    The "I'm on holiday don't call me" is actually in the French work law.
    Employers must respect breaks, holidays and resting time in general and only contact workers in case of emergency. This is to avoid abuses.

      @@sadboi1972 I know it's a joke, but here is the serious answer.
      You can demand French citizenship if you have legally lived and worked in France for 5 years, and have a sufficient knowledge of the French language. If your spouse and/or your kid live outside France, this may not work. Some conditions can reduce or erase this time, but most requires being from a francophonic country or having served inside France's army.
      Also, I'm not sure but it is what would seem normal to me, but labor laws may be the same for non-French legally living and working in France.

    Also, USA : A is in theory the best possible score, but teachers invented A+, A++ because "you can always improve yourself".
    France : 20/20 is nearly impossible and suspicious because "perfection does not exists", so teachers will give you a maximum score of 19/20 or 19.5/20 (yes, we DO use decimals).

      @adamzeg3665 3 года назад +197

      Let alone the 19.75/20 (and even sometimes, 19.80/20). But in France, the teachers begin to use color coding or letters (even in high school sometimes) because of the "stress of getting notes". (but it's as bad as the notes because of the lack of accuracy)

    His description of French is so accurate except for the one on notes, some families are like this but it's not such a large thing as asians families for example because after the 2nd or 3rd year of middle school, having a 20/20 become something rare for most people because 20/20 is supposed to be perfect so teachers are pretty damn careful about it and will give like 18, 19 or even 19,5/20.
    But to be fair most parents set like a grade cap and if you're under you failed, this cap really depends on families and can evolve with time, for example mine was 12/20 and I have seen a lot of 10/20, 14/20 or 15/20

      In some cases in the US you might be able to take FMLA leave (Family and Medical Leave Act), but that is only up to 12 weeks in a 12-month period (except if caring for a relative who was injured during military service, in which case you get 26 weeks) and this time is normally unpaid. Of course, your paperwork has to be approved by Human Resources. If you haven't recovered from your surgery or whatever after that time, you can lose your job. And since you're not getting paid during that time you're probably in serious debt now.
      Edit: I showed this post to my boyfriend, and he reminded me of a loophole in FMLA law that basically says that your company is only required to hold *A* job open for you if you qualify for this type of leave, but they don't necessarily have to hold *YOUR* job for you. This was designed to accommodate businesses' changing staffing needs that may result in an employee's position being eliminated (for example, in the case of staffing agencies that supply specialized labor to clients, if a client decides to terminate their contract with that agency, the employee's job would no longer exist), but the loophole can sometimes be abused by companies to essentially demote or force out people who take leave.

    The French customer service is very on point. It's like : why are you even in my store right now ? 😅

    I had once a philosophy teacher who gave below zero scores like -15/20... So encouraging.

      I understand! I was in France with 50 other French teachers for a grad program. One gal went to the prof to contest an answer he marked wrong. He looked French at her and lowered her whole grade. I sat in the back by the window in case I wanted to escape. Scary times!!
