    There is a learning curve... Make sure that your chains are further apart, the balled up chains will not work well at all... this will help get through the tight tees... and you have to have water flowing to wash away the debris.

    I still love my k400 with 75ft of 3/8 cable for these calls. Tip broke off long ago so I just bend the end as needed. I definitely would have pressured to install a auto air vent and a cleanout access.

    • @mattschulz558
      @mattschulz558 5 лет назад +1

      It seemed like off camera you were fighting with the drill chuck where it attaches to the flex shaft. It's a nice concept, lightweight but I believe my k400 with the bent cable would have made it through that galv T. No guarantee it would have gone the right direction lol. I have a 170" mercedes sprinter van so my k400 is always on board and it's not too heavy to bring inside.

    • @mattschulz558
      @mattschulz558 5 лет назад

      Since it doesn't have a foot pedal you only have one hand free to work the snake. I usually use my knee to push the pedal leaving both my hands available. Does the flex shaft spin inside a sleeve? No chance of busting a finger or wrist if that's the case, I usually go with thick leather gloves

      K400 has been my favorite machine for kitchen drains so far.

  • @redranger518
    @redranger518 5 лет назад +7

    You are using the flex shaft incorrectly, You need to take the 3" sleeve that comes with it and put in on the chain knockers area, that way your end part will not ball up. Right now you have it at the end of the red shaft hose before the chain knocker.

    • @ChuckBarron
      @ChuckBarron  5 лет назад +6

      oh snap....in the knocker itself? Thanks reds...I will read instructions more closely. typical of me...work then read....thanks plumber.

    • @stevenwhitmore5080
      @stevenwhitmore5080 Год назад +1

      This is not true for all knockers. The smooth knockers do not require the spacer, yes you can use it but if you’re trying to jump a trap or navigate smaller fittings it’s best to leave it off. With the carbide knockers you must use the spacer as it’s just to protect the cable from getting damaged if the carbide hits it.

      Hey Tanner, I just purchased the 204. Haven’t used it yet. I also picked up the carbide knockers. Have you used yours for clearing mainlines without running a cable machine prior? Have you cleared roots with any Flex Shaft?

      @@nathangoins2298 I don’t own the 204 unfortunately. I just have the 102 so I don’t use it for main lines(3-4 inch). I use mine for tubs, kitchens, laundry, etc. I have cut through some roots in a floor drain with it though. I use the penetrating ball head on the end with the smooth chains most of the time. Carbide if I’m in rusty old galvanized or cast. Agreed though there isn’t much info out there on these machines. Hopefully more vids will come out of people’s experiences. Looks like the flex shaft hit the cap dead center in the divot at the tee and that was the end of it. It has no way to bend and all it wants to do is go straight. Might be great for descaling but not so much for crazy bends. I say maybe my 3800 with my favorite lead might of done that turn. I know I encounter a bunch of hacked pipes.

    As I see the flex is not a cure all, but still , As I see it a great tool,,,
    I guess in your area, there are a lot of homes with crawl spaces.
    Do these drain lines have a problem with freezing, being exposed like that.

      Anyway I wanted something small enough , and possibly electric -- that was transportable, but this is a lot more complicated ,, the sacrifice of psi, as the 1750 is more 2 inch line jet and to weak for four inch,
      then comes the 3100, which comes in gasoline powered, not sure if it is available in electric,,
      Now bulk and weight come into play,, do I wait and spend twenty three grand for a truck mount Spartan. So any input will be of help ,, as I don't want to be huffing and puffing lugging any machine, in and out a building , all the while worry of scratching or denting something . So any input will be great.
      So by the way life is funny ,, we had BC Salad head ,, that would hit tread mill when he could in the house on his duty day ,,
      next we had ff - bilco doors - 5' 10- 260 - both go for stress test -- bc salad head fails and goes directly for stints,, bilco doors passes , everyone was in shock and thought the opposite, but so is life
      Anyway need suggestion for jet, was thinking start small and grow into it , sell and keep upgrading.

The only other machines I know that can do that will only punch a dime sized hole through the sludge and scale. I’m very impressed.... but only 3 jobs in. Hell the first job we couldn’t get a clog from two toilets coming into a tee upstairs. Snake would go in one flange out the other. Hopped up on the roof with my 102 and she went right down and opened it up in 3” pipe. Not even meant to do that size and first day on the job she did it. What do you think of the rigid machine? I like my K40, and my super vee, have done me well all these years, but always looking to buy tools to make my life easier! I always explain to the customer who has an issue like this with old lines, that they are better off taking care of it now rather than later. It really sucks for them you know having to spend allot of money to fix these old pipes, but usually they do it after I explain to them that it will run better in the long run and actually save them money on having to have these lines snaked all the time.

