The idea of a Vtuber I feel does need to slowly remove itself from solely Anime since…it’s just an avatar not an animation style from Japan. It did start in Japan, but that doesn’t mean the model styles have to stay the same and stay in Japan, if you get what I mean. There’s some where it makes sense why it’s anime inspired. But most don’t since most of the ones I see don’t have a strong connection to anime.

I… I see the whole racist argument, but it’s very reminiscent of the time when people were saying “why are all anime characters white?” But like… they’re not white, they’re Japanese in a very stylized art style. The vtuber community is deeply rooted in Japanese culture, so yeah, it’s going to reflect that. I’m not saying there isn’t racism, but I don’t think it’s quite the gotcha some people think it is.
Those arguments are quite different in their situations. Anime characters are white and that's fine. And sometimes they aren't white. That's fine too. Those that want to argue for representation by forcing their identity into an already made character can just keep talking to a wall. Saying racial slurs, implying to say racial swears, avoiding to make darker skinned avatars to avoid bullying and harassment is a much heavier topic. Not only that but the community that rallies around these vtubers that continue to be racist and their stans with no thought or feeling defending them to their last breath is disgusting. Often perpetuating that white skin is dominant in the space where skin color shouldn't matter. Asians have a skin color more akin to White than black. Depending on the Asian, however to harass anyone because of skin pigmentation or in the case avatars, is truly white skin supremacy being upheld in a disgusting way.

Yep, her entire history shows lies and changing the stories and finally someone like Muta comes in who is respected and makes strong cases against her. She can't even default to half of her arguments since he's not as problematic like Destiny (I like Destiny to a degree) or white (she's already defaulting to her tried and true with the thumbnail).
It's frustrating seeing the usual arguments, but I'm hoping this will be the strongest case against the grift that potentially stops it from devolving further.

most of the backlash from thegawd's video was from an intro sequence which he deleted where he took JP speaking vtubers out of context and editing it so make it sound like they were saying the gamer word, on top of that using a current hololive member's real face and big red arrow to their current identity

The JP streamers were saying the "gamer word". They were playing GTA and copying the scene my guy. It is not out of context but it is true that they don't know the meaning of that word. That doesn't stop them from being held accountable though.

I hate the visics situation because there IS a huge problem with racists in the vtuber community and even the anime community as a whole. But using disingenuous examples like vtubers being taken advantage of by a language barrier, or even just non English words being spoken that just so happen to sound similar to English racial slurs just gives the argument such a fake vibe. There's still some very good examples that he uses and that's great but if you pair it with disingenuous clips that are taken out of context it ruins your argument and not only sends hate towards people who are undeserving, but it gives actual racists an excuse to belittle your argument.
That said, I also think it's dumb that his argument is "people don't wake up and become different people so they must still be racist/ignorant" when... people do change. Kris Tyson was a good example of that, before she even got called out for past behavior she started to realize how racism was integrated into her life from a young age by people she was raised around and even made a tweet about how hard it is to work through that stuff. She ended up being called out anyway, but people were quick to point out that she already corrected her bad behavior and moved on, and so should the people angry with her past behavior. Because THAT'S what we want, we want people to stop being racists and if they do go to therapy and fix their behavior then they did the right thing! There's not much else they can do besides that. Apologize, correct, move forward. I hope he can realize how dumb that argument is in the face of his past homophobia, because either he grew as a person and can relate that sort of experience to what he's talking about now or... he's still homophobic and NEEDS to reach that point himself.
I think if it isn't addressed and there are videos out there in the public it is still a fair call out. It also doesn't make sense to act like it isnt valid to call out just because someone has also missed the mark in the past

visecs is part of a rap collective called WDFA, and a portion of its members are LGBTQ (first one that comes to mind is Kezura). He's shown love and respect to these members not just as artists, but as people and as his friends.
I would assume that he, hopefully, worked through the homophobia since that is what is happening current day. It's just that he hasn't made a public statement about it, and no one is forced to make such a statement like that.
However, I still don't agree with his sentiment that they must be the same person they were last night. I absolutely get where he's coming from because growth is a continual process, but through his examples and how he says it, he's rejecting the idea that they can change which I think is a pretty bad way to handle it.
HOWEVER (part 2), it's still crazy seeing the replies on his twitter and his video from people who are clearly racist. Like, wow. What a way to be an example for your community. :3

I think then he should be able to relate his experience there to some of the experiences of some of these vtubers. Maybe that doesn't mean he has to forgive them, that's up to him and him alone. But I do think there should be some semblance of empathy or recognition on correcting behaviors that don't quite represent who you are.
I think it really says a lot about the situation when the only thing Keffals says in response is "this thumbnail is transphobic" when her portrait is arguably the least grotesque caricature the artist has drawn.

