    The furthest I’ve been east is Bowmanville. I do have video through the 418 interchange, but not sure if I like it enough to publish it.
    Great video, though the 401 could definitely use a full 6 lanes all the way to the Quebec border.

      yeah, it's a pretty busy highway, particularly to Kingston.

      Couldn't agree more about the 6 lanes. Far too busy.

    I haven't driven that section of the 401 in a decade. Thanks for sharing.

    Nice, the stretch of 401 I call home... I live up in Peterborough, but I've travelled all 800+ kms of the 401. Lane discipline on this section of 401 has always been a bit irritating, but once you drive it often enough, you'll just get used to it. Also, the section past Cobourg, where it goes down to 2 lanes, could get a bit hairy at times... lots of accidents happen here due to drivers not letting truckers in at the end of the merge. Great vid as always! Thanks for the upload!

    Great video again! I like driving in Canada, but watching people passing left and right and/or blocking the left lane makes me a bit agressive... ;-)
    A lil different here in germany, and i am not talking speed limit...
    Keep up the good work!

      the lane discipline definitely wasn't the best on the day that this was filmed.

    It’s nice they put additional overhead signage between Ajax and Clarington.

      overdue in my opinion, but it's definitely an improvement.

    This is easily my favourite stretch of the 401. I find the hydro lines from the nuclear plant which run along the side of the freeway kinda pretty too.

      i quite like this stretch of the 401 too. I would have liked to have filmed further into Northumberland County, but my battery was dying.

    Woho! Love the 401 but not the section in central Toronto!

    Farthest east on the 401 was Markham Road exit 383 from 427 or 403 410 interchange I traveled was Highway 6 North Guelph exit 300. Proper speed limits should be 110 or 120 km/h for Ajax to Quebec border 100 km/h Ajax to 407 exit 330 due to heavy Urban traffic in Mississauga and North part of Toronto then back to 110 or 120 km/h 407 to Windsor Ontario Detroit Michigan area

      @AsphaltPlanet1  5 лет назад +1

      the speed limit could definitely be higher on much of the 401, that's for sure.

    Great content as always. But seriously, after 35/115 cutoff the 401 needs to go to 110

    Great video! That Volkswagen cut you off pretty bad at 4:20. Seemed really close.

    70 years? Wow it's really been there for that long?

      a lot of the roads around Toronto are pretty old for north american standards. The 401 opened between Scarborough and Oshawa in 1947 as Highway 2A. Construction began on this stretch of the 401 in 1937 but completion was delayed due to the outbreak of world war 2. This section of the 401 was the first modern superhighway in Ontario. The QEW was constructed earlier, but at the time the MTO (then DHO) didn't have the legal authority to restrict driveway accesses from the highway so, although the QEW was a four lane divided highway, it wasn't access controlled like the 401 was.
      tldr: the 401 is 72 years old between Scarborough and Oshawa.

    Nice run of the 401!
    I've recently seen a news report saying that Toronto probably has one of the worst commutes in the world. With the amount of traffic on a 6 lane freeway like this one, I'm not surprised too much. What do you think? Do you think the future 418 is going to improve traffic overall for the 401?

    • @AsphaltPlanet1
      @AsphaltPlanet1  5 лет назад +2

      I don't know, I think the opening of the 418 will probably improve traffic a little bit on the 401 through Whitby and Oshawa, but I doubt it will have that much of an effect. Toronto traffic does suck though.

    Is there no law to keep right in Ontario? The capacity of the right lane seems poorly used, with all those semi trucks and slower cars hogging the center lane.

    • @AsphaltPlanet1
      @AsphaltPlanet1  5 лет назад +4

      it's definitely law that slower traffic should keep right, it's just not really enforced, and I'd say without driving experience in Europe, that by in large North American drivers are more adverse to lane changes than there European counterparts.

    • @fedge1968
      @fedge1968 5 лет назад +2

      Too many drivers, especially truckers, use the center lane as a way of avoiding constant merging traffic in the right lane. And of course truckers have to stay out of the left lane so the center one gets hogged up until at least you get past Harmony Rd where the distance between interchanges is longer.

      Asphalt Planet agreed, it seems to be more of a "suggestion" than a law here,
