 114. I could not Find it. The Nice woman behind the counter Checked in the Back, to No Avail and one of the guys came out from the back and said it had disappeared from the Beam Catalogue they were unable to find it, SO It seems that OLD GRAND-DAD 114 is officially Discontinued. Fortunately, I bought a Bottle a couple of weeks before Christmas. If you see Bottles snatch'em up. Mike

    Watching this almost 5 years after it posted (July 4, 2019 is next week). It is interesting to see how far Scott has come in his appreciation of peat. Was this an NAS? I really like the Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength bottles, most recently the Batch 10.

    If you are interested in a sherry finished peated Islay, the Bowmore 15yo darkest I personally think is very good. I looked and don't think you have tested it yet and for $72 to $80 a bottle around here I hope someday you do.

    • @ScotchTestDummies
      @ScotchTestDummies  8 лет назад

      It sounds great...for us that is like Scott putting his peanut butter in my chocolate. Maybe we will both love it. Bart

    • @keithpetersen560
      @keithpetersen560 8 лет назад +1

      Robert, I just bought the Bowmore 15 darkest and it is the 1st Bowmore I've had. It is sharp, has heat on the front tongue and a dry finish. I saw a review where he did not like it at first, though it got better as the bottle got more oxidized. I probably won't buy this again and will go for the Bowmore 18 next.

    • @onedayaway1297
      @onedayaway1297 8 лет назад

      +Keith Petersen I found when I got near the bottom after taking 6 months to get to it got bitter I assume due to oxidation . After much contemplation the Caol Ila is much better a little more expensive but much better, So I will probably not by it again as well.

    • @keithpetersen560
      @keithpetersen560 8 лет назад

      Robert I agree. I don't want to wait 6 months to start enjoying a bottle of scotch. I've never had a Caol Ila. Which bottle are you recommending?

    • @onedayaway1297
      @onedayaway1297 8 лет назад

      Caol Ila 18 it is about 20 dollars more around here than the bowmore. If you can find the signatory 15yo unchillfiltered collection Caol ila it is better and slighly cheaper.

    Laphroaig good Stuff! Can't wait to try this cask strength 10 yr old, we Just had our July outrun tasting for SMWS up here in the great white north and we had a 22 yr old Laphroaig release, ABV 51.2, can't wait to actually compare them together.
    I enjoy all styles of scotch but am fussy about the peated ones, this Laphroaig was very good having a very all round peat taste, not being all front or end, very smooth. Will be a good comparison tasting.
    thx for the review and the lack of Yoga and overly tight shirts LOL

    • @ScotchTestDummies
      @ScotchTestDummies  9 лет назад +3

      superdukeism ...from Scott, peated scotches aren't my forte' either, but they're growing on me. I still mostly prefer anything thats been in a sherry cask. I could still pick up other notes in this Laphroaig over the peat as well and thought it was a well rounded and smooth heavily heated scotch.

    Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength is on my 'to do list' but its very hard to find here in Australia.
    Have you guys tried the Laphroaig 18? (if so, how does it compare to the 10yr cask strength?)

    • @ScotchTestDummies
      @ScotchTestDummies  7 лет назад +1

      Perfect. I (bart) never even paid attention to the bottle number. Figured they really pushed for consistency for the 10 year. I will pay much more attention as I move forward.

    • @thewhiskyscout1238
      @thewhiskyscout1238 7 лет назад

      The 006 vs 007 I have had are very similar with the 006 has a better finish to my palate but both are great and give a different day or setting that could change. There are slight differences in ABV as well since it is a once a year batching. The different abv's I know about 007=56.3%, 006=58%, and your 004=58.6% are all very close. If you google you can find other people have also noted subtle differences.

  • @keithjensen3810
    @keithjensen3810 6 лет назад

    The nose and taste of this batch 004 is definitely my favorite so far after having put it up against batches 007 & 008. 008 falls way short and will not be coming home again.

    I have a complaint about the Laphroaig 10 year cask strength that you did not cover. I find the whiskey disappears much faster than the other whiskeys on my shelf. This is, without a doubt, my favorite whiskey. I am getting up the courage to try Ardbeg 10...but I'm worried it won't hold a candle to Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength. We'll see.

    • @ScotchTestDummies

      +Luis Wells ...the Laphroaig Cask Strength and Ardbeg 10 are both on Bart's favorite list. And we hold no responsibility to how fast your whisky disappears off the shelf!

    Hey Guys:
    Enjoyed a Laphroaig Tasting event with the Laphroaig Choir at Caledonia in NYC last on Tuesday, Brand Ambassador Simon Brooking led tastings of Laphroaig 10, Lophroaig Lore and Laphroaig Select and there were special prices on drams of Laphroaig. To top off the evening the Laphroaig Choir sang songs created from our written reactions to the taste of Laphroaig.
    This is a Traveling show so go to www.laphroaig.com to see if the event will visit your area. It was Great Fun

    Hey Guys:
    As you may know by know, I had a glass of LAPHROAIG 10 C.S. the other night and while nosing I got another Cedar Water Note as I did in OLD GRAND-DAD Bottled in Bond. Strange No?
    It is interesting that that note showed up in a LAPHROAIG, but the Pine Barrens of New Jersey which are hydrated by Cedar Water, with a high water table, are home to Cranberry and Blueberry BOGS. As you may know Peat is also harvested from BOGS. HMMM!

    Scott:
    I like peated whiskies, but not ones that are peated just for "Peats"sake 😁. The peat should be uniting part of the whole cask flavours, not just peated as an afterthought or marketing ploy. As far as the Yeti liking smokey flavours I assume he inhaled plenty of smoke seating by the campfire 😏😉😜.
