I love how complete and thorough this and such a useful analysis. So many swimmers are at this kind of level: nothing standing out as super wrong but a combination of small things that just drag. And usually this is hard to advise because it's hard to know what to start on but you just go top to bottom then end on emphasis on the paddle - which is what all the other positioning is there to enable. And even a good couple drills and a realistic time-line. This is the video I want to give people asking for swim advise because it's all correct in the right directions. I'm a swim teacher but not a coach I teach basic beginners, safety and lifeguarding. But I'm not a great swimmer myself when it come to technique and I swim very similar to this guy in the example. It's easy to give ore basic instructions for me but when people start asking for the kind of efficiency for long distance speed as you coach I'm not great at running through all the different layers theway you do so masterfully here. Great coaching, thank you!
This is just great ! I am in same situation (2min 10s/100m) and unable to push sub 2 mins All the points mentioned here are some problems which I also do. My takeaway from this is : don't bend knees too much for streamlined body, not losing balance while tilting, taking care of first quadrant, and keep checking how I finish the stroke. I'll take one point at a time and try it out in the pool. This was very helpful. Thanks Coach !
I am 55. I have been swimming for many years - but I never considered form and style in this depth. I have been learning and focusing for about two years now. Watching quality tuition like this has made such a difference. Thank you.
This type of analysis is why I signed up as a member. Absolutely the most comprehensive and common sense instruction out there. I have only been using the program a few days and have seen a remarkable difference in my swimming. Great stuff guys!
Good analysis and I passed from that stage....what can I said is this: Untill not dominating the breathing, and I mean for this breath more "natural" and not forced he won't be able to breath relaxes and swin for long distances and time One good exercise is swim a pool and work in the stream line return keeping the head longer under water....this will provide the swimmer best confidence in his air and lung capacity The other exercise is doing kiking with a bord but keeping the head under the water, and then, lift the head and breath and return the head under water and excalling slowly. After a while, the results can be astonishing with better and more relaxed performance and allowing to concentrate more in the the technique. Progressively, the swimmer will be able to swim longer distances, more efficently and without exaustion
this a such a cool video format. you're not only showing pros, but also analyze "normal" swimmers. I am a swimming coach for kids, teaching them freestyle technique after they learned breast stroke and back stroke. since I'm not a swimmer myself (as a hobby triathlete it was my least favourite discipline), I learn sooo much from your videos. thanks a lot!
Amazing analysis of all areas areas of freestyle stroke! I'll definitely start implementing this weekend ! ( as an amateur swimmer who swims everyday for fun/fitness and is generally pretty fit, but when swimming gets out of breath very very quickly with free style !)
I have started learning how to swim in January, in my mid thirties, and I call it the dead hand 🤣🤣i had a lot of water phobia which I managed to get over it, I can now swim a very beautiful breaststroke, as per my teacher, I am learning freestyle, which it is actually my favourite as I feel stronger, but it is the one I struggle the most. In my mind I swim beautifully, but when I recorder myself, I have the same hand pattern as him, past my hip.. i call it dead hand 🤣🤣 it is getting better, but I can do a lot of continuous 20 m freestyle.. it hasn’t clicked as much as the other styles, I struggle with breathing and rotating, your videos and my teacher’s advice help me a lot! ❤️
This is really useful. Thankyou. Would be great to see a side-by-side compare of Leon's 2:00 (my times are similar and looks like I probably need to make similar corrections) with Andy Donaldson's seemingly effortless 1:12 time. Fitness levels aside, feels like there would be some good tips to be had from comparing both.
The first 50m I swim effortlessly around 1:50. I have to conciously go sloooow to not go below 2:00. But then I drop 5s every 50m and after 300m I must full gas to stay below 2:15 and gravitate towards 2:30. I "think" I do the same, but there is no way I can keep the body position the same. No drill whatsoever could change that yet. Just staying flat in the water is exhausting after short, and I tried everything from weight to core exercises. In the water I just fall apart after minutes.
I would advise to work on shorter sets - 100m or max 200m ... but really focus on technique. Too many people just get in the pool and do 1000m and after 300m their technique goes to pot and they're just fighting the water. I also use the pull buoy a lot to really focus on arm technique. So might do 100m normal, 100m with pull buoy, 100m a bit faster, 100m a bit faster with pull buoy etc. and them maybe try a longer set. Doing this made me go from really struggling to get below 2:00/100m to easily swimming below 2:00.
This is somewhat similar to how I swim, and it's really fascinating to see you break it all down. The challenge for me is just to know where to start. I've been swimming like this for so many years that my muscle memory is all wrong. How do I unteach my body to do different things? There are so many parts to what you're saying that it's a bit overwhelming. Also, when I'm in the water, I think I'm doing things correctly, but I don't really know. Sometimes I can tell I'm a little smoother, but then things fall apart as I start to tire. I live in the US and am considering flying to Australia or New Zealand later this year to attend one of your clinics where you film the swimmers and then analyze their stroke. Hopefully that will help me.
I just started swimming 2 weeks ago as an adult and have been binging watching these feedback vids as well as Dan Smith's insane 1:10/100m. would love to hit one day 2:00/100m.
Swim more watch videos less. You want to start feeling the water and your body (really important to not hurt yourself) and don't overthink it. Overthrowing distracts from feeling the movements. It takes a long time and when you start you don't want to worry about the high level finesse because it's not relevant. Try to find a fu way to swim with kids or friends and just go for it without thinking so much for at least a few months. Instead of videos talk to other people in the pool, even the lifeguards. Really, dont look at youtube until later. Months from now.
the reason why he is rotating his shoulders too far might be that, he is not rotating correctly. A lot of people include some sort of extending the lower back while rotating to keep the head completely out of the water, mainly because they are scared of swallowing water or because they cannot rotate at the upperback which is actually what we want. Notice how he is not in rotation when catching water when breathing. His timing is off, probably he is briefing too late.

