I am 71. Your tutorials are very clear . I purchased wire online from Benecreat. It’s copper wire with a color. It says permanently colored wire. I fell in love with your Tree of Life wrapping. I will slowly work with wire to get to that point. Thank you for sharing your expertise and knowledge. After this video, I need to purchase some nylon pliers. Warm regards,
Thanks for making this video. I am just getting into jewelry making and weaving and this is buy far the most informative video on wire types I have been able to find. So much great information here. Thank you.
This tutorial supports why my created hook from wire as a hooked small hanger made by slipping over drapery rod for a length of crystal beads, worked. One was placed beside each lace curtain. East Indian beads were the inspiration.
I know others have commented on this but just wanted to add I go to Lowes and by electrical wire by the ft and it may not say the gauges on there but a lot of them have 10 wires in each length, I just bring my card that I can measure gauges with. I started doing this about 6 months ago and as much as I mess up I can't afford craft wire so I save that like the sterling silver plated for things I know I've mastered. My only problem is the tarnishing and sometimes I love the nice brown hue but other times I want to keep the shiny copper color so on greens and such I try to use Clear fingernail polish which doesn't work all the time but I've also used epoxy resin to coat over some of the bigger pieces and nothing seems to work very well. I seen a website that sells the paint on coating to prevent tarnish or preserve a patina but it is ridiculously expensive for a tiny one ounce bottle.
I love to watch your videos , very easy to follow and I am now coming up with some of my own designs , I posted some of my jewerly on facebook and recently I was just contacted to start selling my jewelry at some of our local gift shops ....LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos & wanted to say thank you so much for sharing :0)
I started wire-wrapping about a year ago using some very cheap coated copper & aluminum from Amazon... I eventually ran out of weaving wire, & wound up purchasing some brass from Artistic Wire. I love the color, but it is noticeably harder to work with. This explains why! Looking forward to replenishing my stores with some better quality metals now that I know a little more about this world. Your videos have definitely played a huge role in my learning, so thank you :)
Thank you for your videos. I always say if I learn one new thing from a video then it's time well spent. That is just what happened here. I sometimes wondered why half-round 20 gauge wire felt like I was working 26 gauge wire.....now I know why. Your description of the different silver wires was informative too. Time well spent, thanks again.
I've been wire wrapping a few months now, I'd always start projects and they wouldn't come out right, I figured out the other day I didn't start with the correct wires,. I currently use 16 G with 24 G. I am buying correct sizes tomorrow and I am excited!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this video I accidentally end up on this channel and I love it I can’t wait to try and make some jewelry, your jewelry is just amazing and you explain it so good and is very easy to see and understand.

I should start buying in bulk because I get the smaller spools from Rio Grande and inevitably I use up my 20g more quickly than my 24g or 12g. I'm also hesitant to buy silver because I find it becomes work-hardened more quickly. I would love to have more of that at my disposal, but i'm never sure what quantities of what gauges to buy.

Hey OXana, can you pleaze write a list of wires for beginners? If i am just getting started- what would you recommend? What shape (round, half- round or square) gauge (what to buy for getting started) dead soft, half- hard or what... How much of each would you buy just for trying out a few simple designs?
It would all depend on what type of piece you want to make. If you are trying it for the very first time, I'd recommend just going to a crafts store and getting 20 gauge round copper craft wire, like Artistic Brand and getting some beads and following this video: ruclips.net/video/WVnse04nvio/видео.html as that will be the easiest and cheapest way to try wire wrapping for the first time.
At Rio it is $16.80 for 1 pound of raw copper in 26 gauge, which equals to 1,260 ft. So Parawire may be a little cheaper in this case depending on the shipping.
I use sterling silver wire for jewelry I make for my own ir my kids. Because people don't buy for expensive jewelry. I use copper wire fir other stuff I make or sell. I use artistic wire for practice or for crystal beads.
thank you for this video. I would like someone to do a branding video where they speak on the different brands they most work with and the pricing... If you would that would be great... I find buying in craft stores now is too expensive as I use more wire not and well when I look on line I cannot find bulk buying if I do they seek you to. buy so much that it is very expensive too. Any suggestions?
Hi! first of all your videos are so great! They have inspired me to start wrapping. However, I'm not sure which gages to buy first. I want to start with the copper. What gages would you recommend I buy first to have a good selection to choose from when wrapping? Also would you recommend I get more than just round wire to start?
HI Oxana, I love the work you do in the wire wrapping, weaving. I noticed that in your tutortial with the Elvin pendant in copper with 20 gauge and 26 gauge I believe that you didn't explain how much wire it takes so I am having a difficult time starting the project. I want to use wire that looks kind of goldish and not gold. I do not know what it is, but you have used it in one or so of your pendants. Carol Greenwood
I usually try to mention it in the video or list how long my pieces of wire are, if I didn't do it in that video I am sorry I must have overlooked it. I have no way to go back and figure it out now, so my advice would be just to cut super long pieces, so you don't run out, and you'll probably have some excess at the ends to cut off, but that's better than running out.
What is the difference between using square, half round or round? Why do you prefer square over round for your pieces? Does anyone know where to buy square copper and filled wire in the UK?
If I plan on wearing a piece a lot (sleep in it and shower in it) would the raw copper turn my skin green or cause any other issues? If so Does oxidizing it eliminate that issue, or is it just to make it prettier and darker? Thanks so much for the videos I am hooked. And thank u for all the tips and information.
How do you store your wire? I currently have 3 1lb spools of copper wire from Rio Grande and I'm not sure how to store them! Does the bare copper oxidize by itself on the spool? Thanks!! :D
Yea, in all of my tutorial videos I list out all the wires required for that exact project in the description of the video. It can vary greatly from project to project.
I just watched this video and would like to know if there is a PDF anywhere with this info. I am terrible at taking notes! I moztly can't read my own writing or have so lityle detail in descriptions I don't know what I meant! TIA

What shape (round, half- round or square) gauge (what to buy for getting started) dead soft, half- hard or what...
How much of each would you buy just for trying out a few simple designs?
It would all depend on what type of piece you want to make. If you are trying it for the very first time, I'd recommend just going to a crafts store and getting 20 gauge round copper craft wire, like Artistic Brand and getting some beads and following this video: ruclips.net/video/WVnse04nvio/видео.html as that will be the easiest and cheapest way to try wire wrapping for the first time.
you get 1,295 feet of bare copper 26 gauge for $14.25 at ParaWire! at Rio grande you get 25 feet of 26 gauge bare copper for $15+ change!
At Rio it is $16.80 for 1 pound of raw copper in 26 gauge, which equals to 1,260 ft. So Parawire may be a little cheaper in this case depending on the shipping.

it could potentially turn it green, so you might want to consider sterling silver instead. oxidizing is just for looks
