@@JadBourji do it dude! This songs riff is actuallt very good for something to start out with! Not as simple as usual starters but still a really good one to start wiith especially for a rhcp fan! The chorus is good for learning power chords too! I just started imrovising solos (noodling basically lol) to this song today.. You gotta do it man. It's a great feeling.
I know this is an old comment, but pick it up if you haven’t already! It’s never too late. Like the other comment says it’s a very easy melody to pick up on. The rhythm and tempo is a little weird at times, but it’s straight forward once you get it down. I can’t recall any power chords being in the chorus it’s mainly barre chords because John loves those😂😂

all great solos but the very best one in my opinion is the very one on the studio album bssm...i mean its just epic. if I'm not mistaken John was quoted as saying he just went straight into the board with the solos on that album which for that song I imagined was just straight into the Marshall amp No Effects just amazing
you and me sir , you and me! but i gave been watching so many rhcp videos and there you are with me! we love rhcp just the same. i seen your comments for so long, just want to share that with you. you will be seeing me more in the comments section sharing my love with rhcp and fru with you. hope you dont mind haha! keep showing her love man! rhcp is life
+Alexandros Efthimiou there are many more of us deeply appreciating RHCP and Fru lovers out there than you think! also if you havent done so, please check out Purple Stain and Zephyr Song live in Hyde Park, pure magic
what strikes me is that he improvs this so differently without ever having any real fall back licks from the recorded version. In my opinion that recorded version is absolute perfection, his tone on that album does nostalgic nothing else can.
This person who posted this has his head and heart in the right place! Youre not the only one who finds his solos addictive and Couldve Lied is one of the greatest improvs he does. Video gets a thumbs up.
That budokan solo at 6:06 is just so touching and it's a real message from John how he felt at the moment. You can feel the anxiety and then when he turns his back towards the crowd the anxiety disappears partially. You can just feel it in the notes and the tone with that neck pickup and ds2. Beautiful.
Damn, this really shows the progression of John's playing over the years. It's incredible. and i can't believe that girl at the end... she wasn't even looking at him, or giving a shit about the freaking heavenly notes he was playing, by the looks of it. It saddens me that people like that go to chili peppers concerts
Cody Maykrantz the real progression is in the way he was "boxed in" by the band requesting that he more or less stick to proper key and time signature of the song instead of just freewheeling it like crazy in the younger days
He does it with his "double boost". He turns the DS2 on and the Muff at the same time, and sometimes he puts the Wah up, for basses :). Neck pickups, of course.
I’ve had so many damn vivid dreams of me ripping epic guitar solos like John. I knew exactly what I was doing and it felt so real…The feeling I had in those dreams were straight heaven like. Funny thing is I’ve had more dreams of me playing the guitar than I’ve had dreams about me playing the drums, and I’m a drummer. I wish I could express my feelings like John does on a guitar 😢
The original is incredible, but something about his solo's get me in a deeper place, it's more raw sounding to me when he is on stage and in the moment, going where ever he feels, we are just along for the ride.
I still think it should be illegal to play something different from the original guitar solo from this song. That original recording, in my humble opinion, is absolute pure magic.
You can't be serious. My guitar day starts with playin different IcouldHaveLied solos. There's something reeeealy f special with this song. My absolutely most favourite song. Forever lovin John.
Yeah, dude, No,"illegal"? No. Why are you watching this if you don't like the live solos? This is why you go to concerts to begin with is to see how musicians play their stuff live. I don't agree at all with your comment but hey oh, RHCP are awesome anyway.
So much like Jimi Hendrix! He just can't or rather don't wanna play a song/solo the same twice! .. But play in the moment. Incredible guitarists, only a few like that.
that show was in rock wretcher 2002 , search in youtube , you will find the full concert , the quality is not great , but the show is very nice to watch , sorry for bad english , i'm brazilian ;D
LOL I too was just thinking about if I made a compilation of I Could Have Lied solos cuz theyre so incredible and heart felt... and here it is!!! Great fucking vid!!! Super thanks!
@mrmirko101 I tried looking for some of those but I could only see him playing a bit of the song Maybe. He has great feeling in Slane too, check out his scar tissue solo if you havent already.
i think this is one of the few songs of rhcp that the recorded version is almost incompatible but still, this muffed dirty live versions manged to be amazing every time
nefl90 the ds-2 is turned up to max volume, the Marshall is also super loud and he's probably using the neck pickup and that helps for more sustain. 62 fenders are also known for their really nice sustain
there has never been a lp or a tele or a sg or anything else that ever made a sound like that...only a strat can do the job...which is why i dumped my tele's and Sg's and LP's...I am one again.
My girlfriend just left me and I'm dying with these solos. Frusciante you are genius. Thank you
rhcppetar95 me rn
my boyfriend just left me, these solos are saving me 🥺🖤

John makes me want to play guitar more than anything else in the world.