Good stuff! Thank you so much for your solid tips! I'm pretty much a beginner swimmer at 47. Doing okayish so far.
Never considered hand positioning on the pull past the hip. I may be flattening out my hand too soon. Great tip!
I went to a clinic and we practiced pushing away frorm the wall standing and walking forward to emulate this move. It's a game changer.
@@Natalie-rl7dq I can see that. If you flatten out your hand prematurely on the pull, you lose that extra bit of push against the water.

Thank You for this swimmer.
Thank You for the tip to do exercises during warmup, so to get some changes already in some main sets 🙏
So glad to be able to find this channel!!! I learn more from here then my own coach 😂
You like being misled by Fox News? They're the mouthpiece for the republican party. They're programming you to support them.
3:33 this part is very enlightening. I also noticed that I easily get tired if I kick too much, now I'm planning to start building shoulder strength
Kicking too much gonna consume more lung capacity if not mistaken .
I’ve been doing lots of upper body strength training and the results improving my pace have been significant.
I completely stopped kicking. Maybe a 1 beat kick like ledecky. I could barely swim 50m. Now I swim 200 free easily
As a reasonable freestyle swimmer, who could do better, this is the best online instructional video I've seen. Many thanks.

This video marries so well with your 5 Core Principles course. 🙏🏻
I really enjoy your videos and explanations. You have really helped me focus on my swimming technique as an older swimmer in his 40s. Thank you 🙏
Thank you!
I would love for a video on dry land stretches for high elbow flexebility.
Descriptive explanation. Thank you, Brenton. 😊

Thanks for this one. I think I probably look like this when I’m in the water. I’m going to try some of the fixes myself.
Fantastic coach. Well done.

@@thomasspielhofer3229 Thank you, thats what I actually did when I did triathlon races. 10x200m go every 5min was the only thing that made me quicker.
Super helpful- thanks for the analysis (lots in there for me to focus on too)

When we talk about breaking that 2:00/100 pace, how long are we talking about? How long are you looking to maintain that pace?
I’m almost Leon in the water. Thank you for the analysis!
great!! i'll check that out!! thanks
it is not friday in Mexico still, but very good video, Cheers Coach
Damn, Brenton is freaking amazing at his analysis
Fantastic video
Great video. Very helpful.
Light bulb stroke ,& drill ?! I watched previous episode & i learn it from there
Thanks!
Do you have to be a member to submit a video for feedback friday?
Great video! Thank you.
Perhaps he needs to change to more of a catch- up stroke to prevent the fall of the left shoulder?

Overthinking not overthrowing.... phone keyboards grrr

I was going to say I saw he was breathing too late too, caught my eye right away, looked robotic and out of time
He should practice Catch up drill to let both his arms remain infront the head position . Am i right?
There’s a slight dropped elbow on his right arm on entry too.
Nice video.
The best swimmers can do 200m in under 2 minutes. Are you saying the difference is technique? Or is it mostly raw strength?
I wonder this all the time too. Or stroke rate
It's me.... also stuck getting past the 2.00min/100 barrier.
Triathlon taren says on the inhale you only want to take a sip of air... and exhale constantly when face is in the water.
3:04 Are bystanders lifeguards now? So crazy!
I think it’s a message to parents. Looks like it’s a kid in the pool and the mother on her phone.
When you say an arm should always be in front of the head, is that true for sprinting races too?
Quality!
Wow. Australia now is early in the morning . My time is 3:27am 😅.
At my position is still yesterday :)
I swim sometimes with a buddy who is no faster than me but has a decent dolphin kick.
He’s also dropping his elbow after the catch.
How to send the video
Is a tempo of 25 spm to low to reach 2:00 min? Anyone
Stomach muscles… connecting the straighter legs, pointed toes with the arms.
Anterior pelvic tilt, like 80% of us, imbalances his body position.
I have that too and it is more visible in swimming :( my hyper mobile knees are not helping me ..
How to send feedback Friday?
Email to support@effortlessswimming.com
That means his Head position should lay down or sleep on his shoulder extending yhe forearm , isnt it?
e noticed that i have same problem 😆
Pretty much all mistakes I make
🏊🏊🏊❤️❤️❤️🏊🏊🏊👌👌👌🏊🏊🏊
Within 2 years:
Sub 5 sec 25m
Sub 10 sec 50m
Sub 20 sec 100m
will be standard
All previous records will be forgotten
His style seems a little struggle in the water
2min/100m is my low for 1000 breaststroke warmup😂
Thanks!
Thanks!
