No autotune, no electronic filtering, just pure talent. Linda sang folk, country, rock, big band, jazz, Mariachi and opera. She performed in all these genres at a top level.
Just a microphone, amplifier and speaker. She looks like she just got off the couch in her blue jeans, put a flower in her hair and belted this one out. Pure talent and training.
The instrument is a steel guitar. Epic voice. This might be her best. I can't believe you're just getting to this. Her catalog is a gold mine. She could sing any genre with power and range. Love that high note at the end.
Music back then was never only about the vocals or the lyrics, but the _pure sound_ they created together -- harmony and chemistry brought together --- a long lost art
My mom is a singer and her favorite artist is Linda. I grew up listening to Linda for hours everyday as my mom practiced. Through my mom I learned pretty much everything she ever recorded. Linda could sing anything. She has perfect pitch, control and sustain.
The lovely Linda no one can touch her, she was one of the top female artists of the 70's and 80's, she did this live, no auto tune artists don't perform like this anymore. She was a pure musical genius who explored multiple musical genres including Mexican mariachi an album honoring her heritage. Canciones De Mi Padre (Songs of my father) was released in late 1987 and immediately became a global smash hit. At 2½ million US sales, it stands as the biggest selling non-English language album in American record history. She was a smashing success and is a phenomenal talent!
She had one of the most powerful and versatile voices out there. And it has to be said that she probably helped quite a few young guys through puberty back in the day. She also kick started quite a few other artists who played behind here at various times, including Glenn Fry and Don Henley of the Eagles. She was very generous to them and happily helped them move forward to do their own thing. At that time, when she was starting out, there was a strong country-rock thing going on, which the early Eagles were very much part of as well. The auto-lyric translation is pretty out there.
YES! Linda was legendary in our house when i was growing up. She can do it all. My mom also gave me Linda's CDs of Mariachi music and it is absolutely amazing. I wish I could find good clear videos of the songs on youtube. Also, that instrument is a Lap Steel Guitar. Very common in classic country music. Great reaction.
In the top ten no doubt. She could stand toe-to-toe with Barbara Streisand and Karen Carpenter. She could sing any genre. Power, range, soft and hard, all with great control.
Linda is a master interpreter of song, knows when to hold back and when to cut loose, unlike many of today's show offs. She's of German and Hispanic heritage, and has covered all styles of music, not just rock and pop, and country. Mexican Mariachi, Big Band and Light Opera. Steel Guitar, yes it slides...You are so correct on the singing, they have to express the emotional content of the lyrics and song, not just show off. It's about the song, not the singer. Linda was master at that, a trained vocalist. she was also a pioneer in being a woman assertive enough against record producers and companies to do more than just take orders and sing to make them money...she demanded to do other kinds of music, they lost every fight with her and made tons of money anyway [dummies!] and she won 11 GRAMMYs and received 27 nominations. In 2011 and 2016, respectively, she received a Latin GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award and a GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award. in other words, she kicked their ass, lol.
@@TannerHemmingsen yep they were her band for a tour, they grooved good n decided for a band, the mega hit machine THE EAGLES became way bigger the linda lol
Glenn Frye and Don Henley asked her for permission to leave and form The Eagles. I forget his name but Linda recommended a guitarist to them. I found this out during their History of the Eagles concert tour.
@@donaldbrunner6250 back then a singer like kinda would just hold auditions and fill each spot just for the tour, nice way to pad a resume back then, no personal grudges she said many times she loved the eagles, they both go down in history books as LEGENDS!!!!
Blue Bayou is the first English song I listened to when I was a young child. She is also the first female singer I remember hearing. The single also has Spanish version of the song which is also great. Linda later released full Spanish albums. She started her music career in the late sixties as member of The Stone Poneys. Different Drum is their biggest hit and a classic song. I suggest you react to "La Charreada" with mariachi in Spanish. Great vocal performance by Linda.
We saw her niece in a tribute concert to Linda in Tucson about 2 years ago. She did very well in capturing Linda´s tonal range and imitated her close to perfection.
Have to say, as a guy, your smile and beauty are absolutely captivating. As an older guy with a lifetime behind him, I love the authenticity of your reactions. 😊😊
Linda Ronstadt is one of the very best vocalists of my generation. She could literally perform incredibly well in any genre. As others point out here, no autotune, no filters, just pure talent. Great sensitivity to everything she sings/performs. Also a beautiful, strong woman. I'm using present tense intentionally, because she's still very much with us.
In the SUMMER of 1977 I Followed Linda Ronstadt 5 New ENGLAND STATES in the USA. I saw a Linda 6 x that SUMMER With friends by myself or I made friends at summer... Keep up the great ❤❤😊
This song is one of the most loved songs of my life. From my childhood, remembering my mom singing it along with Roy Orbison on the AM radio, to this version from Linda Ronstadt from my early teens, all the way up to a decade or so ago when Norrah Jones put her own unique style to her own rendition. All three masterpieces.
