Here is a little reading vlog full of small things that bring me huge amounts of joy! The holiday season is my favorite time of year, so I hope you enjoy this silly compilation of tree decorating, showing you some of my favorite ornaments, the books I'm currently reading, and a little illustration chat!

I just loved this so much! Your enthusiasm and passion for reading is contagious. I really hope you enjoy His Dark Materials - one of my all-time favourites and I think each book just gets better than the one before. Pullman's imagination is magnificent and he explores so many fascinating topics like the meaning of consciousness, dialogue between the soul & body, difference between religion itself and religious institutions... The more I read the more I see how much Pullman's doing here (loads of inspo from Paradise Lost, for example). Interestingly I remember reading an article Pullman wrote (a long time ago) where he talked about how much it annoyed him that his books were placed in an age-bracket section of a shop because he always wrote for everyone, never just for children 💛
My lil’ shih tzu pup (well, she’s not a pup anymore, but she’s still my baby) is named after Lara from ‘Dr. Zhivago’. 😊 (I just thought sharing that piece of info was fitting for this video, what with all the lovely dog and Pasternak content!)
Aw our first dog was a shih tzu named Mia! Willow and I send our love to you and Lara! I love that you gave her a literary name, especially from a Russian classic! :)

Carolyn, you went from lawn mowers and all sorts of 'lawn' sounds in the spring/summer/fall by your neighbors to now renovation sounds in the winter. Fun times! LOL! Also, I first read His Dark Materials in my late 30's and LOVED them. I think you will, too.

I recently watched the "Boy Called Christmas" movie (haven't read the book yet) and have to say that it managed to melt the stony heart of this embittered old cynic. Perhaps there is hope for me yet!

The His Dark Materials series is so good! I've read it all the way through twice and now the author has started to release more books in the series (a prequel and a sequel so far). Hope you enjoy it!
It is! Oh wow that's wonderful, and yes I've seen the prequel and sequel in bookshops! It's amazing that Phillip Pullman is giving his readers more stories! :)

Have you ever read The Arrival by Shaun Tan? It's a wordless graphic novel, the entire story is told through pictures. I think you'd like it!
I haven't read/looked at The Arrival in it's entirety, but we did study parts of it in art school! I've been meaning to get my hands on a copy for a while! I'll have to do that soon. Shaun Tan is such an incredible illustrator! I'm sure I'll love the whole thing too! Thank you for the wonderful recommendation :)