With Visecs while the topic of racism in the Vtuber community, hell maybe just the japanese community in general, is definetly something that can and should be discussed, it feels with the way how he did it (with all the edits and what not) he cared less about the actual topic itself and more about just getting as much attention as possible for himself personally, plus I've never been a fan of the defense of "Oh i'm just keeping it real" in general whenever ppl go into something hyper agressive and confrontational, reminds what to much of classic teenagers in highschool who think being a colossal asshat somehow makes them "real" being able to be calm and get your point across in a chill minor isn't being "fake"

I think my main issue with it is when he showed some of the hololive girls saying the N word, many of them had no idea what they were saying. Then when they did learn we see many of them during a new playthrough miko being the biggest one did not say and even commented and told there viewers. i know better now, and im not saying it. He kept the part out of them growing and understanding different culters better. While there is an issue to be talked about. trying to keep it one-sided so you look right no matter what is really bad.

It's just vastly annoying that we have people attacking either the thumbnail or the few "straws" that don't line up and using this as "facts" to close out his vid. He pulls everything into a timeline with things that we the audience can follow and find ourselves. It's why I like Mutas vids, he makes sure I know why he feels a certain way because I'm given the threads to follow through.
It's just so frustrating that like the Completionist we have people refuting facts for feelings. So annoying to see but like all of these I assume it'll get more waves as time goes on and we just need to see how it goes in the end.

I think Visecs could have gone about it another way instead of doing it like he did. As a black woman in the anime community, there is a lot of racism that should be called out more and I'm all for talking about it. But when you do it like this, in a way that instead of starting a civil discussion, starts a riot. You aren't helping the case, but making it worse for you and everyone else.
The full vtuber video isn't bad but the intro (which have now been removed from the video) was horrendous. He decided to rage bait by misrepresenting a bunch of vtubers mostly Japanese vtubers with out of context clips as well as face doxing a vtuber. It's a terrible way to open a video that you want people to take seriously and made him look disingenuous. I have issues with the rest of the video too, but at least it's competent and addresses some valid points unlike the intro which immediately turned the majority of people away.
I feel like the intro was low-hanging fruit that was easily discredited, so most people discredited the rest of the video - a shame since he does have some valid points.

Most of his points are not exclusive to vtubers but streamers in general. The only thing of any substance really was the lack of different skin tones available in vtuber assets but even that is something you'd need to talk to artists about not vtubers.
@@infsm27 it had Japanese vtubers repeating what they hear in the GTA game that they’re playing, some of which was the n-word, not knowing the context or meaning of the word. Also had a clip of a Japanese vtuber saying, 「ニがうるさい」, referring to another vtuber who kept saying, “Ni/Nya!” and so she says “Ni ga urusai” but the subject and particle together sounds similar to the n-word. There was also another clip of a vtuber literally speaking Chinese, cut in a way to sound like the n-word, and other ones of Japanese vtubers spliced so it sounds like they might have said it, but they actually were speaking Japanese, such as 「逃げろ」or “Run!” in EN
Omni said it best, but I'm going to reiterate that whenever you talk about any controversial topic, you need to present yourself and argument in a way that people will actually listen to. If you come out guns blazing, with poorly made arguments, people will take every opportunity to poke holes in it and use you as an example for why no one takes the topic seriously.
Honestly the issue with Visecs video is that he face doxes a vtuber (a huge no no in the space - for context face doxxing a vtuber is just about as much of a cardinal sin as a youtube using the copyright strike system to flag videos they don't like) and uses some clips that are just out of context japanese vtuber saying bitter (Nigai) or saying N*gga when playing GTA.
Ya know. The game where the black characters use that word pretty frequently and without a hateful context. If your only exposure to something that is considered a slur is a context when it is treated neutrally/friendly/not racist it only makes sense that someone would think the same.
There are also a lot of legitimate issues of racism in the vtuber community and space that he could have used but didn't use a single one of those - probably because a lot of the racism goes both ways where you have people attacking vtubers like Ironmouse for "whitewashing" or "black-fishing" herself even though she's a latina who just tans (and I think she's even said this) or attacking and harassing japanese vtubers for having for having very cutesy and childlike models or even the instances of where you get the really RACIST KKK stans doing the straight up MOST to insult and harass POC vtubers.
Also as someone who is within the space - it does go deeper than just avoiding racist comments. It is also to avoid having to *prove* or *validate* your race or face revealing if people start doubting your race for whatever reason. Some people also just treat their vtuber a character that they play as opposed to a character or avatar meant to represent them as a person. So there are multitude of reasons as far as why. Being a vtuber is a very inherently weebish space. A lot of people just wanna be their favorite or idealized anime characters with crazy hair. Most people aren't thinking about their race and making an avatar that closely resembles or represents them.
His video felt like he was just entering a lobby with friendly fire on and throwing bombs everywhere not caring who the fuck got caught in the cross fire. And now he attracted the people that REALLY WILL give him some racism to talk about. He said it's fine to dig into the pasts of others, now people are returning that same energy and flipping through his.
If you're referring to the Smash drama back in the day, even he was pissed his circle had folks involved in that and wanted them gone.

