I think it's because, while the middle schooler's reactions and behavior are by all means over-the-top, sometimes his parents are being really strict about things for very little reason. For example, the parents saying he can't wear regular clothes to church, them ordering him to read a book instead of read on his tablet (which really takes away from the enjoyment of reading), and... you know, the dad's whole domestic abuse schtick.
My kids were both pretty obnoxious at this age, but they grew up to be the most amazing, kindest, reasonable young adults. It was so worth it and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. ❤
Well, it’s a bit different with the girls, and it also depends on what kind of kid you are and what kind of parents you have, but in general, yes, it is sadly true.
