In my trip to Wakayama, my aim was to visit Tomogashima island. I wanted to see the island because it was featured in the anime Summer Time Rendering. I started my journey from Kada station. I walked through the town to the pier where I boarded a boat. The boat ride took about 30 minutes to reach the uninhabited island. Although there were not many buildings as shown in the anime, the island was still beautiful to explore.
Upon arriving on the island, I started my hike up to The Officer Dormitory Ruins and the 3rd Battery Ruins which were featured in the anime. After passing through the underground corridors of the ruins, I came out near the route to Mt. Takanosu Observatory. Then, I walked down to Jagaike Pond and climbed up to the Lighthouse. The Gate, another place from the anime, was also nearby.
After exploring the island, I returned to the pier and hiked to another observatory. There, I got the opportunity to fly my drone and capture stunning aerial views of the island.

Tomogashima boasts a colorful past as a hideaway for pirates and a secret military base during World War II. These days, Tomogashima provides an ideal setting for hiking, picnics, camping, or simply enjoying the fantastical backdrop of overgrown vegetation and abandoned military buildings. This is a must-visit if you're seeking an escape from the crowds and a touch of adventure off the beaten tourist paths in Japan.
I wonder if it was always called that...cause...the meaning of the name is rather...fitting I guess

this has everything really. so many environments and mood changes thruout these superlong vids. love how you actually start in the town and walk to the boat instead of starting at the boat/island already. that along with the cinematic drone interlude of the boat departure gives it a great additional sense of distance/adventure/scale. and ofcourse the interactions with environment and attention to details is great as usual. perfect immersion. think i watched like 90% of your channel by now, minute by minute, during my everyday cardio workouts over the years, not bored for a single second. and massive respect for staying genuine for so long and not selling out and not adding music and intro highlights and sub begging etc. pure content, very rare nowadays

This walk is really interesting!!
You take us through the wilderness of Tomogashima to discover military ruins, then the adventure continues to the pretty little white lighthouse of the island with a magnificent view of the sea! To finally find yourself in an abandoned village with a drink dispenser that no longer seems very functional! 🤣 (As far as I see, there was no green tea...)
The end flight gives us a breathtaking view of the island and its surroundings!

I got to live in Japan for almost a year this past year. I went to Tomogashima in the middle of July. Absolutely loved it.
Now that I'm home again, it's nice to see stuff like this.

Another wonderful walk. The transition with the aerial view is a moment that I really like, the view of the boat during the crossing is superb. I find the state of the ruins incredible, when I think it dates from the Meiji era, it's absolutely fabulous. A great discovery once again, thank you Mr Ramb😊😸👍
