I know it's just stuff, but it still takes a huge emotional toll to see the life you've built and the things you've worked hard for to be torn apart in seconds. Here's to hoping they have good insurance and can rebuild as smoothly as possible.
My brother lives in Oklahoma and I was shocked to hear that they don't require a storm shelter on each property. You are literally sitting ducks just waiting for nature to call your number down there.
It should be a building code mandatory for tornado alley paths anywhere a tornado can happen housing should always include a shelter to be tornado proof even for apt buildings a shelter should be provided on grounds nearby ....that is insane to me..,human lives are not disposable and should never be so irrelevant that providing safety is optional...there should be a state funding to ensure all dwellings include a tornado shelter adequate for number of residents no matter what!!!!! How horrific ....the building contractors don't feel a thing they take the money and run but where is the state on this crap they have one you better know they surely have a tornado shelter and on the citizens dimes taxpayers keep the lawmakers safe what a disconnect and betrayal of the citizens who put food in their mouths not to mention all the luxurious living the governor congressmen and senators live representatives too mayors and chiefs..chambers of commerce those members make bank lawmakers and dept of housing get your spit together.
When the air gets forced under it, its shape catches the air like a sail. It's got a big flat surface area for the wind to push on. The tornado probably pushed a huge amount of air into the main level while also shoving the roof sideways. The shearing load was too much and the whole thing just tore off. Scary as heck, glad they were safe in the basement.
Hopefully new construction will use hurricane ties and have a continuous uplift load path to the foundation. Biggest thing is preventing the roof from lifting off like a wing.
but they are in a pull yer self up by ya boot straps don't need to welfare red state. They will just have to suck it up and pull themselves up and not take a handout
Judging by the depth of the home, it's not a house. It's a DOUBLE-WIDE placed over a basement foundation instead of on a slab. EDIT: before the nasty replies come in...okay...it's a MANUFACTURED HOME that was either fully built in a factory and then trailered to the site OR it was modular and the factory-built modules were assembled and set on the beams over the basement. Obviously, the stairs are either an available option or a special modification and, either way, it saved their lives.
People dont understand why we have basements, until uou explain what tornadoes do to things above ground. Keep change of clothes, shoes, rain jackets and food/water in basement, plus flash lights and 💤 sleeping gear.
Wow! God blessed them with commonsense. Tornados are just amazing in power. Are homes built in the tornado alley have the same building codes as those in the Hurricane zones? Cheers
Where are they gonna live now? Since a lot of the homes around them are ruined. The architectures should build tornado alley homes to not be so destructible rebuilding process. A home is phenomenal constantly rebuilding
Sad it's that time of the year have to put in all houses being built should have a steel bunker to go to when this happens! Basements are good only if the tornado doesn't go over the house because basement or not it will suck you out ! Bless all that have been affected!
Gods mercy thank you Jesus thank you Great Creator of all heaven and earth and every living thing that these families are safe and sound things can be replaced but lives cannot and anywhere you live with loved ones is home!!!!
The hospital in Joplin, Missouri was a midrise of reinforced concrete. The tornado in 2011 picked it up and shifted it about 4" off of the foundation and killed several people inside. Building "tornado-proof" is a fool's errand. Better to just have a basement if something happens and to rebuild after.
I didn't see a single hurricane clip used to atach the rafters to the walls. It might tear off the roof sheathing, but it isnt going to take the rafters off when they are used.
Tornadoes will destroy a brick building more easily than a wooden one. The walls on this one actually held up pretty well too. Hurricane ties, which are becoming popular in Tornado Alley, might have even prevented the roof from being torn off.
Clearly the walls held up though when the roof was torn off. Brick is actually more likely to collapse in a tornado than wood framing anyways. If this was a solid brick house, then there'd be nothing but a pile of rubble.
What does the government have to do with tornadoes, other than nothing available to help real citizens because all $ goes overseas and to the illegal invaders of our country??
Wow. Whoever installed those kitchen cabinets needs this footage.
True 😊
The cabinets always stay
No mollies holding them up, those are screwed right to the studs. I'd say the dishes and glasses are still clean.
Looked like it was a beautiful home. But the basement was a lifesaver! Hope they make a speedy recovery from this disaster
The living room is very spacious.
I'm glad they heeded and didn't stand there recording. I live in another part of the state and am glad to learn that so far, no fatalities.
So sad they lost their home😢 but thank god they are not hurt.❤
That roof lifted off clean. No strapping between the roof rafters and walls. Hurricane straps are your friend. Wish them good will and rebuilding!
🙏🏻Hoping all our neighbors in Iowa and Nebraska are okay. Sorry for your loss, now onto a rapid recovery

I'm so sorry that your beautiful home was destroyed but very happy that you had a basement where you could go for safety. 🙏❤
The warnings saved lives 👏🏼

Those Oklahoma tornadoes don't play around!

it's so odd that a roof can literally lift off, while objects inside the house remain there.

@@star-army You can see roofs literally lifting off into the air - and then disintegrating - in more than one tornado video. It's really remarkable.
......pressure, in any sense, can be crazy.
Living in the midwest, it is pretty much a necessity to have a basement.
Wow!! What power and force. Very reason, we are not to love this world or the things in it. Anything can come along and take it all away.
Hopefully new construction will use hurricane ties and have a continuous uplift load path to the foundation. Biggest thing is preventing the roof from lifting off like a wing.
I'm not sure if that would help here.
My God! I hope they get a new home and thank God they were ok! 😢❤
Lost my home 2 years ago. Still no home. It's beyond difficult to survive these days.
but God causes the tornados
All that beautiful wood. Thank goodness the family was safe.
Glad they are okay. And they are smart for coverage. The ones who do not listen and want to watch ,well it's on them if they get hurt
Oh how horrible for these people. I hope they are able to rebuild and recover.
Is heartbreaking
It really is just losing everything you work for
Thanks to science for developing the warning systems.
I'd defiantly check to see if there was any beer in that fridge.....
That was probably the 2nd thing they grabbed 😣😣🤣🤣
and we just sent billions to more wars across the country 🤧
Would you rather have Putin tell you how to live your life?

would have been nice if you actually showed the basement

If you live in tornado areas, you really need to build different types of homes, a dome house is safest
The weather channel should report how government weather modifications programs are causing climate change.

Wrath has gone forth,
a whirling tempest;
it will burst upon the head of the wicked.

Hurricane straps are worth the extra cost when building!
It's a good thing that they don't live on top of a volcano or where they have hurricanes, they would have been really dangerous places to live.

Y is the fire alarm going off
We need to use more concrete in USA construction. This cardboard just doesn't hold up.

Why do you not use bricks in your walls in US? It looks so fragile
I think there fire alarm needs a new battery.
