Tanzanite: Unique Zoisite Colors by GIA. What color is tanzanite? Typically, tanzanite, the December birthstone, is found in brown, blue, and violet colors. However, in recent years, a transparent, gem-quality green zoisite has been discovered in the Merelani Hills of mineral-rich Tanzania. The gemological properties are identical to those known for blue-violet or green tanzanite. In this video, Menahem Sevdermish discusses the many different tanzanite colors and hues and provides beautiful examples of both blue and green tanzanite gemstones. Also discussed is tanzanite’s most prized color, zoisite, which is a pure blue and similar to fine sapphire. Tanzanite is a pleochroic gem, which means it can show different colors when viewed in different crystal directions. This makes cutting a crucial element in determining the color the consumer sees when the stone is cut and set in jewelry. Understand the different quality factors that determine a tanzanite’s value, with color and cut leading the way.

Hello. What is the meaning of the ‘natural heated’ tanzanite?
Is this considered to be treated or non treated?
    Thank you

    .
does heat treatment decrease the value of the stones?
(I still love the shades of colour though)

This has always been true. These stones are not new. To traditionalists Blue is better. To those that only want natural maybe this company with GIA may start a trend. Back in the 80s you could not give away fancy zoisite.

Very deep dark blue also come in unheated stones ,in fact the deeper they go the more naturally colored tanzanite they find that does not need to be heated , the so called fancy tazanite are not in the same league as the deep blue saturated stones , its not even close ,in fact they suck
