  • From 'uncool' niche to 9 figure business with Simon Mottram, Founder of Rapha | Ep. 13, Working Hard, Hardly Working Podcast.
Introducing, episode 13 of the Working Hard, Hardly Working podcast, featuring Simon Mottram - the man who made cycling cool (and very lucrative).
As a passionate cyclist for more than 30 years, Simon made a brand out of his passion by founding Rapha back in 2004, and in 2017, Simon sold his business for a short $200 million.
Not only did Simon's niche business idea go from zero to 100 within these 13 years, through an innovative marketing approach and direct to consumer model, but Simon is also an investor in my business, TALA.
So if you want advice on how to launch your own business, then this is an ep of my Working Hard, Hardly Working podcast you're gonna' want to listen to!

Great interview Grace. I was one of the founding investors and as you’d expect know the Rapha story and Simon intimately. However you managed to tease out some fresh and inspiring thinking that was new to me.

At 14 mins, he mentions something and it's easy to miss but if you really think about it, it must have felt super discouraging: He was only able to raise £40,000 from 200 meetings (I'm guessing those were investor meetings)! WOW. That must have been tough.

As a keen cyclist myself and soon to be working at Rouleur magazine (once owned by Rapha), I loved this episode! Really interesting to hear from Simon and to see he is an investor in Tala - my fav activewear brand :) Can't wait for the next episode.

The biggest war for feminism and human rights is happening in Iran, right now. If you're living on earth and you're being silent, you don't get to talk about women rights anymore! #MahsaAmini
