Omg I just teared up seeing this again after all these years!!!! As a kid I used to love this ending... sometimes id go round closing all the doors in the house singing this song pretending to be the prison guard lol ... awwwww
I used to watch this as a kid, as well. They seem to have used more than one person doing the rounds in the closing credits, as the series progressed over time. I used to watch with fascination and have seen all of them. Except in Canada, where I'm from, they called the series, "Caged Women." Of all things!
Such a great song. My dad would be working up north and mum, my younger brother (passed away about 20 years ago) and I would watch this show together. Beautiful memories. Take care this Christmas folks and reach out to someone...
This song just came on the radio. A man was singing it. The Something Duo. I was singing along, not thinking. Then I jumped up, "O my gosh, that's Prisoners' theme tune" and I sat there singing and smiling. I told my husband a lady sings this. It's called Prisoner Cell Block H but we always called it Prisoners for short. I told him that Mammy, my sister and I used to watch this late at night. It's an absolutely brilliant series about a prison for ladies. So I Googled theme for pris... and this came up. Lynne Hamilton. As I watched the lady locking the gates I became very emotional. Such wonderful memories of Queen Bea, old Lizzy, young Doreen, Burke, the young Boy George fan, The gentle governor, the two gentle male and female prison officers (I think that they got married or were going to), the horrible Vinegar T..., the kind male doctor and more great characters. We loved Prisoners so much 😭😭😭😭😭😭 💛💙💛💙💛💙 🥰🇯🇲🏴🕊️🔥✝️
I love that this song brought back all the emotions - it does for SO MANY people. I think it's the contrast of the rough, harsh world of the prison and then this beautiful and sad song at the end. Even the idea of the poor guard having to go around by herself, closing up in the dark made me feel sad for her. In Australia, where it originated, this series was simply called "Prisoner" and it was a smash hit from day one. So many of us look back on it now with such fondness, nostalgia and emotion.
I used to watch Prisoner Cell Block H as a child with my mum and every time this was played I’d start to cry and my mum would hug me 😂 think it was because of the woman locking everyone in. Still bring a lump to my throat now. 🙈
This TOTALLY Reminds me of my daughter when she was born in 1993 , as when he was a baby she was a bad sleeper and we would be up still as she would need feeding , and this was broadcast very later in the UK maybe 11pm -12, and we got into watching it , so it reminds me of my daughter as a baby and her mum xx❤❤❤❤
I am covered in Goose Bumps watching this and rather emotional, as my late aunt adored all the Soaps, my sister and I used to regularly hear this whenever aunt was around, Thankyou for this fond memory, I miss her soo much and all her Soaps that she watched, R.I.P aunty. AML. xxxx
We used to watch this every Wednesday night. I was a junior in high school and we all used to tune in to see what Queen B and her gals had cooked up for the “screws”! What a great show, and hearing this song brings back some truly great memories for me. My mum loved this this show-miss her so much.
Gee Grundy's really hit the jackpot with this way back in 1979, 692 episodes later this would have to be their most successful show of all time. Nothing else they made can touch it.
Oh yes i remember and i love that theme song of prisoner cell block h them song and i always used to up very late with my mum and watch it back in the day i miss watching it very much.
Great show with great stories on it I remember watching as a kid with my mother and some times the aunt, great memories from my childhood I am 42 now and my mom has passed nearly 7 years but I will always have these special memories of that time.
If you grew up during the 80s in UK and managed to watch this, then grats, because this was always on very late. Never seen it during prime time. It's like The Equalizer, that was on late and always school in the morning..
When several US TV stations picked up Prisoner Cell Block H in the early 1980s, they'd cut it to half hour segments, not the hour long episode. Kyw TV 3 in Philadelphia did that, aired it at 5 pm each weeknight of all times, canceled it after 13 months. Drew both complaints and positive comments but not good ratings. Actress Betty Bobbitt, who was Judy early on, was from a suburb of Philadelphia, Norristown, actually name dropped in one of the companion mass market paperback tie in novels.
This song always got me when I watched Prisoner as a kid. Now as an adult, with a girlfriend incarcerated, it hits like a ton of bricks. I love you, Ashley.
This song still gets to me now because my dad was in jail all of my life.. I hope your beautiful Ashley is out now and with you, since this was posted 4 years ago, I pray shes home with you and doing well.. They are not nice places to be in, your treated less than a human and the food is almost inedible and the screws treat you like sh*t!! Good luck mate and hi Ashley, I hope you are home feeling much better now.. I know how hard life is, trust me... There's nothing I havent been through, therefore never, ever have I judged another.. God bless you both.. 😘😘😘
@@grace5121 Hi Samantha. When I read your comment I felt very sad. Please take care this Christmas. Where there is life, there is hope Samantha. God bless you dear...
This brings back so many memories. I'm pretty sure most parents today wouldn't let preteen to early teen kids watch such a show. Because it was incredibly raw amd brutally honest That said, I'm ultimately so grateful my parents did let me watch the show, because it was the very first time a young me realised that life could still bite you in the arse, no matter how hard you tried. I don't think there's anything to rival the gravitas of Prisoner, and they might try a dozen reboots. Prisoner was, is, and always will be a beacon for those that seek to create superlative dramas. Nuff said!!!
I used to watch this with my nan as a kid my nan raised me and she used to let me stay up late to watch it with her such fond memories i breakdown each time I hear this beautiful theme as it reminds me of my nan and that time we shared together sadly my nan passed away january 20th 2021 she was all i had in the world but the memories i will never forget she truly was one in a million

Us too lol
What is it about watching this programme with our mums? lol. I did exactly the same. Do you watch Wentworth?

one of the best closing themes ever
I agree for that show in particular
DEFO beautiful song
I cried when I heard this song on the last episode of Wentworth.
I love this theme tune I wish I could go back to them days

This song takes me back almost like nothing else. Early eighties as a kid watching the show. I remember those brown bricks.

I know what you mean - It's just a very sad scene all 'round and the melancholy music makes it even sadder.
Such a sweet story ☺️👌🏼

Gotta be my favourite song, even leaving aside it's association with the brilliant Prisoner: Cell Block H

That is a good tune. It makes me feel like it’s 3am and I’ve got to be up for school in 4 hours.
Watching this on My5 I still love this program even a little bit old lol ❤😂
GRACE BROS Removals & Ansett, love the 80's
R.I.P Ansett And Grundy Organisation
Saw a Grace removal van and was kinda star stucked due to it being featured in Prisoner's end credits.
I actually know two people who worked and are mates with Allan Caswell, not just that, one of the people recorded their own cover of this song.
THE BEST L0VE IT
Used to stay up late with mum and dad watching this. Nearly 40 years ago now
It seems like yesterday. How cruel time is.
me too - my mother loved it. Only seems like yesterday but a life time ago gone in the blink of an eye. (Ireland)

100th comment. Memories are treasured watching this in my school days ......
1:00 to the end best bit of the music
A beautiful theme song 👌 Lynne Hamilton is also a beautiful lady.
Can't believe it's back on from episode 1, Freeview channel 65😊
Travelodge and Grace Bros Removals sponsored everything Australian and soapy in the early 80s. 😜
Lovely
Wrong setting lovely song
Some ITV regions in the UK would cut short the credits so the company sponsors wouldn’t be shown.
Boy what memories, the original track was slow, like this sped up version way more
I know it good times
