Lyrics:
I tried to tell you
I didn't know how to stay
You believed she can see through
Cutting at the silent clay
A relief back in deep blue
Fettered in the minded sun
Eat the gun as it feeds you
Spitting up the oxygen
Once again
Once again empty horses
Gallop through the violet door
Follow their crooked courses
Shadows in the moonlit moor
Oh my stars winged creatures
Galloping in silken height
Like the last human teachers
Machinery of constant sight
Once again we must bleed new
Even as the hours shake
Crystal blood like a dream true
A ripple in the wounded wake
Can't believe, I believed too
That you are the river of light
Who I love that I cling to
In the belly of the empty night
From the 31st floor of the simulation swarm
With the drone of fluorescence flicker fever filled with form
And the warm gush and I wanna touch like we never could before
I'd fly to you tomorrow I'm not fighting in this war
I wanna drop my arms and take your arms and walk you to the shore
I remember
Building an energy shield
In your room, like a temple
Swallowed in the windless field
Very thin, with your mother
Tall as a pale green tree
Very wild, right as winter
Rising with the prison key
Any child to deliver
Tangled in the blood and vine
As the first little angel
Taken from the northern pine
You believe, I believe too
That you are the river of light
Who I love that I sing to
In the belly of the empty night
From the 31st floor of the simulation swarm
With the drone of fluorescence flicker fever filled with form
And the warm gush and I wanna touch like we never could before
I'd fly to you tomorrow I'm not fighting in this war
I wanna drop my arms and take your arms and walk you to the shore
I'd fly to you tomorrow I'm not fighting in this war
I wanna drop my arms and take your arms and walk you to the shore
Little Andy
soft in his newborn skin
Only one little Andy
Will he return again?
I believe we will renew
Because there is no other
Once again fall asleep with
Our backs against each other
I believe and you believe too
that you are the river of light
Who I love that I sing to
In the belly of the empty night
From the 31st floor of the simulation swarm
With the drone fluorescence flicker fever filled with form
And the warm gush and I wanna touch like we never could before
I'd fly to you tomorrow I'm not fighting in this war
I wanna drop my arms and take your arms and walk you to the shore
I wanna drop my arms and take your arms and walk you to the shore

Y’all don’t understand how hard this guitar is
😭been trying to learn it for like 2 weeks with minimal progress, this is the final boss of acoustic guitar playing
And she's singing too
@@heddaaxelsson3151try some elliot smith 😂
@shittybuttrue2819like any leo kottke is like arguably harder than this but even basic finger picking and to that extent, Travis picking, is like crazy hard to do fluently in it of itself. Singing and finger picking like that at the same time tho is like crazy to me still
Also like Nick Drake is the final boss of acoustic guitar imo. Him or Don Ross. They're just from another plane of existence.
I think we are witnessing the greatest songwriter of this generation. Adrienne is unmatched. Brilliant and beautiful. Thank you Adrienne, It helped me today.
Agree
Sufjan
Please respect the greatest songwriter, first by spelling her name correctly
uh... i mean there's alot of greats of this generation, depending on the genre, but yes adrianne lenker is an absolute jewel.
She's not close to the best. But she doesn't need to be. She's amazing and she's doing her own thing
I like what they did with the studio version but the intensity of this is unmatched.
they cut out the best lines
💯% this 👆🏻
@@billycroft9502 machinery of constant sight!!!!
@@billycroft9502 hi billy lmao
@@clara_mars hi clara :)
The breakdown after the final chorus is absolutely incredible. It’s so melodic, and the way she uses harmonics is amazing.
I had high expectations since I know she's a phenomenal guitar player but I was still blown away
The chord changes at the end are extremely satisfying against the repetition and droning . Glad I stumbled upon this on 89.7 and decided to look it up.
had this shit stuck in my head for a minute but couldnt place it. thought it was the driving melody of a song but after i found it realized its just this sick ass breakdown. crazy doing so much with so little
Agree
Michael Hedges (one of her influences)
I assumed that that guitar break was Buck because it sounded so much like his style. Hearing her play it solo highlights what a great guitarist she is.
This has to be one of the most fun songs I have ever learned on guitar. Finally after 15-30 minutes a day for the last five days I am totally in the groove and ready to share this one at my local open mic night! Magic stuff, thanks Adrianne!
Is there a tab?
Is it in Standart tuning +
@@locolorenz It's in open C. There are tabs online, yes.
@@locolorenz I think it is open c#
"Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire." Rock on.
Total magic. One of the best songs I've ever heard.
absolute dinger here!
out of body experience. I cant believe what i ve just heard and saw, astonishing performance. Mind. Blown.
Adrienne Lenker has got to be the best songwriter of this generation. All of her music is the most beautiful poetry and she's talented and skilled. Its insane
Her lyrics are pure poetry
I wonder if she will ever realise the effect this song has on me. truly unmatched.
This song is too good to be true.
That's a lot of lyrics to recall.
This is one of the most important videos on RUclips
adrianne is just... different gravy
Wow, how did she get to put all this words together., creating a beautiful song!!...
this song is altering my brain chemistry
I come back to it every few weeks
Saw this live at Adrianne's solo show in LA last Saturday. It blew me away! So beautiful and powerful. The imagery is so vivid.
Adrianne is truly the best of us.
so true
this song (and the whole album) is giving me so much comfort during these crazy times. thank goodness for Adrianne. thank goodness for Big Thief. *crying*
This is my favourite song.. I wish there was a studio version, holding my hope up to hear one in the future
i think it was originally removed cause its planned to be on an upcoming release. But idk for sure
@@surajdave I hope you are right! Every time I play this song I repeat it a few times. I even like that the singing is a little off in the beginning haha
I love the rhythm of the singing. The guitar makes me want to dance and the lyrics are awesome.
