He wasn't tempted, temptation ensues from a disparage of human will and Gods Will. "I come not to do my Will but the Will of He who sends me". Jesus was God becoming man, not man becoming God. Trying to become God is an affront to Him.

@@kingkoi6542you completely missed the point and all the while misinterpret scripture. The Gospels say that Christ was tempted with sin, but never succumbed to such temptations. Also, the movie itself is partially a portrayal of what would’ve happened had Christ not died on the cross, so if anything it’s meant to reaffirm one’s faith, not denigrate it.

From my experience, this movie deepened my faith. I had a wrong picture of Jesus, seeing him as a "superhero". This movie presented the opposite, which is equally off and wrong! However, it did help me to see the human aspect of the Lord Jesus to a much greater degree - which is an important part of understanding the mystery of the Gospel. It all made a lot more sense when I actually sat down and read the Bible! For that, I'm thankful for the movie.
    I hope that made sense!

Similarly, I notice that a lot of Jesus movie actors make the mistake of casting of all emotion for the sake of reverence - and portraying Jesus with a stock personality, but in doing so they miss the point that Jesus wasn't just fully God, he was fully man - experiencing emotions and reflecting more than just a stock personality to others.
Obviously this depiction isn't even close to how Jesus actually was, but as a depiction of a man struggling to walk according to the will of God - and living out a spiritual struggle, I find it kind of compelling.

@@anndds When I first watched the movie 5 years ago, it kindled a fire within me to know the true Christ, knowing that the movie was not an accurate representation (a disclaimer is given at the beggining of the movie). If I knew then what I knew now, I would probably have been pretty unhappy watching it, knowing just how off it was.
I guess you could say that the movie was the spark for me to find out more - it might seem obvious to most Christians, but, I never really thought of Christ as fully man and fully God before seeing the movie. I thought of Jesus as more of a "God-superman" that Christians worshipped. I was way off - the King came not to be served, but to serve!
For the spark and interest it gave me (and perhaps others) I am thankful. Right place and time for me to watch the movie, I suppose.

As a religious person, movie buff and Scorsese fan, it was a very interesting perspective on Jesus. Sure, some things were too much like the starting sequence where they portrayed him building crosses and helping with crucifixion. But as a movie buff I can see past that and keep watching the movie with a clear mind. It was refreshing to see a man not born with his divine goal but a man to discover his divine goal. The movie (and I suppose book) really humanizes Jesus and shows us that he overcame struggles we face day to day (sin). It shows confusion and uncertainty, as in this movie Jesus sometimes thinks he has to go to war. Such as the scene where he carries his axe to his apostles. But in the end, God intervenes and he is brought back to the righteous way. The love he preaches about. His real war is the great divine war. I also liked that in the end it shows what would have happened if Jesus had given in to Satan. This had me confused until I realized that it was also divine intervention. Well done, movie. Requires a mind free of pride to watch it.

My favorite scene in it is probably when Jesus confronts Paul after having long-since turned away from His purpose. Paul basically telling him that the idea of the Messiah’s sacrifice was, is, and always will be more impactful than whether or not the Messiah accepted His own fate - is what ultimately made the film work for me. Because unfortunately, the truth is that most people can only be shaken out of apathy via dramatic examples, such as radical acts of faith. And most people don’t want their images of perfection reduced to reality, either. As a believer, I think this film precisely examines the nature of man vs. the nature of God; imperfection vs. perfection. And how no matter what we might think we know, it was really Jesus’ sacrifice for everyone’s sins that sealed his reputation on Earth as the Savior with perfect faith. And I think Dafoe’s joyful delivery of, “It is accomplished,” proves that. He passed every test, and was made perfect on Earth as He is in Heaven.

this movie made me understand the point better than anything else, just my experience, i saw my struggles in this depiction of Christ.
i also want to say about your point about "Christ through striving created god", depends on how you view religion.
you can take it all as literally as possible and word for word as fact, or you can see that the wisdom of these books is in their teachings, what we can learn from them, what we can avoid to do, how to strive to be a better person, not by just being merciful like Christ at the start, for even when he returns he will judge and punish, what it gave us in terms of culture and the world we are in today was built on it; that above all is more meaningful than arguing about what's right and wrong when depicting Christ , blasphemous and non--blasphemous about Christ; or learn from this.
even Christ doubted god at one point. and who wouldn't if they were on a cross; what made him exceptional was he didn't run away.

