- Vinyasa Yoga Flow to King Pigeon - 45 Minutes - Intermediate with Advanced Options
This mindfully paced strong intermediate-level class leads to the pinnacle pose King Pigeon. You may find it helpful to have a block and a strap. We'll use the strap to access King Pigeon. I do spend time breaking down the peak pose.
Some of the other poses here are:
-Dolphin Split with optional Forearm Stand
-Side plank variation
-Puppy pose
-Handstand and Chin Stand vinyasas
-Half split or optional full split
I wrote a quick blog post about the meaning of closed circuits in yoga. The little "i" in the top right will take you there if you are on a desktop.

"Hi Leigha, I did your first class again (forearm stand) and I feel sooooo good now. Thank you!
I decided to do the whole series one by one again. It has been around 52 classes already, so it will take me some time.
Good on you!"

"After the shavasana and the short meditation in the end, I got up off the mat and I experienced an incredible feeling of lightness, as if i was light as a feather, thank you."

The class itself made me feel peaceful and as I was listening to the sounds of the birds between your words and watching the top of the trees, it even intesified my feeling of blissfulness and peace.. I finished when the sun was setting down and I was listening to the frogs and birds while taklng shavasana. Thank you for another amazing class.
"I feel grateful as I am improving so much with your guidance. I can feel open in my shoulders, thoracic spine as never before, leg behind head feels easy and slowly slowly I can do king pieon for rhe first time in my life (just on one side). I do not even attend any yoga classes anymore as I just love doing yoga at home and your guidance is the best for me anyway (I do yoga for several years but your classes make a big difference. and I love you make them in accessible way, I never feel any strain… you can teach and prepare and open body with an ease and grace). "
"Hello Leigha!
First of all, a big thank you for the chin-stand themed practice. It was intense, I will definitely be coming back to it,… once my pride recovers!! It is a struggle for me.
Just did Paradise and Grasshopper… soooo amazing, I finally really feel how incredible and energizing back bends are. Huge smile on my face when I kicked over from the wall.
Thank you again."
"Hey Leigha, I just completed your newest class, Paradise. I feel like I’m on cloud nine. The shavasana in the end felt so blissful. The sensation of bliss so….tangible, it felt like it was sloshing and spreading around in my body, gently tingling and glittering. I was lying on my mat with a big grin of contentment slowly appearing on my face, couldn’t help it. I’m very grateful. Sending my love to you and all the yogis practicing with you."
"I just did Open Hearted, BEAUTIFUL practice, feeling so open and accepting of loving energy built up in my heart. Thank you Leigha!"

@@LeighaButler working on the hand flip… any tips? 👍😊🙏
excited to come back to this and see if I can take the focus out of lower back even more!
Loved this Leigha. King Pigeon is a pose I don't really work on. Took advice from one of the previous comments and did a longer warm up, then had a little practice at your tutorial before starting the class. Strong and slow and will take a lot of practice. Thank you so much for this beautiful class.
I love these 45-60 min flows! Your timing, instructions, and even sighs are SO perfect and motivating!
I'd very much like to see the flow that prepares for the headstand. Thanks for your great videos! I always wait for them.
Your practices are always so calm and deepening, your voice warm, your poses excellent! thanks for your wonderful videos!

This was magic and I feel like I'm gonna cry. My body and my mind feel so much better now, I have been run ragged working crazy hours for three weeks and tonight begins multiple glorious days for myself. This class was the best way to shake off the work tension and to enter the relaxed space of a mini vacation. Thank you for making such a delicious, challenging, and fully-considered class. Absolute perfection.
+Dulcinea Rattet magical words here. thank youuu

I am in love with this flow! Thank you!!
Hurrrra, yahooo. Simply magical. In the third year of my yoga practice I was able to keep pincha out of the wall! However, with just one leg straight up but still for me is a great progress.
Out dogs must be family. My Belmondo is exactly the same like yours.
Regards, A
Awwwwh! My guy is a rhodesian ridgebecack / lab mix as far as I can tell. And he’s getting older now!! Glad u enjoyed 😊
Amazing practice, just what i was looking for!!
Really enjoyed this. Thankyou
Great practice again, thank you for sharing. Personally I think that the pigeon is a very hard posture and when you add quadriceps to it, it's even harder, so these poses are very helpful, thank you!:)
Thank you, Martina.
Your heavenly guidance give me both pleasure and chills. Thank you for for sharing!