    Which is bigger battle or war?
    In a nut shell, battle is more of a physical combat, while war is more strategic. Battles are decided by various factors. The number and quality of combatants and equipment, the skill of the commanders of each army, and the terrain advantages are among the most prominent factors. A unit may charge with high morale but less discipline and still emerge victorious. This tactic was effectively used by the early French Revolutionary Armies.
    Weapons and armour can be a decisive factor. On many occasions armies have achieved victories largely owing to the employment of more advanced weapons than those of their opponents. An extreme example was in the Battle of Omdurman, in which a large army of Sudanese Mahdists armed in a traditional manner were destroyed by an Anglo-Egyptian force equipped with Maxim machine guns.
    On some occasions, simple weapons employed in an unorthodox fashion have proven advantageous, as with the Swiss pikemen who gained many victories through their ability to transform a traditionally defensive weapon into an offensive one. Likewise, the Zulus in the early 19th century were victorious in battles against their rivals in part because they adopted a new kind of spear, the iklwa. Even so, forces with inferior weapons have still emerged victorious at times, for example in the Wars of Scottish Independence and in the First Italo-Ethiopian War. Discipline within the troops is often of greater importance; at the Battle of Alesia, the Romans were greatly outnumbered but won because of superior training.
    Battles can also be determined by terrain. Capturing high ground, for example, has been the central strategy in innumerable battles. An army that holds the high ground forces the enemy to climb, and thus wear themselves down. Areas of dense vegetation, such as jungles and forest, act as force-multipliers, of benefit to inferior armies. Arguably, terrain is of less importance in modern warfare, due to the advent of aircraft, though terrain is still vital for camouflage, especially for guerrilla warfare.There are many battles fought in a war. Battles are between soldiers, while war is between countries or nations. Battles can be won and lost, but it may not determine the end of the War. Who said you may have won the battle but not the war?
    Frank Duncan, Extensive study of the war against Japan. To win a battle and lose the war means that you have used up so much in winning one battle that you have nothing left to fight on and win the war. This is usually referred to as a Pyrrhic victory. Who said we lost the battle but not the war?
    Quote by Charles de Gaulle: “France has lost a battle. A battle is a combat in warfare between two or more armed forces. A war usually consists of multiple battles. Battles generally are well defined in duration, area, and force commitment.[1] A battle with only limited engagement between the forces and without decisive results is sometimes called a skirmish.
    Wars and military campaigns are guided by strategy, whereas battles take place on a level of planning and execution known as operational mobility.[2] German strategist Carl von Clausewitz stated that "the employment of battles ... to achieve the object of war"[3] was the essence of strategy. A battle always has as its purpose the reaching of a mission goal by use of military force.[8] A victory in the battle is achieved when one of the opposing sides forces the other to abandon its mission and surrender its forces, routs the other (i.e., forces it to retreat or renders it militarily ineffective for further combat operations), or even completely annihilates the latter resulting in their deaths or capture. However, a battle may end in a Pyrrhic victory, which ultimately favors the defeated party. If no resolution is reached in a battle, it can result in a stalemate. A conflict in which one side is unwilling to reach a decision by a direct battle using conventional warfare often becomes an insurgency.

    Should have taken the end off the snake and see if you could have got thru with just the cable. The galvanized and cast iron are original, I wonder if the two hydraulic jacks holding the floor up are too? I bet you can't count all the code violations in that house on all your fingers and toes. You need a general super - vee with a 5/16 cable , never failed me and wore out 3 or 4 in my career.

    If this guy was on it he would have looked under the house 1st to know what he is in for with the galvee pipe and cast iron corrosion fittings. REPIPE TIME all the way. Those pipes will weigh 4 times what they were when new, filled with corrosion. Bid for new pipe, the 100 would get thru or you could have already have your bid done for the owner, to accept or reject. Get er done!!

    Bladder that bish, sell them on a re-pipe or spot repair. If it happens once, it'll happen again till you fix it. Get em open, and give them the option to fix it. Dont shop out of your own wallet, let them make the decision. How long were you on that job? Watched cause I was this curious about the flex shaft for indoor drains. Think I'm gonna stick with the k400, and my old trusty bladder.

    One handed drain cleaning with a drill for 1.5 pipes ok, I can see that. 4 inch mainline with a drill, your out of your mind!!!!! Give me a pair of Spartans all day long and twice on Sunday a 300 and 100!!! @@ChuckBarron Well, Chuck Barron, I have used both and on every kind of drain u can think of. By far the Spartan 100 and 300 are way more durable/dependable and out perform anything out there on the market. They cost more and they make me more money cause they do more what they do and do it faster. You can have the Rigid snake stuff, most of it is crap. Rigid = Extra Time on the job! Spartan does not. Spartan's are better in every way I can think of for a professional drain cleaner. The Rigid camera is another story and is much like the Spartan stuff, It makes me money!

      @@ChuckBarron Yo Chuck, 1st hand review of the new Rigid stuff, It sucks badly when put to the test and gets stuck in the 90's and basically sucks to use in the practical world of drain cleaning. Spartan drain cleaning machines save not only time and money but helps the tech not wear himself out through out the day. Sorry, Rigid drain cleaning stuff in my opinion needs serious design work to become effective on a Professional level. The only thing I really like is the Camera Scopes and locators that Rigid has, that's it. SPARTAN 300 and 100 are the "shiznit" of drain cleaning. I mean they rock the house in a BIG WAY, if you don't have one, GET ONE!!!! You will thank me later, they are well worth what you pay for them. Unlike Rigid shit drain machines, not even a close second in performance on the job.
