- New sounds for a preset synth ??
Breathe new life into your trusty Oberheim OB-SX !! You´ll get 56 brand new synth preset sounds as midi sysex file (for MLAB magic box user) and as EPROM image file replacing the old factory presets.
Honestly, this synth can do more than flutes, trumpets and clarinets. In my opinion it shines with juicy pads, cutting leads, fat unison basses and brassy synth sounds and that is exactly what you´ll get with this sound set.

Disclaimer: 2708 EPROMs are quite rare. Most modern USB eprom programmer can’t burn them. Ask your synth tech beforehand.

Ah, you found it. You don’t need the magic box for this. Just swap one of the EPROMs with mine and you get a collection of classic synth sound

Sounds are wonderful, but I disagree that OBSX is underrated. They're just not very well known and even harder to come by. So hard in fact I'm curious who Synth King will be able to sell these sounds to (no offense). If someone is gear savvy enough to track one down in 2023, I don't think they'll overlook the nifty magic box w/ ipad editor and want to pay for someone else's presets. Making sounds is one of the best parts!
@@seanywarsong for me it was quite clear that there aren’t that much OB-SX out there and that not many people would buy my custom presets. Nevertheless, I had a lot of fun and learnt a lot.

You can get the eprom image file and the sys ex file in the link (see video description). Be aware that only a few eprom burner can handle this type of eprom. In case you've got the "magic box" you can simply send the sys ex file to the interface.
Amazing!! how would you compare the low-end / bass to a minimoog voyager? I know it's way apart, but just been thinking of what to get for the fraction of cost, and features. Really looking for something analog, rare, heavy on low-end, with nifty playable features... this has extra voices so it has me thinking. I'd use either one mostly for drones, cinematic basses, atmospheric things. One-trick stuff. Maybe even a few leads / arp-like stuff very occasionally.
Low end on Moog synths is always earthshaking, not really comparable with Oberheim synth. The OB-SX is quite rare, has 4-6 voices and sounds really great. However, it’s a pure preset synth with only a few parameters to tweak. Rolf Meurer‘s magic box transforms this preset machine into a fully editable synths, absolutely comparable to the big brothers OB-Xa and OB-X. However, it’s not cheap and quite difficult to get.
@@Bernd_Bruening Thanks, and yeah I've just seen your video of the Rolf Meurer's magic box. It definitely turns this synth into a modern working machine. I see it extra useful setting it up in DAW's for midi functions. Truly an awesome implementation. Makes me lean more towards it honestly, as the SX's rarity is something for sure. I've happened to come across one recently for below what you'll normally find elsewhere. Funny to say, even less than the cheapest Voyager available. If I do decide on it (which hopefully if it not gone by so). You'll have another customer looking forward to these awesome presets, in either way!
Do you need a keyboard controller like in your video in order to play the new sound?
@@LYFDDT no, you can use the OB-SX keyboard. At the time, I made the video, I didn’t have the eprom burnt. The sounds were saved in the „magic box“ midi interface and could only be changed via midi Programm change, for which I used the keyboard controller. The download package includes both, the eprom image and the sysex data for the magic box.
