It was because Vigathakumaran (1928) movie was a silent film. The government officials argued that how can a silent film be considered a malayalam film. If so then how can it be considered the first malayalam film as all the copies were destroyed and not even a single print was available. That along with certain political interest of the ruling party then stopped JC Daniel was refused the deserved title of father of malayalam cinema. It was a dark history of malayalam cinema.
