Initial idea was to keep cost as low as possible. Linear guide rails bigger than hgr20 gets very expensive. I wouldn't even consider to convert this machine to CNC, I like conventional machines. For CNC I would go with totally different design.

so much effort. why not use linear guide rails? future u transform to cnc milling...

Hi, It wasn't cheap :P I've never calculate exact cost but whole project including buying needed tools etc could reach easilly 1200$