Not sure if you saw it, but the band posted a video of them rehearsing or recording a full-band arrangement of the song, so I'd be surprised if it doesn't make it on an upcoming Big Thief album.
Would love to see that, @@danielcowman9540. Where was it posted?
And now they played it at P4K Fest. It sounded absolute killer as well.
Really excited for a new BT release. The closer Dragon (also a Adrianne Solo before) was breathtaking.
holy shit she was hitting those harmonics like tim henson. when she started headbanging you can feel the pure essence of emotion that the song is built upon and it's so beautiful
The war in my head that I’m still fighting in, this song takes that trauma out. ❤😢
Lyric rich, poetic and swimmingly sublime. Lenker is truly our 21st century muse.
wtf! I thought it was simply impossible to reproduce this fantastic song with only one guitar. astonishing and beautiful 🥰❤️
what a beautiful soul
I'm so in awe, this woman is brilliant.
WOW !!!
Adrianne is at another level.
She's not about to crack orbit ... she already has !!
She is absolutely one of my most favorite artists today, along with her entire band.
So that's how you play it huh. I'ma have to watch this a few hundred times. Hell I was going to anyway. Nice touch!
Returning to this video every once and a while provides me with a comfort and warmth only the best music can. I love this song and all of Adrianne’s work so much
Gorgeous storytelling. Magic spiraling vocals and the guitar sequence is seductive .
And Beguiling.
im crying and my tears are getting stuck to my fake eyelashes and i cant get them out and its pisising me off. I love this song
Adrienne is one hell of a guitarist!
I love the band's version... but i really want her to officially release this like this. Hopefully on her next solo album
This is pure genius, emotional genius.
adrianne is a genius
I had a theory that Isaac Brock must’ve been playing the solo on the studio version of this song. But now that I’ve seen this… Simply stunning and beautiful.
100% I heard that influence so strong!!!
Yeah my favorite thing about the album was how much I thought it sounded like Modest Mouse or Summerteeth era Wilco. Definitely would’ve listened to this band all the time if they were around when I was in high school
Check out the Mimicking Birds album Eons, specifically Acting Your Age
Adrienne is operating on a whole other level.
She opened her show in Oakland last night with this song: brilliant!
This is so beautiful I want to cry
What a song. 10/10 on every level. Would love to hear Thom Yorke cover this too
She was talking about those alternate tunings in another video -- you can really see how that works here.
The full band version is great, but I always find myself drawn to these solo performances of the songs over the Big Thief studio recordings.
I can’t stop watching and listening, such a magical recording
Adrianne and her band mates are some of the most talented musicians alive. I am blown away
every time i’m sad, can’t sleep, angry, or whatever i come back to this video. Adrianne is such a beautiful person, and an incredible artist, i aspire to be even half as good as her someday ❤️
There is crack in this song
Tbh I kinda hope if she does another solo album that she can put this version on it (like how big thief took From and made it not acoustic idk😭), love the Big Thief version though!💖
Only thing I really miss from the studio version is the bass line. It is fantastic
This song live in Lawrence was maybe the best live songs I’ve heard.
A special performance of a great song. Adrienne started learning to fingerpick and stuck with it. A lesson for anybody thinking about trying it.
I'm a drummer but if I learned to play guitar I would absolutely do it this way.
This absolutely has to be released, hope it's not too different from the demo.
I like the album version just fine. But this... well, this is something special.
one of the best tracks i’ve ever heard
I keep seeing this every day
Songwriting genius.
devotion, what devotion, she must have gone with it not stopping and bettering it until until yea its so poetically beautiful
She’s too good.
Brilliant in all ways possible.
Adrianne, I believe you are the river of light
Okay guitar SHMOOOOVES!! & very moving songwriting as well
The studio version is gorgeous but I love the traditional feel of this rendition…we are so blessed by her talent
INCREDIBLE for a demo ver !!!
The little solo in this song is insane. Trying to learn it right now
2:25 intense
Oh God, brilliant. She's brilliant.
i love this song more than anything
Brilliant guitar. And vocals.
Love her voice!!
Que energía, que voz, qué guitarra. Simplemente hermosa
forever the best version of this song
What an absolutely remarkable talent.
my favourite song
this just revived my inspiration as a musician i cant describe it but yes nice
I love Adrienne lenker
I cry to this btw😊
God damn unbelievable
How do you even begin to write music like this
This is metamodern. I believe. 🌠
Brilliance ❤
***headbangin**. :) :) :)
Unbelievable talent
New to you guys… and love it.
absolutely mental, dafuc
Studio is great, but this kicks its ass by a mile, right?
she literally eats every song
Wiki: "She attended the Berklee College of Music on a scholarship provided by Susan Tedeschi of the Tedeschi Trucks Band."
OK well THAT f_ckin explains it!!
so perfect .
No words 😭
Più bella e brava che mai !!!! Applausiiiiiiiiii
WHAT U KNOW ABOUT SIMULATION SWARM THIS SONG IS EVERYTHING TO ME
Genius
I just found my favorite guitar player. Better than Hendrix, this is mind blowing.
Holy shit this is amazing
Thanks Suraj xoxo
Great song
Holy shit that was beautiful
we need to studio version my GOD!
Ecxellent! TY, спасибо)
This is what the music in heaven would sound like
