    Your practice tutorials and step by step instructions are better than ANY I've purchased from mainstream tutorial web sites. I kick myself (often) for not trying and applying your lessons years ago. I really do appreciate your skills, wealth of knowledge and teaching prowess.

    good draff, but to much dimensions and some of them doesn't need to exist. More difficult is to understand which dimensions is for, rather than the single model

    The back web is an incorrect width on the angled plate for the loft, it's not 0.31, it's a vector; a projected curve should have been used to keep the two planes parallel. The baseplate holes are dim'ed off the webs and shouldn't be assumed (bad modelling) to be at the centre of the fillets even though they are.

    • @callmewheels4806
      @callmewheels4806 Год назад

      I'm new to SolidWorks/modeling and don't want to pick up bad habits. I don't work in design but want to learn the software for my own benefit. I'm an engineer and agree that assumptions should never be made.
      Can you explain your approach?

    • @thedoctor16
      @thedoctor16 Год назад

      @@callmewheels4806 I suggest making the middle web first by extruded boss/base to the back of the cross web (right side CL +0.31/2). Then sketch a rectangle on the top surface of the bottom flange representing the base of the one side of this web. Exit. Now create a projected curve using the sktech you just made and the bottom surface of the top flange. You will have an open rectange. Now start a sketch on the bottom surface of the top flange and convert the curve you just made, now close the rectange. Exit. Now lofted boss/base, select the sketch you just made and the sketch used to make the curve and correct the guide line. Exit and mirror. Hide the curve. This results is a web that has no draft.
      I think my comment about the bottom flange holes is not correct. The holes are really dim'e off the two CLs but this is not good dim'ing as the 'hole pattern' is likely a key fit parameter not their distance from the CLs. But this is just an exercise....
      My advice in dim'ing is to take a course in GD&T (of RUclips if this is a hobby). Some things that are often forgetten in dim'ing are what's a critical dimension, manufacturing tolerances and how it will be made--this will help you know what to dim and what datum(s) to use (don't dim what you don't need to and dim from a datum that is key to part fuction/fit). Finally, getting feedback from the manufacturer is invaluable.

      Thanks for the reply and direction. I'm going to redraw the part using your method.
      Sound advise on GD&T.
      Been working in development engineering for 20+ years but want to learn SW so I can do load simulation on parts and assemblies (e.g. stress/strain) so I appreciate detail in approach.
      I'm developing something somewhat complex and have always relied on design engineers to translate my requirements into reality. This is a PERSONAL project so that luxury is absent.
      I plan on taking a class(or two) through GoEngineer (Dassault approved vender) to get formal training. They're pretty pricey so I want to come in with a "basic" understanding beforehand.
      Again, thank you for the advice and reply.
