Mass Effect 3 - Ending Movie Comparison - All the Colors

- Watch and compare the various ending movies of Mass Effect 3.
Mass Effect 3's ending movies reuse most of the same movie clips outright or are just a recolored version. I've pieced together the endings so that the reused clips run side by side to empathize how similar they are.
From Left to Right, the endings are as follows:
Destroy Good, Destroy Bad, Destroy Vaporization
Control Good, Control Bad
Synergy Good (there is no bad version of this)
Bioware's poor attempt at an ending to this outstanding series is a huge let down. It is almost universally agreed by gamers that the endings are not consistent with or are worthy ending to the Mass Effect Trilogy. Let Bioware know that they need to fix this lazy ending.
An interesting read on how the ending let down the fans:
www.gamefront.c...
Music:
Mass Effect 1 - Victory
Mass Effect 1 - Vigil
"Stop! Who would use the Crucible must answer me these questions three, ere the end of the game he see."
"Ask me the questions, glowing abomination! I am not afraid!"
"What... is your name?"
"Commander Shepard of the Normandy!"
"What... is your quest?"
"To stop the Reapers!"
"What... is your favourite colour?"
blue! no wait! ahhhhh.....
"How do you know so much about Reapers?"
"Well, you have to know these things when you're a commander, you know."
Found this today, and its pure gold
Green
Blue! No...
Ahhhhh!
So if I'm color blind I can only see 1 ending?
That's why as a colorblind i was fcking disapointed by the only ending i had at first xD
@@roidestrolls4934 are you color blind?
no- even if you aren't color blind you only see one ending
Nah only 2
Why? Because 1 is orange and the other is blue with are colors that can be seen universaly regardless if you are color blind or not they will always be different from one another
Fun fact thats why portal uses these as their primari color
2 destroy vaporization is different enough
Catalyst: There is always another solution.
Commander Shepard: Which one?
Catalyst: The colour you prefer.
If you are colour blind than there is only 1 ending.
"There is always another solution. But you still have to choose from the three solutions that I feel would work best. No, no other options, you must placate the ancient space gods."
Might as well have put a screen that says: Pick a color
what's funny is if they didn't differentiate them by color you would bitch about them even more lol
Reminder that after blowing up all the Mass Effect gates. All of the alien fleets are now stranded at earth and the entire galaxy is now a collection of isolated colonies and space stations doomed to forever be without contact or communication with one another.
Suckymacworthless But of you choose to control the reapers they are rebuilding the mass relays.
EDIT: Ok, I was wrong this happens only in the extended cut endings - the fixed endings.
That's the whole point, I think.
Suckymacworthless I know, two years ago, but I like to think that the species of the galaxy somehow reverse engineered the mass relays like the protheans did
actually,in all endings except the worst mass relays are just damaged and can be repaired. Communication broken not completely, but only for some time
"Destroy vaporization" happens if your war assets are low enough. It destroys the reapers and vaporizes everyone on earth, where the "bad" and "good" ones only destroy the reapers.
Only on earth?
@@yol_neverywhere.
Bioware: "Ah yes, 16 different endings. We have dismissed that claim."
- KID- Tell me another story about the shepard
- MAN- Did you download the DLC?
- KID - No....
- MAN - Then go to bed.
But our choices were supposed to matter!
It does matter, you get to pick which color :D
rythmjc3 xD which instagram filters...
kenshila So after spending hundreds of hours making decisions that reflect how you would handle every situation, share in the disappointment as your 3 games worth of choices boil down to which Instagram filter gets pasted over the ending xDDDDD
***** Came from Honest Trailer lol
not because apparently when Bioware was writing a dignified and epic ending in which your decisions made after millions of hours thinking and choosing your options that turned you 100 percent broke the dominant finger with which they wrote and could not write anything , so they decided to make the ending "Commander Shepard choose your favorite color"
Godchild: Shepard, which color do you prefer?
16 different endings they said...
+Rnngod There are actually 21 different endings depending on you Effective Military Strength... You can see them and their aftermaths here: www.ign.com/wikis/mass-effect-3/Endings
yep 21, VIRTUALLY THe Very same on 95 % ending with just a minor tweaks
Effective Military Strength, The worst invention made and more for the multiplayer part in my opinion, they could have handled it in many possible ways but nope.
@@paolagarcia3009 so true, i absolute hate the EMS/War assets system even in legendary edition
Everyone seem to hate the 3 ending choices but personally i despise how the war assets works
Still pisses me off
amen brother I am with you
its been 5 years and I've still never forgiven them, haven't bought another bioware game since, and laughed heartily watching andromeda fail
I today in the year 2020 almost 2021 and I have not forgiven them, I just hope with great hope that the new ME is the solution to what they did and they do it well.
@@paolagarcia3009 Mass Effect 4 the Apology?
@@carlblankschaen4103 nope at least that or has something to do with the end that should have been the trilogy and follow it so long after and if they are going to put andromeda that does not end both worlds or both galaxies a nonsense out of nowhere.
Maradeur Shields...never forget!
Destroy: Red-Colored Explosion, Shepard Dies, Mass Relay Destroyed, Normandy Crashes
Control: Blue-Colored Explosion, Shepard Dies, Mass Relay Destroyed, Normandy Crashes
Synthesis: Green-Colored Explosion, Shepard Dies, Mass Relay Destroyed, Normandy Crashes
LOL typical EA rushing games
+rythmjc3 Hey, you're missing the one where Shepard actually lives. See, not rushed at all!
