  • "About two thirds of new audits have been targeting people who make less than $200,000 a year and 80% have been targeting people who make less than $1 million a year. Now, if you make $200,000, or you make $900,000 a year, you are not exactly poor. But this is not the 'we're only going to target the super rich' argument that the Biden administration consistently made," says Peter Suderman.

    The IRS doesn't need all those armed agents to go after billionaires, they need them to intimidate the little people.

      Most of the middle class lives in a house of cards because the banks tricked them into the idea that it is perfectly fine to live in perpetual debt. All they own, they are still paying on, paying and paying and paying and they must get up and go to work to keep those payments going. They are still slaves. Most of America is subconsciously okay with being a slave, as long as one is comfortable.

    The sort of $200k/year person who will get audited is not the person making $200k to sit at a desk at Google. His taxes are simple. No, they're hitting the person whose $200k/year tax return is 100 pages long because he's an entrepreneur with complex income.
    In short, they're targeting people who likely lean right and avoiding people who likely lean left.

The companies involved are happy to pay pennies on the dollar to buy politicians to keep the grift and profit trains rolling.

      Just like if the police act like a bunch of thugs and trample people's rights, people condemn those cops, but don't acknowledge that the cops are getting away with it because congress won't change the laws and hold them accountable. I agree that people need to realize most problems are trickling down from a corrupt source. ...however, we then must also acknowledge that the "Source" of these problems isn't going to fix itself. If we want change, we need to step up. It's not something that's going to be solved at a ballot box either.

    Why do you have to fill out 1040 if your company sends W2? Crazy.

    • @themonkeypuppet77
      @themonkeypuppet77 2 месяца назад

      Easy. The W2 is a reporting instrument where U.S. companies can report to the IRS that they have paid out money to a foreign person in their employ. The 1040 series forms are for those foreign persons or their agents to calculate the actual liability based on statutory and regulatory deductions. Same goes for the 1099… a reporting instrument for a U.S. entity to inform the IRS that they have paid money to another intermediary destined for a foreign person.
      If you try to make sense of Title 26 and parallel regulations in the context of a U.S. citizen living and working within the U.S. earning domestic remuneration, it seems convoluted. If you read Title 26 and regulations in the context of income, a gain derived from capital, from property or both, paid to a foreign person, it makes so much more sense.

This year, my refund got held up for 3 weeks for additional review. Super annoying. Thankfully it ultimately wasn't a big deal for me, but it's rage-inducing when the IRS will take your money literally the next morning if you owe, but I had to wait over a month to get back my money.

      A genuine flat tax would need to be at least 22% and get rid of most write offs to break even on deficit. To keep the current deductions systems in place, it would be closer to 26%.
      Republicans could own all 3 houses and cut all the small programs they want, and would never get remotely close to balancing the budget on a 10% flat tax. The only way they could possibly get there is with heavy cuts to Military/Social Security/Medicaid which happens to be the 3 cuts that would ensure they never win another election again.
      So yeah, your proposal does sound a bit crazy and would be a detriment to the overwhelming majority of voters.