I was 28 when I picked up a guitar for 1st time, this songs solos were top 3 reason why ❤ being able to improv jam to this is worth the initial hassle

I think the 3rd one is stockholm 99 if im not mistaken
3:15 it's Stockholm
If only they played it at slane castle. Just imagine the solo we would gave got with the feel he had going on that night..!
Epic!
They played it the very next night. So close
I could have lied, californication, don't forget me, and Throw away your television seem to bring the best out of John. Beautiful stuff......

My god this is epic. Do not forget Flea's smooth basslines under Johns solo's! Incredible :)
That bunch of notes at 8:36 - 8:38 and the long hold till 9:00 lights my soul on fire and my eyes water .
what strikes me is that he improvs this so differently without ever having any real fall back licks from the recorded version. In my opinion that recorded version is absolute perfection, his tone on that album does nostalgic nothing else can.
weezhum absolutely dude the recorded version is just amazing
pretty sure the recorded one was the first take of that solo when they recorded it wasnt it?
I have a feeling that the recorded version was also improv
This person who posted this has his head and heart in the right place! Youre not the only one who finds his solos addictive and Couldve Lied is one of the greatest improvs he does. Video gets a thumbs up.
Magical sound, cant even explain my feelings. Just close the eyes baby..

i think that when he plays these solos the guitar actually drops a few tears on the stage.
all of those solos are absolutely amazing but somehow both solos on the milan 92 0:14 hits different when you know how john was feeling at that time.
i can tell exactly how he was feeling through the music, without having to know
first solo is the best IMO...so much passion and emotion.
dude..i was jumping around the internet trying to find my favorite...and u put them all here! Thanks.. I love that solo and all its permutations.
THIS IS SO BEATUFUL, MY SOUL IS FLOATING WITH THIS SOUNDS AND VABRATIONS! i love you john, i love this song, i love you chili peppers

A pity that the Hamburg 2003 version wasn't included in this awesome compilation.
DUDE IT'S FUCKING SICK! IVE HEARD THAT ONE TOO!!😳JUST AMAZING TO SEE SOMEONE ELSE SHARES THAT SAME OPINION...
John's improvisations are always great, but yes, the CD version is the best.
For me Budokan 2000 is the brst.
he contant to heaven with his guitar.

08:49 never before has one single note been more beautiful
I dunno 10:20 is sooo smooth and it almost sounds like a volume swell because u can't hear the pick hit string
My fav BSSM song
This solo is literally dizzying - in the best way :) You just have to close your eyes, and feel your head is spinning.
Thanks for this! I reckon this song is where john puts his most soul into, it's incredible.

The 30 second notes are so perfect in this song.
first solo i ever learned
In these solos the John's heart goes out...

It's fucking weird to see a video with a great kind of music with only a few views.
they're all good, but nothing surpass the outro solo in the studio version, so much feeling!
Solo at 6:01 elated me
13:53 dat gurl must be having the best eargasm
8:50 how the hell do you make a note go this long
A lot of gain in your guitar and a good pick up with a lot of sustain, and also an excellent EQ with your distortion, and call it a day.
Loud amp is most important
The second solo in the video is my favorite by far.
13:39 até hoje me irrita a plateia virando a cara com o Deus John frente a frente com eles fazendo um fucking solo >:|
Love Budokan solo 😍😍
6:06-7:38. God exists, and his name is John.

but you should listen to the ones john played in udine 2007,they were so amazing and had so much feeling
3:19 which show???
emotion god
how does he keep up the sound? is it the sustain-effect? like 8:07, 8:49...
nefl90 the ds-2 is turned up to max volume, the Marshall is also super loud and he's probably using the neck pickup and that helps for more sustain. 62 fenders are also known for their really nice sustain
its like you know me like nobody ever could and its my birthday