Hi Leigha I've just finished this beautiful practice of yours and have to admit it was amazing. I'm experienced yoga practitioner and I thought I might call myself advanced however after this practice I've realized that there's plenty of space for an improvement. I want to say that I thoroughly enjoyed this sequence working towards King Pigeon and I'll definitely revisite this video and as well as your other videos, as I just subscribed to your channel 😀 Well done and keep up the good work your doing 👏. Namaste ✌ & 💕

Love the flow. some poses were a little too hard for me, maybe I'm not quite intermediate. the video got me hooked though, i kept trying, 3 times. I'm not as flexible as you clearly, can't do the splits and i'm not ready for dolphin straight up yet either. i look forward to attempting more of these flows
Thanks Leigha, this flow was amazing. I really resonate with your style and asana choices xo

nice moves, thanks
Hermosa clase y tu perro también. Namasté compañera
I love love love this practice! I've done it twice now thank you so much for sharing. The way you teach brings me so much deeper into the poses than I am usually able to go on my own. I have a question about king pigeon. While we had the arms behind the head holding the strap, you mentioned "kick into the strap with the foot to send the chest forward" (LOVED THAT it made a world of a difference!) ... do we keep that active tension kicking back as we walk the hands toward the foot or does the foot relax toward the head as the hands eventually grab?
*Thank you!*
LOVE.
amazing as always
namaste
If you could do more hip and hamstring opening before going into the splits move that’d work better for me
Hi leigha thanks but i cant do all pose handsstands my body and mine i m not feel ready ...maby it more trainer i need and true confiar more
hi, thanks
LOVE YOU thank you for this one hips are so tight on me !! do you have a hip opener video?
+Hippie Spirits i do! ruclips.net/video/c_UJTe6y7EI/видео.html
How long does it take for the back to open up enough to do deep backbends? I want to get there :)
+Melody Idol If you're practicing 3+ times/week, developing real warmth every time, and being very careful not to overdo it, you will see a difference within weeks. The deeper backbends could take 6 mos - 5 years depending on various things. Think of opening the front body more than the back body, and incorporate shoulder/triceps opening to assist the process. Have fun in every moment. 👌🏾
Awesomeness
Could you do a 1 hour flow that focuses on middle splits and handstands (:
@2:00 Your dog wants to join the class 😂❤
Thank you for sharing this practice (and all the others--I'm working my way through your library and I love your teaching style more and more with each one!). Do you have any advice for how I can work that back leg to bend in king pigeon? As soon as I reach back to draw the foot forward and bend the knee, my quad (rear leg) starts to cramp up. I intend to just omit advancing the pose for now but curious if you've seen that before?
+Megan Dark The cramping is common and goes away. It sounds like your hamstring isn’t totally used to bending and squeezing in that particular way, so keep doing it in as many configurations as you can dream up. Stand at a wall and pull your heal to your bum; do dance pose; try grabbing your foot from lunge instead of pigeon; try kicking your heel to your butt fifty times; when that becomes easy, try holding a block or smthng like it to your butt with just the strength of your hammy and heel; drink a ton of water before you practice and breathe through the cramping if it’s not too intense; be patient and slow about it - a little every day/practice. Downdog is the perfect stretch once the cramping happens. It really does go away, so keep it up. Stay in touch and share how it’s coming along!
Oooo wonderful! Just the encouragement I needed to overcome the fear. And so many great options to work through. Many, many thanks Leigha. I wonder if you've considered starting a Patreon account? I would happily subscribe to a paid yoga service offered by you :)