When it comes to the Vtuber racism stuff there are a few arguments that weren't adressed (some good, some bad). Imo there are 3 angles from which people have problem with his video (more so trailer of it on twitter):
>showing examples Japanese vtubers using words in their language that sound like n-word, and repeating after GTA characters without knowing what understaning their word.
>showing vtuber singing karaoke, and saying it by accident (something she immediately apologized for). Their problem is assigning malice to someone they like and know that she isn't the kind of person she is painted to be.
>showing vtuber face without them being clearly ok with it is taboo, and people don't care why he did it.
>and finally some people are just straight up racist and don't find a problem even with the legit bad clips - f*ck them.
I think you summarized it all pretty well. I'll also add, since a lot of people apparently don't know, this isn't even Shizzy's vtuber debut. He's been on the scene for a few months if not over a year now
To that last point, there are racists in every community but they don't come out unless provoked or see an opportunity to spit their vitrial. Here's a classic example of a racist (towards Asians) black person being clapped back by both normal vtubers fans and racists.
He cut the Japanese/Koreans some slack in the second video. He even, allegedly, took down the irl face of the corpo.
The twitter freaks came in full force in the replies, qrt, and youtube comment section, though (which he probably saw coming due to addressing the fans for the most part in the first one)

I agree with some of the points Shizzy made in his video, but it also has some serious inconsistencies that make him seem like a hypocrite. I'm mainly disappointed by the fact that he misrepresents a bunch of native Japanese vtubers in the beginning of his video as racist with clips taken out of context. And as someone that says he's been vtubing for 3 years now, he should know better than to bring up another vtuber's PL without their permission
A lot of people do this. It's what happens when you tunnel vision into a legitimate topic without understanding that you still should be impartial for the sake of discussion. Those genuinely bad examples are indicative of someone wanting to reach for everything to expose something rather than taking the topic seriously with unbiased research. In other words, his eagerness and ego destroyed his own argument. Truth be told, I find all of his talking points to miss the mark of not just being flat out bad. For whatever reason, everyone who makes this "expose" videos on anime and anime related things tend to always end up this way, making the whole thing worthless to watch but still necessary to debunk due to the reach of some of these channels

I don't think clips for comedic effect, and a vtuber faux paus invalidates the thesis of the video. That comes across as really reductive when there's a legitimate case to be made about racism in the vtuber community. It's fine not to like to like how a message was delivered, but I don't think that should invalidate the entire message

Most of it were streamer/influencer issues. I have to question his intentions if one of the best points he had were on vtuber assets not having enough skin tones.

I took the vtuber aspect of the video as being indicative to a larger issue when it comes to skin tone in media; vtubers becoming as large as they have being a mirror for entertainment industries as a whole. As an example, I'm not black, but my partner is, and something I didn't realize was lacking in games with character customization and avatar creation as a whole, was darker skin tones and hair options. Hair especially being a sticking point when she can't find much beyond the three options of afro, braids, or the killmonger special. Not having that variety in a medium as large as the vtuber space does effect the desire to have those options in other places due to the lack of incentive to do so.

They brought up how Kenji , another Vtuber, had to use a lighter skin tone bc the artists wouldn’t give him darker skin. A lot of vtubers have this issue but Visecs didn’t cover that. It’s not that they don’t won’t darker models, it’s that some artists REFUSE to draw them darker !

The reason Visecs is getting a lot of flack is because of a few things in the original video that makes the whole thing feel disingenuous and just as manufactured as the drama and virtue signaling he blasts. The original video (before he took it down and cut it out) started with a long series of clips of Japanese Vtubers saying word in their native language that sound close to the Hard R and purposely clipped them in a way that makes it look like they’re saying it just for the sake of it when the reality was completely different. He also doxxed an active Vtuber talent in the video.
It unfortunate because he actually makes some good points in the video but the other part was so intentionally disingenuous that it destroys the credibility of the entire thing.

Visecs probably did more bad than good. When you go at everything with such negative energy and paint things that aren't racist as racist while grouping them among stuff that are ACTUALLY racist, you end up with people caring LESS about the subject and taking it LESS seriously. He tried to defuse a bomb with a sledgehammer and to nobody's surprise it did no good. He can hide behind "I'm just being who I am" all he wants, but at the end of the day if he's worsening the racism situation by acting recklessly that's just an objectively bad act.
There is a cynical part of me that wonders if he's just using the racism as a means of furthering his career and garnering attention which seems to be what's happening, but I'm getting more "didn't think this through" vibes instead of any actual cunning.

