Great fun!! Definitely on the must have list! Onward!
Hi Lou, fantastic work, as always! I am so relieved you were getting 80s vibes from the glass plate for the throne. When you were showing off the kit before starting the paint work, it was giving me vibes from the Nickelodeon game show, Double Dare (not to be confused with the older game show of the same name with Alex Trebek as the host), where Marc Summers' podium was in front of one of those glass walls with colored lighting behind him! So the rest of the video as you were painting, all I could think of was a game show streamed across the galaxy called, "Mutant Menace"!
That would even be a killer kit w/o the female figure...Super cool!
Very cool build
Great review Lou! Thanks for the kind words.
@@CWootenSculpts i just call them like I see them
😎very nice work 👍.
That does look to be one massive chunk of Resin Lou! I concur with Your choice of color palette as well! Those colors really flow between the two figures! Very nice indeed! You where correct in differentiating the colors of the waist belt and upper body. Very good call Sir. Uhm, well, I am not sure about the eyes though, maybe once it dries darker? I was leaning towards some color shift? Kind of like a Blow Fly color, You know what I mean? The lights on the base are just what the Mutant ordered for sure!! Looks terrific so far Lou!! Totally Awesome Dude!! I can't wait to see how the Young Lady does then! Well, Take Care, Be Safe, God Bless, Later
What a fun kit. Reminds me of those classic sci-fi horror films. God, I miss those. Science fiction theater. I wish I could find those on Disc to watch again. Loved this, Lou. Thanks.
I am lucky enough in WNC to have a place that Specializes in that sort of thing, on physical media… - a locally-owned small business!
Orbit DVD in West Asheville. They could ship, I would think…
Love these new 1950 kits of the past! Looks like a poster that came to life as a sculpture.
I always thought that this monster was from “This island Earth. Might research it a bit more.
@@billgalloway1799 yes it is.
This is beautiful piece Lou!
Awesome figures and build, Lou! I also got your Space Station masks and started applying to the ring, great time and work saver!
Once again, a winner. Your best work is figure painting, the mutant looks great. Can't wait to see the completed face on the girl figure. The pedestal or "throne" looks like the platform the Monitor sits on, when they get to Metaluna. Great movie love the beginning when they assemble the Interociter. I Wish I knew someone shaped like that (the girl figure, not the Mutant). As always great work, and marvel at your steady hand. Be good now!
Always loved that movie! The girl is a nice addition!
Wow this is a truly great model. I loved the Super7 mutant they made.
I do believe we are in the Golden Age of model-making right now!
Awesome job so far. Did you know the Star Wars cantina band members are shirt tail long distance cousins twice removed, lol. Can't wait til it's completed. Build on Brother....😎
Love it!
It's the Metaluna Mutant from This Island Earth cool film.
Someone else got the reference at the end 😁
Nice that he’s a modest mutant, given that he’s wearing pants and all. And he turned out great. That looks like a cool kit.
How does he put on his pants with those claws?
Very carefully lol
well not bad stuff be fun to do it with bit 3D printing tht 4ok the two as a geanster and sisters of battle but thats me but will see what does and yes lou shud do some own cooking but agen thts me to nest vid
Nice work! I read the novel a few years ago. The movie only covers about half of the story.
This Island Earth is one of my favourite films, shame that the damsel in distress isn't Faith Domergue, but I imagine that could be to do with likeness rights, although the included figure does look like it came from the '50s, can't wait to see the finished product, looking very good so far!
C'mon, who would you rather paint? Barbarella or your 5th grade English teacher?
@@aztekdummy The model DOES look like my 5th grade English teacher!
First is that the work and design is really tippy top notch. Then, since this is old hat for you, considering that first one already done, you've done well in re-evaluating your prior choices. I think you might try for a peg in one leg of the beastie-- those ankles look rather thin. But I think a little help would be good.
The only major mistake you've made is using the modern, colloquial pronunciation of "mutant." As good Exeter would say it, Mew*'Thant (distant relative of U Thant, Director of the United Nations in the 60s.) emphasis on the second syllable for extra chuckles. Where on Earth did Mr. Reason grow up?
Glass block needs grout, true enough. But then it's alien space grout, of course. That, then would suggest that the girl needs a Googie print on her vest. Jus' sayin'!
Great work, done under pressure (both from the Black Widow and a thunderstorm) and that base/throne is a worthy spot to struggle around.
When she fell over the gun barrel broke off
You weren't supposed to see that. I've replaced it.
I've watched a ton of these uploads and still dont know what the heck is being said in the opening. Noting the harem pants on the alien and his hooks, you wonder how he got them on and off..
do you mean "it looks like i picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue" ?
@@aztekdummy Barely. Maybe with six Oreo's in your mouth.
@@sclogse1 it's Lloyd Bridges from "Airplane". You don't mess with the classics.
@@aztekdummykids today don't appreciate classic movie references, 🙄
Hi Lou, did you get the lighting kit from Dave as well or did you just wire it up yourself. I am ordering the kit, however I'm interested in that color shifting bulb.
this is my own lighting set up. you can get color changing leds on Amazon

@@aztekdummy Thanks for taking the time in sending the link.
So you didn't need any Miami Advice?
It's a cool kit, but I don't get the decision to replace Dr. Ruth Adams. That scene where she's menaced by the mutant as her conversion tube is opening was just one of the scenes in This Island Earth that influenced Ridley Scott when he was making Alien.
Ooh, I love the effect on the mutant's eyeballs!
I agree, as nice as this female figure is. I'd love to see a series of "Aurora Monsters of the Movies" scale plastic kits with the monster / heroine combos from famous sc-fi films - as you say Mutant / Adams and Gort / Benson etc.
Great kit but very large - Aurora Monsters of the Movies scale would be better.....
get behind me, Satan! the bigger the better!
@@aztekdummy Look forward to the recast of the full size POTA Lawgiver soon....
@@jeffholt9437 you know where I can get one?
@@aztekdummy ♥
My humble question is, why not make the female figure like the gal in the film?
because spandex space suits are more fun than drab pantsuits?
Commented on elsewhere but this female figure would go better with an original mutant....
