      I just started 3 weeks ago by buying the PO12, not even after 1 week I got the PO14 sub which is something incredibile and banger together with the PO12. It has the arpeggiator and I’m making some music that I’m surprised, it bangs really hard

    Love the approach. It's so amazing to go from using 10% of the power of a few huge and cumbersome synths and drum machines in the early 90s to using 90% of the potential of gear that looks like toys, but is crazy powerful under the hood. I'm into it!

    Would have liked to have seen more done with the fm, as the sequencer, arpeggiator, and clock divider could make some already neat fm sounds really interesting. That aside, I did really enjoy just watching someone else's creative process at work and how they talk through it, the stuff that otherwise just goes on in your head. Definitely enjoyed that aspect a lot, really cool.

    hey, there is a really straight forward way to sync the volca fm (or any volca device) using those 1/8th cables:
    1. plug a 1/8th cable into the "in" port on your Volca FM the cable should be disconnected on the other end.
    2. press play on your FM and your PO-12 (you'll notice that nothing happens).
    3. unplug the 1/8th cable from the Volca FM "sync in" port.
    4. the PO and Volca are now playing through their sequences on the same step.
    This method works with any Volca device as a master and can be used to sync as many devices as you'd like, so long as you go down the chain and make sure you've primed all your devices by pressing the play button first!
    sorry that this advice is 2 years late, but if this comment finds your eyes maybe it will inspire you to dust off your FM again for a quarantine edition of your "compact creations" series.

    I'm glad you changed your mind. The volcas and POs are very versatile and coupled with relatively cheap and yet powerful effects such as the Zoom MS70cdr (as @good boid suggested) makes for both an inexpensive and still sonically emotive setup. I am just a home-hobbyist but have heard many people on youtube use these devices to amazing affect.

  • @NutritionalZero
    @NutritionalZero 6 лет назад +3

    I'd like to see you push the concept a bit further. It's a good jam, but I feel like the underlying principle of the series was to try to help people with limited means make more finished tracks with small, cheap hardware-based setups. How polished can you make it? Can you make a track that's indistinguishable from one made on more expensive gear? What are the absolute must-haves in the $100, $200 dollar range? Cheap on-board sequencers tend to be one-bar loops-and song modes are limited-what can you do given this constraint? What if you want to record in stereo so that you can have things panned left and right, how cheaply can you accomplish that? etc. etc. etc. I think there's a wealth of advice to share here! :-)

    • @NutritionalZero
      @NutritionalZero 6 лет назад +1

      Fine, "virtually indistinguishable" or "less distinguishable" then. I think the point of the series was that "as good as you could hope for" is actually better than you think. There's something really inspiring about the premise of the series, so I'd like to see Enrique dig deeper than the other "inexpensive hardware" RUclipsrs who post a jam and just call it a jam. Here are two examples of what I mean: 1) most if not all Volcas support motion sequencing, which is a primitive kind of Elektron-style automation. It could have given the pad more variation; 2) the H4N Pro supports overdubbing and bouncing. With a little work, you could record and bounce all the centre channel stuff to a mono track, then overdub pads and perhaps another Volca FM. The H4n has onboard FX like reverb and delay which could add spaciousness and shine, as well as compression and filtering which could give a final coat of polish to a mix.

    • @willdahbe

    Listen Ricky, I know this is one of your older videos but I’m wanting to get a “basic” (if there’s such a thing) FM synth. I’m after that classic Detroit “DX100” bass sound, for a box I don’t plan on using it that often, so the volca FM would fit the bill. Problem is that there’s not to many people using it in a House/Techno context! Please, what are your thoughts 👍🏽🙏🏽🇬🇧

If I hook it up, go to Synthmata (google it if you aren’t familiar, it changes the entire game) and actually get into it, it’s a lot easier than navigating through the menus on the Volca FM.
