Dio was the finest hard rock/metal singer of all time, IMO. Find the studio versions of Rainbow in the Dark, Shame on the Night, or Don't Talk to Strangers.
Bit of background: Ronnie James Dio is one of the all-time metal greats and one of the top metal vocalists and frontmen ever. Top five easily. There is hardly a metal singer who hasn't been influenced by him. He passed away from stomach cancer in 2010 at the age of 67. Amongst other bands, he fronted Rainbow (Ritchie Blackmore's band), Black Sabbath, his own band Dio and the Black Sabbath reincarnation Heaven and Hell. His career spanned more than 50 years. He started out as a doo-wop singer in highschool and college bands in the late 1950s and early 60s. Apart from that and metal he also sang rock'n'roll, rockabilly, blues-rock, ballads, even broadway style songs ... you name it, he did it. He really started to come into his own with Rainbow in the mid 70s, and then fully from 1980 onward with Sabbath where he replaced Ozzy Osbourne. His live shows were magic. During the pandemic/lockdowns, I've been revisiting his catalog from the beginnings, and watching and hearing him change and develop from the late 50s until his last shows in 2009 is a real treat. About 240 y/o the four of them combined. They still wiped the floor with 95 percent of the bands half their age. lots of good dio songs but sorry this is metal defining, this performance blows away "man on the silver mountain"...vivian campbell and vinnie appice are killing it, this is on another level.
Fun Fact : Ronnie James Padavona (Dio) was offered a full ride scholarship to Juliarrd . The most prestigious music college in the world . But not for vocal, but for Trumpet .
Hahaha I was at this concert... as in literally this date this place. Let me tell you being there was WAY better and actually extremely great mix live as well as crazy loud (back in the 80's concerts would cause ear ring for like three days after... this particular concert based on being on the floor and to the left any hit on the kick or floor tom or bass would move your frigging clothes) Dio (and many many others in the 80's were frigging epic)
