    As a Birmingham fan I can proudly tell Simon he's talking absolute nonsense. We were a League 1 team masquerading in the Championship for the last 5 or 6 years, they didn't "turn us" into one. They've made some bold decisions and some haven't paid off, but they're making all the right noises and it's the most positive feelings we've had as fans now since the League Cup final.

      While no club ever wants to go down,there's countless cases over the year's, where a club is threading water for a few year's in a division and eventually go down. And the relegation and the reset is often the best thing that could happen. Clearout of player's, get back to winning games in the lower division which then gets the fans behind you and momentum gets going again

    • @chrisweaver5222
      @chrisweaver5222 3 месяца назад +3

      I agree blues were a league 1 team but there were loads of blues fans last season prattling on about they can't believe they were fighting relegation, they have one of the best squads in the league, they were a very very poor championship team with a very poor squad, poor management and poor ownership decisions

    • @WOOOPdoctorFROGhere
      @WOOOPdoctorFROGhere 3 месяца назад +2

      no chance your squad was not a league 1 level squad and it definitely wasn't in the weakest 3 squads in that league. Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday had smaller squad depth and inferior starting 11s. You were equal to the likes of qpr in terms of quality but whilst those clubs turned their seasons round with astute managerial appointments, Birmingham owners made an absolute hash of it, first appointing a fat lad with weetabix for hair and then a bloke who immediately went off on the sick.
      Simon is right about your owners track record so far. they took a team in the top 6 to relegation. It was a calamitous example of self sabotage. Really odd that you think they should get a free pass for that. Reminds me of when newcastle fans genuinely felt they had a championship level team when they had the likes of Schar, Dubravka, Wilson, Joelinton and Almiron turning out for them

      @@WOOOPdoctorFROGhereI had a season ticket last year, renewed this year. Yes, I agree it was a huge mistake and was not a clever move. However, players in that squad were no where near up to it. Tee that up against the team we have now and its like night and day.
      It’s ok having the players on paper, however having players who will give everything for that badge and are actually aware of the situation they’re in is a different ball game. We had nothing close last year. Fact.

    Getting relegated has allowed us to spend more on players and infrastructure than we could have had we stayed in the championship and that squad was never going to get promoted. If we do get promoted the Club will actually be in a massively better position having taken a season out to launch a serious bid to get to the premier League than the financial rules in the championship would have allowed. The club got some big decisions wrong. We the fans, have moved on from that by all the things that they've done right and this is regardless of our relegation to League One.
    I 100% agree about Garry Cook though as when asked about the idea of Blues playing Wrexham in the USA. He never once mentioned the fans as a reason why it shouldn't happen.
    Cook isn't a man that I have warmed to. A Bluenose that seems to have forgotten his roots. That's the ugly part of the beautiful game.

    As an American, the interesting thing to me is the impact Birmingham and Wrexham are having on American sports fans. The NFL has spent millions trying to generate interest in the UK for their league with only marginal success. But these two teams have so many Americans following them that interest in the US is now spilling over into every level of British football.

    Simon, it's noteworthy that the Blues sold 18 players, which considerably balanced the spending on new acquisitions. It appears you often get just part of the story in your reports. The Blues have been struggling for over a decade and have been mismanaged; they were not expected to be a strong contender in the championship last season. 6th in the league after 5 games. Additionally, it has not been addressed that Birmingham's games are taking place in America.The third-largest revenue generated outside the Premiership. Get the full story before you comment.The academy was never closed by the unscrupulous individuals who once owned it; they ceased investing for financial gain.

    Blues fan here. I know the Americans are in it as a Business Venture, and will make money, but to make that money, they need the club to be competing at the highest level, and they pull no bones that they see Birmingham competing in the champions league, in a new 60,000 seater stadium. Look at Man City 20 years ago, and where they are now, and with Gary Cooke guiding them. I rest my case.

      Do some research, before investment, Man City were a far bigger club, bigger attendances, more trophies, more seasons in the top flight, compared to Birmingham City. Assume you're on the wind up?

    The main slip in form that led to us getting in a relegation battle was Tony Mobray's forced medical leave without a proper number one to replace him. Chris Davies is the real deal though and the players are embracing his philosophy. Blues are definitely looking forward, not backward.

    Whilst on the field performance is undoubtedly the priority, Simon sounds too old school for the business side of modern football. Both sides are inextricably linked .
    The blues messed up last season for sure but no one could have predicted that Tony Mowbray would fall ill at the most important phase of the season. This ultimately meant we didn’t have the ability to rectify the mistake of the Rooney appointment . And you know what… there’s not a single bluenose I know of that resented Tony’s need for time off.

    Mr Jordan there is a documentary on ITV called religated & winning.
    Religation was proberbly the best that could of happened to us. The reasons I say this are a squad of out of contracted player got rid of dead wood under performers who struggled for a decade . Different fairplay rules in league one. We was always going to spend money on players. Plus the owners would have to pay the previous owners millions more if we got promoted with in a time frame which makes those millions dead money wasted money rather spend that money on the team.
    Leeds Ipswich & a lot more clubs see league one as a chance to reset & rebuild. for the future these players we bought are for the future in the championship & we couldn't of done that due to championship fairplay rules.

      Do some research and it shows Sheff Wed have never even averaged 30,000 in living memory and that's even when they were doing well in the Premier league. Leeds and Sunderland have easily the biggest fan bases/ potential of any club that's appeared in league 1. In fact, this century all the big club statistics (like average attendances, league position, cup runs, finances, transfers paid out, transfers received, training facilities etc) prove that Sheff Wed aren't even the biggest club in their own city.

    The reason american owners are coming in for me is because they buy a team that can get into the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB. The teams that are in those leagues cant get relegated or become less relevent thus less profitable. In UK they can buy a team fairly cheaply with a huge upside of getting in Prem. American owners are not doing it for the fans its a business....Nothing wrong with that but its business.

  • @ashleypreece9274

    Simon clearly jealous because he could never even fathom running a club this way.
    As a blues fan we have suffered long and hard for many years, we were not moving anywhere other than on the list of forgotten clubs under the last ownership.
    Yes we are in league 1 but we have investment for the first time in many years, serious investment in the infrastructure of the club and on the pitch. Simon will eat his words in a few years. KRO 🔵
