A bright, shining talent whose understanding of the tradition is evident in every line he plays, yet his voicings and harmonic balancing act is original and quite thrilling. Who dares to say that jazz is a dying art after hearing this exceptionally talented pianist?

      Cody, blue47er,
Yes, this young man is amazing. And you are both correct: jazz is NOT dying! Peace out.

This wood be a great prime time show on TV as opposed to looking at cadavers and figuring out who killed them. Instead was that a minor/ major chord?

new orleans somehow keeps on producing legends, no matter how much history has changed it... the spirit of jazz continues to evolve and fortner represents an especially roots-conscious reflection of modern sensibilities - love it so much

Musically cohesive, challenging, and interesting. His ideas, touch, voicings, time, drive, language.... (on and on). Genius.

I suspect our Creator put Mr.Fortner and a very few others in our midst to bring joy and light to what otherwise can be a joyless and grey existence in this world.