My take on the whole vtuber situation is that something like that video will never be addressed by a big corporate agency like Hololive. They have no reason to when the clips used are from years ago, out of context, and from a past life of a talent. Trying to come in and accuse Holo talents of poor behavior they had in the past won't make a tangible difference unless its continuous and overwhelming (aka Coco or Rushia). And even then, Cover is better about protecting their talents now more than ever, so something like the clips in the twitter post won't make a tangible impact.
TL;DR- That vtuber callout vid won't make a difference to Hololive talents.

The Visces situation confuses me. As a black person I do value having these conversations because, yes it is well know that there is a problem with racism in the vtubing community but it feels like all he does is ramble and not really have a definitive point backed up by anything. The Helldivers 2 situation is no longer that people who have bought the game can no longer play it, that would've only happened if PSN account linking was made mandatory, which it was not.
The problem now is that the game remains delisted on Steam for 180 countries, this means people in those countries can no longer buy the game. However, people in those countries who have already bought the game and have it in their library can play it with no problems. They can even reinstall the game whenever as long as they don't remove the game from their account themselves or refund it, Steam won't remove the game from anyones library.

Regarding the Visecs incident, It's hard to be on the dude's side when he comes into a community as a villain. I mean he kinda said it himself. I get he wants to bring awareness to certain issues, but this was probably the worst way to go about it. The Vtuber community is very large. There are big creators and there are small creators. I stick to mostly Hololive since that's what I enjoy the most. Vtubing blew up in Japan for the most part. Majority of the larger creators are Japanese. Being surprised when a lot of models are lighter skinned shouldn't be shocking because of it's origin. The person in the video that he doxxed is someone who has spent their time trying to separate their previous content with their newer stuff. Not cause it's bad, but they just don't want people digging. To me, it just sounds like he's demanding respect while not respecting others. I have not watched the original video and I've heard he has since removed some of the content (Probably due to being threaten by the vtuber's company). I doubt he was actually trying to involve himself in the vtuber community and just sought to start some drama which is disappointing since I used to enjoy his appearances on Shofu's content

Also the VTubers he called racist in the video were all Japanese VTubers and don't know what the word means. They also have a word that sounds close to the slur in Japanese that he tried to paint as them saying the slur, but the word they were saying wasn't even about the slur. Ones who did say the slur by mistake end up owning up to said mistakes once someone tells them why that word is bad.
People need to learn that not everyone knows English or what certain words in English mean as it's not their native tongue

The reason Sony is delisting their games from all those countries is because PSN is not available in those countries for whatever reason. This prevents a situation where someone from one of those countries buys the game but can't play it because they need a PSN account.

The Keffals thing... she's a straight up monster for any single given event and what surrounds it. She admitted on camera that she intentionally doxed herself to provoke people to attack her, that she lied about pretty much everything, etc. Her own team admits that she even got into the gofundme to buy drugs. She should be required to pay back every penny and the police forces she lied about should at least force her to apologize for her false allegations. She had at least 3 different stories for all 3 alleged swattings and she has admitted that what wasn't outright lies was embellished. This is a person who has actively done things in attempts to destroy peoples lives on top of defrauding people for more than $100k. She is dangerous and evil and she needs to be banned from the internet, period. Not YT or twitter, the entire internet like they do with hackers and scammers.

Neat episode once again Omni! Though 2 things to note in particular:
1. The reason those 177 countries are being banned from playing Playstation games is because those countries straight up DON'T have access to PSN, so no one in those countries can make an account even if they wanted to. The fact that Japan, the country that birthed Sony, doesn't have PSN is both ironic and very sad.
2. While Dunkey did publish Animal Well, he didn't make the game. It was developed by Billy Basso, who pretty much worked on it by himself. I have to say this because I've noticed a LOT of people omitting his name when talking about the game for some reason. It's always good to give creators credit!
Saying there aren't enough Black VTubers just means that there's an open opportunity for you or someone else to fulfill. These companies are not obligated to have VTubers of any given ethnicity.

A problem with callouts is that they are just that, callouts. If you tell someone "you're the problem, asshole, you need to fix it" and antagonize them they dont want to listen to you even if the underlying message is sound. When one talks about an issue at large it needs to not feel like an attack if you want people to take in what you are saying and reflect, keep it civil and a lot more people are going to listen. If you are wondering "why should i have to change how i speak to accommodate someone else?" ask yourself this, do you actually want people to change, or do you just want to complain?
