I rode Amtrak from Richmond, VA to Roanoke, VA. We had to ride 2 hours to Alexandria, had a 4 hour layover in Alexandria and then another 4 and a half hour ride to Roanoke. People think I am crazy for doing that. I loved it and I am going to do it again.
We get so much work done that we couldn't do in the car or even on a plane. It really is underrated travel. Alexandria is not a bad place to have a layover. Some good restaurants right there by the station. We rode from Norfolk to Boston and loved it
That ought to be a pretty quick trip. Wish we'd taken the train up more. How long are you going to be in Alexandria? If you're exploring Old Town let us know what you think of our recommendations from our Alexandria video. We might be making a return trip to Alexandria soon, so if our video is helpful it will help us cater the next video.
Wow! Is that your first sponsorship deal? Congrats! Another great video!!! You'll have to do some train travel when you come up to Canada. I live about 10mins from a train station so I can definitely help you out. The Toronto/ Montreal/ Ottawa loop by train would be amazing! If you want to start researching our passenger rail company comparable to Amtrak is called Via Rail.
@@TheDetourDuo have you done a video about how easy it is to bike around Alexandria? Even if you do not have a bike of your own with having Capital Bike Shares here now it makes it very easy if you are visiting.
We didn't this time only because the city wanted us to highlight the free buses. Actually, we've never done bikes. We've always opted for scooters. Got to do that next time

@@TheDetourDuo Being the fact that me and my son both enjoy watching trains we just hung out at the station
Love it! I’ll be taking the northeast regional from Roanoke to DC next weekend to see Lady Gaga.
For real? That's so awesome. Can't even remember the last time I went to a concert
@@TheDetourDuo same, it’s been YEARS haha.
you definitely picked a good one to go to!
How was the trip? Im looking at taking one myself next month and was wondering what to expect.
There’s something magical about traveling by train 🚂
Agreed. Relaxing too. Driving and flying always have an added level of stress.
We are taking our first train ride from Richmond to Alexandria.

Nice. Thanks for that. Definitely want to hit up one of the trains up there too
Can’t wait to see yall
Omg same! Y'all gonna have to show us around
This is a beautiful area!! I've done some train trips here in Ontario, Canada - but never in the US.
We've been slowly planning our way for some Canada traveling. So gorgeous up that way
Good to know, bring your own food when traveling by train.
Yup! That's always our hack. On long trips we always bring snacks!
I live in Alexandria now and I've gotta say it quickly became my favorite city. I also do love taking Amtrak around. Way better than an airplane.
I love Alexandria in the fall. Especially close to Halloween when all the houses on Captain's Row are decorated

Since Amtrak recently added a southbound morning train to Roanoke, we are considering taking an overnight trip.
It's such an easy trip to make too!
@@TheDetourDuo especially since we live within walking distance to the Manassas station.