As an evangelical Christian I would say this film being as objective as possible is a work of historical fiction in a way that Mel Gibson’s adaptation of Braveheart is to the actual William Wallace, there are some parts that are true and others that are distorted and anachronistic by nature. From a theological perspective I would say it’s not denying Jesus’ divinity and blasphemous in that way but more undermining is divinity and overplaying or exaggerating his humanity, making him appear perhaps a bit weaker and more insecure than he is in the gospels. I would say overall the Jesus of this film and the Jesus of the Bible and history (as I believe him to be) are 2 different characters or versions of him. Just like with the DaVinci Code that perhaps paints an alternate history or reality also of Jesus Christ and his disciples, no one should get worked up by a movie or a book, everyone has the right to their own opinion and beliefs and everything should be discussed in a civil dialogue like manner.

I grew up in the church, I was a teenager and I wanted to see the film for two reasons: First, to see if everything that was being said about it was true or just a scare tactic not to see it.
Secondly, how could I effectively discuss it without actually seeing the film? Plus, I was disturbed that some of the protests had a tinge of anti semitism.
I had one older church member insinuate that something must be wrong with me because of what I said. Later, if I gave my opinion on a issue, it was the same attitude from him. Obviously, I avoided him after that. He was a very unhappy man I later decided.
I did see the film, but it was hard to get through because it was a slow moving one to me.
It didn't harm me or my faith which is what a lot of people were saying that it would. However, I felt it was better for me to see it for myself so I could make an informed decision.

I believe far too many people overemphasize the divinity of Jesus while entirely overlooking and sometimes - though thankfully relatively rarely - even dismissing his truly admirable humanity; what made him such a resonant and influential figure in the first place. Even as an agnostic, this movie gave me so much more sympathy for Jesus and for the Christian endeavor on the whole. That Jesus himself struggled with sin, temptation and all the imperfect trappings of humanity does not undermine faith, it only serves to frame it more triumphantly; to frame it in a manner that allows us to be joyful of our existence even despite its clear and fundamental flaws.

The writings of Nikos Kazantzakis and Martin Scorsese's adaptation of it in The Last Temptation of Christ made an incredible impression on my belief system in terms of the "afterlife" and the whole purpose of this man called "Jesus" . My only regret with this film is that Scorsese didn't go far enough in telling the story of Jesus... that of a hybrid human being with alien DNA (Mary's immaculate conception) attempting to educate a small group of followers about the power of reason, empathy and compassion over instinctual fear, predation and territoriality. In the end, "Jesus" was an alien experiment focused on trying to accelerate human evolution along the path of reason and science but instead manifested into a monolithic organization called the Catholic church... and everything from the Crusades of the High Middle Ages to the Salem witch hunts of early America followed. What the aliens learned was that you can't accelerate human nature while humanity learned a codex (The Bible) about what it is to be an intelligent, caring human being (faith) in a world dominated by powerful but ignorant and greedy men (Gov't/corporations)

How many of you strain at the gnat and swallow the camel? There will be those who find this film blasphemous because they are all cowards who refuse to make the sacrifices of the Saints, sages and prophets, of the righteous. 70 years of worldwide massive, ubiquitous, Satanic corruption, fraud, lies, evil, murder, torture, rape, etc. in our most important institutions and professions: medicine, mental health, law, law enforcement, justice departments, news media, education and other industries. None of you recognized the red flags, none of you investigated? Your generations! Most all people in this world, contributing to these evils and endless numbers participating in them. None of you preached about it, none of you spoke up nor said a word? Who has lamented and repented for these evils? All nations have entered into them. Mankind has fulfilled the scriptures in negativity and failed to do the great works. Isaiah Chapter 34

Its quite amusing to hear some of these posts discussing the inaccurate portrayal of Jesus. If you are a Christian and believe this movie is telling a story that very likely never happened you are absolutely right - it simply posits a theory of what might have gone through Jesus' mind while he was in agony on the cross.
However , the bible is not exactly an accurate description of Jesus' life and deeds either. The only real 'evidence' of Jesus deeds and miracles lies in the gospels , none of which were contemporaneous with his life. The earliest gospel was that of Mark , written 70 years after Jesus' death , those of Mathew and Luke about 90 years and John's over 100 years after Christ's death. All of the accounts are based on third and fourth hand accounts of what happened with no eye witness testimony.
They contain no objective truth that is verifiable and were written by people who may very well have had their own agenda. By the way , the gospels authors were anonymous , the names Matthew ,Mark, Luke and John were invented constructs. In terms of what 'actually' happened - both the bible and the movie share an equally viable version of events.

