MRTS can be stopped at park station itself. Beach station can be used as terminal for all Andhra based, Kolkata and north east trains. There are a lot of turns between beach and Egmore. Even up and down line come for express trains, speed cannot be increased.
Park has only 2 platforms and hence impossible to be a terminal station for MRTS. Take it from me. You will find express trains up line between Egmore and Beach and MRTS up line being the same . Express trains' down line from Beach to Egmore will be on the wrong side too.
Thank you for your very informative update. Work is slow and challenging. Land is a big constraint. Also since traffic is already running on 3 lines, work has to be done with caution. I understand priority now is to restore MRTS and then complete the 4th line. Are they installing a lift in the new FOBs? I understand Railway Board has taken a decision to instal lifts and escalators in FOBs wherever possible. Another issue wth suburban trains in all metro cities is the gap between platform height and EMU floor. Currently EMU floor is 4 ft above rail whereas platform height is 2.5 feet. In Chennai metro, platform height and floor height is almost same. You can make a video on this platform gap and denger it poses to commuters.
@@srirambalakrishnan8625 Thanks. May be once train service starts Lift facility might be installed as it takes more time. I think there is not enough space available for escalator facility i guess

My questions are even if the work will be completed by November, if there is going to be only one line between RBI and the beach station:- 1. Then, won't the frequency of the trains to and fro from velachery be hampered? The trains from beach going towards RBI will have to wait for the train going from RBI to beach to pass. 2. Before the work started, there were trains from velachery to arakkonam, avadi, thiruvallur, don't you think the resumption of these trains is not possible if one stretch is 1 line from RBI to beach.
Once MRTS train service starts only, we will know how they are going to manage MRTS train operation between Chennai Fort to RBI subway stretch. So we have to wait and see
Instead of doing all this and disrupting mrts services - southern railway could have just constructed a 4rth line from egmore terminal and connected it to d up line at chennai park or fort station of mrts
At this rate, with a very few labourers engaged here and there, could you please tell me how long will it take to complete not only the fourth track for main line, but also those two MRTS tracks and all platforms, foot over bridges, electric traction, ticket counters and finally the passenger’s amenities such as lights, fans, platform benches, tea shops etc.? I would say for your information that the gauge conversion of Beach - Tambaram 35 kilometers suburban lines were completed within three months in 2002.

1. When Chennai will have local fast trains at 120 kms/hr from point to point? Example - Chennai Beach to Pondicherry etc. 2. What's the problem in privatisation of railways if they can provide fast trains n better facilities? Of course, ticket price will increase. Whats the tuition fees per year in government medical college n private medical college in Tamil Nadu? In govt colleges, its around INR 19,000 per year n in pvt colleges, its around INR 17 lakhs to INR 22 lakhs per year. Chennai metro trains is using 2 tracks only and they are able to run trains in 5 minutes gap. But, Indian railway. It is worst in managing platform and tracks.
Their signalling system is different and fully automated. Metro networks are much smaller in size so they can afford to use advance systems. Which isn't practical to use in Indian railways.
Yes ,but they are finishing other side and starting here because this side track is not laid , also after laying tracks they will start this side. Base for it is done, you can see so work will be done fast.
The railways had no problem in compulsorily acquiring land and demolishing private residential buildings for extending the MRTS lines from Velachery to St Thomas Mount. The delay in that case, according to my understanding, was mainly due to litigation about the compensation amount to be paid to the house owners whose land was compulsorily acquired. One cannot understand why the RBI cannot be similarly compelled to give up the necessary land area for public good. Why should there be one rule for acquiring land from private citizens and another rule for government entities?
St Thomas Mount is recently developed residential area. So it's easy to just pay them off. But the neighbourhoods in Parris Corner and Park Town have many historic Buildings, including RBI building. It's not easy demolish or alter any building of historic importance.
@kannans7027 There is nothing historic about the RBI Bldg. It came up only a few decades ago. Heavens will not fall if a small portion of the rearside of the RBI Bldg is demolished for accommodation of the MRTS lines in the interests of lakhs of passengers. It is a matter of high statistical probability that, if only one track is used over a short distance of the busy MRTS lines, of a serious accident occurring due to failure of signals and/or the points which will have to be frequently changed.
