Yes. Yes. Yes. A thousand time YES there should be weapons restrictions, without them every class feels the exact same as every other. Could there be some adjustments that might be good? Yeah probably. Heavy Bolt Pistol on Bulwark and Heavy? Yeah that would be cool. Knife on Tactical? Sure, Bolt Carbine on Vanguard? Definitely. The changes should be small and incremental though. Stop asking for every weapon on every class. That would just make it one big generic mess where there is very little point to classes even existing. STOP ASKING FOR IT
I definitely feel they could do at least some rebalancing of the weapon restrictions. Some are very odd considering what the class represents. Tactical should have les main weapons (mainly the ones that are extremely overshadowed) but have access to all the pistols and be given access to the combat knife, power sword, and power fist as Tactical is supposed to have the most flexibility. Assault should definitely have access to all the pistols. Haven’t played the Vanguard and sniper enough to opine on what they should get, though it is weird the heavy bolt pistol isn’t given to the Vanguard and Bulwark when Reivers and Bladeguard have them or equivalent . Heavy really should have access to either the combat knife or a weaker single target version so they might actually be able swap from balanced to fencing, if they made it a smaller knife they could have light attacks be slashes and keep the heavy as the stomps. One of the biggest things is they need to figure out a better way to balance some fights based on the group make up. Zoanthropes are already a pain, but when you your group is a Bulwark, Assault, and Vanguard it is an absolute nightmare without krak grenades. Those fights make me wish for a disposal heavy bolter like in the campaign to be able to fight back more effectively. Edit - Also the guys you are playing as are closer to chapter veterans and likely have access to a wider range of wear gear anyways, not the rank and file. And the weapons you saw in the model photos are the Thunder Hammer (not axe) and a “normal” Space Marine knife where the combat knife is significantly bigger and longer. Compare the combat knife on the Reiver model to the one on the Intercessor you pictured. Edit 2 - the other issue with the restrictions it the fact one of a class preventing people from being able to level up unique class weapons. They should have either done class restrictions or unique weapon restrictions…not both simultaneously.
Sniper in PVP should get mid range options like the Marksman Carbine & the Occulus Bolt Carbine instead of the regular Bolt Carbine SMG. Vanguard should have the Bolt Carbine SMG instead, it's lore accurate. The poster highlighted more casual changes with Class restrictions instead of more important ones for Classes in PVP that need variety.
I think heavy should have access to something for melee cuz once I tried to kill carnifex and neurothrope with melee but stomping did pretty much no damage against big bosses. Or he should wear spiked shoes or something.

And bro for sure one tapped a heavy weapons turret with a charged plasma pistol shot @3:25 - 3:35 in Astartes video.
New weapons should be added for more variety. There should be restrictions for primary & melee, but only secondary weapons should be open for every class. New weapons should be added that makes sense for the class. Example of this is a volkite caliver for the sniper that focuses on weakening VIP targets, bolt shotgun for vanguard as he's a cqc duelist, missile launcher for heavy to combat crowd control & etc.
Assault should get the power sword, vanguard should get the chainsword, bulwark should get the hvy bolt pistol. The hvy bolt pistol and knife should be available to all.
I feel like the chain sword and knife should be available for every class. Same goes for the pistols, but I do agree assault having a plasma might be a bit much. So it would need to be tested.
Terminator could be different class from Heavy, beeting him in weight department, have melee weapons (like Power Sword and Power Fist) but been slower and not be able to dodge&roll

I think within reason. The Bulwark and Assualt should probably have each other's stuff, like the Bulwark should have the Hammer and Assualt had the power sword, and Bulwark has the Heavy Bolt pistol etc. The knife really should be on every class.
I wouldn’t mind having the heavy bolt pistol on more classes than the assault. I also think the vanguard should get that other bolt carbine that the tactical and sniper have. It makes more sense for that class.
There are a few exceptions I think. I would be ok with only the Heavy having access to things like heavy weapons. Sniper only sniper weapons. Stalker bolter not included. However, for the pistols, melee weapons, etc... I don't really see why not.
What I want is the sniper's cape physics fixed. Its annoying seeing half the combat knife just poking out of it instead of the cape being swept to the side to make room for the arm.
It isn't a matter of needing restrictions it is a matter of GW said "this is what they are allowed to have" the devs are constantly talking about all the stuff GW has to sign off on.

The only ones I support are giving all classes all pistols. I originally thought of giving everyone the knife, and then I thought of bulwark. Everything else isn't viable.
No. That will unintentionally kill diversity between classes and end up making the classes feel the same, killing replayability and player counts faster than anything. Imagine joining a game with everyone using same meta weapon at the time all the time. It will get boring real quick. What we need to make each class to feel more variety, they need to rework class perks and weapon perks to genuinely give each player multiple different ways to function without one clearly better perk to pick over other trashes.
In lore most weapons can be used by any squad type but they do tend to favor weapons for their purpose like assault squads tend to use melee as they do jump pack into the rear lines of the enemy to cause havoc. Really it's really lore breaking to have random members in a squad like they do in ops and pvp as your bulk of squads are tac squad which are mostly tactical marines with bolt rifles with one or two guys with heavy bolters or one heavy bolter and a missile launcher or flamer. Really since they broke lore already they should allow us to use three of the same class at the same time just don't stack the auspecs scan for balance or make the restrictions only for lethal or something. With more weapons open to other classes like at least allow all classes to use the bolt rifle other than the heavy and bulwark as well as make all side arms open to all classes like in the table top.

Anyone else noticing a difficulty change post the Neo volkite patch? I had been regularly beating ruthless, either solo or in groups, now substantial seems harder than ruthless was. Played about 4 hrs last night, got 1 single victory in ruthless out of about 7 or 8 runs
The knife and secondary weapons shouldnt be restricted. But its wasted time to be saying this stuff since Saber isnt going to actually listen. Its just discussion hoping for stuff we'll never have.
The PVP is so wildly unbalanced that any "balance decisions" appear completely arbitrary and non-sensical to me, personally. I don't think that the sniper should be carrying a heavy incinerator, but many of the design and balance decisions, from my anecdotal time in PVP, appear completely null and void in terms of actual balance.

They just need higher leveling. 25 is too low. It is just is too fast to get to max level for classes. Especially since it takes so much longer for you to max out weapons.

Parrying works in PvP. You just have to have good timing.
Knife is slightly higher single target damage than chainsword.
On the tabletop, the assault is meant to have the power sword option and a plasma pistol. It's just law friendly.

Maybe it's necessary for PVP balance but why can't the restrictions be different for PVE?

I haven't noticed. Haven't had a failed game yet. Substantial lvl 25 Vanguard. White Primary.