Entire gospels that dealt with his younger years that told the story of a very human, conflicted young man somewhat at odds with his destiny were left out. The idealized portrayals of him are one-dimensional and utterly boring. The story of the MAN and his very human life is infinitely more interesting and makes his ultimate destiny that much more meaningful.

He would not experience loss of faith, as Christ knew what His mission was from the very beginning.
He is one nature out of two, the Divine and Human, neither of which mixed nor mingled with the other, but are two pieces that form the whole of God Incarnate. Christ fully shared our humanity in all but sin, which is not found in the ideal human.
Christ was tempted by the devil, but He was not tempted within Himself. And that’s what the movie blasphemes upon.

“That is a blasphemy that gives rise to a religion” Well, Christianity is not about religion. It is about relationship with Christ. This whole blasphemous reversed man made story that is WEAK has never given any HIGHLIGHT to the Whole Christianity. EVER. Only The Trinity that could do that. And if you still want to give HIGHLIGHT to the religion? Which religion you made? A false and DECEIVED Christianity made by you based on your doctrines and how your vile heart wants it to be taken ‘til the end? Blasphemous. Still, blasphemous and misdirecting to those who do not believe in Christ.

:When they lose their sense of awe,
    people turn to religion.
When they no longer trust themselves,
the begin to depend on authority".
    - Lao-tzu
and how right he was, 500 years before the sage Jesus walked the Galilean countryside.
What are religions? Representations of collective psychoses, caused by evolutionary events a given population had no control over. In my opinion the possible shift from living in harmony "with" our natural surroundings to the manipulation of those surroundings, beginning with agriculture. In other words Lao-tzu had it right.
That such a departure from 'living in the way' (in balance with Nature) would cause lingering anxieties is probably an understatement. We've observed similar depressions in caged, wild animals. Like it or not, living under the yoke and control of rulers inevitably causes similar responses in populations. Studies of your 'saviors'' chronically suppressed peasant population indicate that undercurrent levels of depression were common among that population who had no hope for improvement.
Along comes a spiritual guy that no one has heard of for most of his approximately 30 years. Where had he been? No, he wasn't 'teaching at the Temple' at age 12, not having grown up as a Mamzer and possibly illiterate. And if he did, what did he teach? After all, scripture claims that the folks at the Temple were completely amazed about this wisdom. Some speculation has it that he traveled to the Far East, others contemplate that the Essenes influenced his education. It's all speculation.
Regardless of background, he may have felt a compassion to help those who had a better chance to fit through the eye of a needle than rich people would. During the politically volatile times of his day, that was clearly a risky thing to do. You cannot correct an evolutionary misstep humanity undertook ten-thousand earlier when humans agreed to subvert and let rulers control their destiny i.e. the beginnings of already mentioned collective psychoses and what can be considered 'the Fall from Grace'.
And - we're still falling, but ever faster. None of our favorite political geniuses will slow that fall, and lately it sure seems that we'll hit bottom before long. You can only offend natural balance for so long before recoil eliminates us. Even Jesus didn't address that issue, which to me renders his mission partly in vain. However, he had important things to enlighten us with, such as to find 'the kingdom' within, not 'out there' coming over the horizon or in a special building.
Hence, those who believe he is god incarnate and their savior, that too takes place 'within', in your mind and yours alone. That becomes dangerous when cults, dogmas and ever larger groups, casts, ranks and leaderships develop, fertile ground for collective psychoses, as we see them in the news every day - all in the name fo one's favorite deity. .
So was the film worth it? Yes, because we all have inner challenges to overcome, just as the messiah did, although to a much smaller degree.