As a song, Long Long Time smokes Blue Bayou, its not even close. Dont wait very long to react to Long Long Time it's a fantastic song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was at this show in the Fox Theater in Atlanta. She put on an incredible show and I was smitten. "That'll be the Day" from this show is a good one for you to hear.
i really like watching this girl, besides her beauty and great accent she really appreciates the music she hearing, loves her oldies and classic rock!!! GO MISSCUTE!!!(yea i know i typed it wrong on porpous)
The instrument you were talking about is a "pedal steel guitar". It is played with a solid metal slide, held in the palm of one hand and finger picks on the other hand. There are knee and foot pedals to change the type of chord. When someone refers to "slide guitar", it is usually a regular guitar and the player puts a glass or metal tube (slide) over their finger and, with their other hand, either plays with a pick or their fingers.
Hi Bisscute, delighted that you decided to react to the great Linda Ronstadt, called the queen of rock. A super interesting woman and singer, she was born in Tucson, Arizona, into a family with deep Mexican roots on her father's side, and German and English from her mother. Ranchera music (a musical genre from Mexico), folk, jazz, and rock 'n' roll combined to form their musical identity. I understand that Blue Bayou was written by Roy Orbison and Joe Melson, but it was she who made it most famous on a 1977 album. Blue Bayou generates a strong sense of nostalgia and longing, which makes you dream of returning to a place of peace and happiness, called "Blue Bayou", which represents a refuge where life is simpler and calmer, nostalgia that is accentuated with that mix of country, pop and soft rock music, all crowned with the masterful interpretation of LInda, with her powerful and emotional voice and your ability to hold long, clear notes. I suggest for a next reaction Linda Ronstadt, performing live the Spanish theme from La Cigarra with mariachi music. It's going to surprise you. Greetings and a hug from Mexico City.
This is a song written & originally recorded by the great Roy Orbison in the 1960's. His version is really great as well. You should check Roy out sometime...a very unique artist and a one of a kind songwriter. He was Elvis Presley's favorite artist/singer. The instrument that you like is the steel guitar which is an instrument mainly used in the country & country swing genres. That said, anyone who knows a thing about singing knows that Linda is one of the greatest female singers of all time. Right up there with Aretha Franklin, Patsy Cline and a few others. I saw her a number of times in the 1970's in particular including very early on at the world famous Palomino Club in the LA area in the early 1970's before she hit it really big. That was a tiny club and she blew the roof off. The entire audience was stunned and astonished the first time that I saw her there. She was incredible. The only reason that I got in there even though I was only 16 was because my band sometimes played there. Linda is easily one of the top 5 female singers of all time.
Another FUN reaction...I liked when the "slide guitar" started and how you light up! I think the first song I remember hearing by her is "You're No Good" (please react to) in the early 70's. It was a hit, she's a powerhouse for sure.
Yes ‘tis Linda alright! One of my favorite songs from her is “Desperado”. The instrument you like is called Dubro. I love your reaction! You’re beautiful!
I was in college in the 70s. You couldn't walk into a bar without hearing "You're No Good" blaring from the sound system (jukebox). I also loved her collaborations. She and Aaron Neville had a hit with "Don't Know Much." But her best collaboration was her singing with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris in Trio. So sad that she has lost her voice.
I love your hula dance, considering it's a bayou song; vastly different parts of the US. But it's great to see you enjoying the song so much. Fun fact; it was announced recently that they are considering a biopic of Linda with Selena Gomez as the lead. Should be interesting.
I totally agree, vocal quality and technically proficient singing is great and beautiful, but passion and connection with what they are singing I think is far more important to making a truly beautiful and moving performance.
She paid tribute to her father with an album named "canciones de mi padre" mexican songs in spanish so beautifuled singed that is very worthy to listen. And as i said before... i love your channel!!!!!!!
Linda is/was a good singer. She used to date the governor of California. Yes my dear it is a slide steel guitar. Good job, you're learning. Another BIG song for Linda was --- "You're No Good." When you listen to it count how many times she says -- You're No Good. Hope you enjoy it!!
Imagine how challenging the pedal steel guitar is to play - both hands, both feet + both knees working 2 levers each. Eight parts all have to coordinated simultaneously to get the right sound. Huge respect to anyone who masters that !
Junior Brown "Highway Patrol" has Junior playing his "gitsteel" as a slide and standard guitar, quite catchy song as well. Biss will appreciate that one!
Someone else said she played with The Eagles. Actually, when they were starting out, Don Henley and Glen Frey were in her touring band, and then she helped them get The Eagles started. There's lots of other good stuff of hers, and she did write some of her own songs, but I don't think she really thought of herself as a songwriter, or that she felt like it was her thing as much as she just loved to sing, so most of her well known songs are covers, or sometimes songs her friends would write for her. There are also a couple good videos out there of her singing Mariachi that are pretty amazing! This song, I believe was originally a Roy Orbison song, and I think Elvis also covered it. I've mentioned Roy Orbison before. He was early rock n roll, has one of the most unique voices, and is a pretty iconic American singer. Just before his death, he was also in a super group that I've mentioned before called The Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison of The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne from ELO. You should check it out.
Thank you for pointing out she didn't "sing with the Eagles." She helped her backing band players form and then supported them in starting the Eagles who went on to "some fame," but then became the scourge of reaction channels all over YT for banning and striking songs for dubious copyright claims.
Sharing with my friend Paul who you need to watch in the film American Graffiti 'cause he was smitten with her and named one of his novels after one of her songs. Greeeeeaaaaaat reaction!!!