+jokuihmehyyppa That last part is a cheap move though, doesn't explain how the hell he/she lived when achieving full military asset with red color explosion.
rythmjc3
well, I wasn't being all that serious with my comment ;) It was a cheap move and just another one of those things they just rushed to make before calling it a day.
+jokuihmehyyppa Haha I see ~
WRONG let me correct you on a fact you just steamrolled over which MIGHT explain how come you have the inaccuracy. in the RED ENDING DESTROY which you accomplish what you set out to do IF you have 100% GAW Shepard LIVES you see her(in my case) take a breath at the end this also needs sufficient military readiness but since you made it to the end I am gonna assume you are skilled enough to not have screwed that part up.feel insulted FINE but there is a way to have one that Shepard LIVES.oh yes one other thing EA may have taken into account colour blindness which is WHY the star child points out which DIRECTIONS to go and why the visuals are more than just red blue or green.
I'm actually colourblind and the colour was STILL the most defining thing about each ending.
I just love the radically different endings bioware took the effort to make. I mean red, green, or blue. How much more different could you get?
Yellow and magenta
I was happy with my ending. Then I saw the other endings. And i was like.
You've got to be kidding me.
I kinda like the ending itself but the fact that the different endings are just one ending in different colours is a fucking joke.
This is what happens when the writers get really really stoned.
Who else just typed "three different colored endings" on Google after watching the Subverse trailer?
VARIED WIDELY DIFFERENT ENDINGS
but there is the same point Bioware sank alone with the end of its epic and incredible trilogy in the ME world
My favorite part in the entire ME series was when the beams turned a different color.
And this is why EA Games has won 2 consecutive "Worst Company in America" awards for the last two years and is in the running for a third. EA pushes a game out unfinished and you get the same ending no matter what you did... they learned nothing from KOTOR2 when Obsidian screwed that game up. If I see an EA logo on a game, I am not spending a dime on it. Screw EA games and everything they stand for. They promised us change, they released Battlefield 4 without any quality control... DO NOT PURCHASE EA titles.
Raven Strahd There are companies with death squads that murder people around the world but EA is the worst company because “muh vidya games” What a fucking joke. There are way worse companies that EA
what flavour ending would you like? Strawberry, Vanilla or Mint?
That day, when my love for Bioware games died suddenly... -.- Now its 2019 and this still brings back all the disappointment.
This video is the best. Showing all three types with all their variation side-by-side, amazing!
I find it interesting that in the Control endings, neither the Citadel 'nor the Mass Relays blow up..
excellent video man, here we can se the "differences" of each ending.
Still a better love story than Twili.....wait no it isn't.
yes, yes it is.
Not if someone decides to make a crossover fanfic.
The romances in each game are a lot better than the love story in Twilight.
artman40 DON'T YOU PUT THAT CURSE ON MASS EFFECT!!!!!!!!
The only difference I noticed was between the Control Good and Control Bad. In Control Good, the soldier rejoices when the Reaper leaves. In Control Bad, he doesn’t. I wonder if this suggests that Shepard might not be a “good” or “nice” ruler of the galaxy?
This is like the game asking you if you want different endings, you say yes, and the game gives you color filters for your TV.
Finally picked this up used. The entire London sequence is just a disaster, nothing about it was thought out. You know what is fun? Fighting off 6 of these massive guys all at once! And then a few of the shrieking bitches at once as well! Make sure not to use up all your medi-gel! Ugh. Can tell all the talent left the studio before this was finished.
ThePoiuytrewq232 I used them in the final mission as well. Tali never stayed alive. Was hoping to use her skill that levitated people and it worked in small groups, but when the tougher enemies showed up she was out.
Exactly the same here, picking her up guzzled too much medigel. Garrus was a useful team mate but wasn't a tank. Sure sniping works for the waves of lower tier enemies. But how are you expected to take down the screeching bitches and brutes,
the brutes are a joke with piercing armor, the banshees go down with incendiary ammo pretty quick
James is a much better squad mate for this last mission.
To be honest the best way to play the last fight on priority earth is to hold down in the two buildings adjacent to the rocket batteries and rush both of them once the prompt comes up
I want to say that the author of this video did a wonderful job. Thanks for sharing it.
EA "Assuming creative control"
BioWare "OH SH!T"
Ya, I agree. Basically what we need is not a 'new' ending, but an epilogue.
BTW, I like how some spaceships and marines can get that red wave to not destroy everything
meh, i thought they were ok, not good, but ok. the piano that plays is good though
John Loukis it was meant to be that way, seeing as you just "died" (i do believe that the IT is correct) to make those endings happen.
stormreaper7 Yeah, the relays blowing up could even be a metaphor from Shepard's social disconnection from the rest of the universe.
Christ this still annoys me a little.
This is just the laziest shit.
His name was Marauder Shields... never forget
"green ending - mixes tech with organic"
OK how does it do that again? what is there to mix? you don't just go poof and your a cyborg.
I'm not quite familiar with ME lore, but I believe the reconstructed Shepherd is partly a cyborg, so, the crucible reads Shepherd's molecular structure, and use it as a base pattern to fire a molecular reconstruction beam that reconstructs all life, synthetic and organic, to be a cyborg.
Ну концовка так себе конечно, но всё равно игра настолько крута, эпична и так много позитивных эмоций подарила, что это перевешивает любую концовку... на крайняк каждый кому концовка не нравится категорически - может придумать для себя свой конец истории.
That doesn't alter the disturbing fact the ending from a overall story-arch prospective simply put didn't fit in very well. That is what makes this ending so unlikable. It isn't the worst ending in history, but if you have come to love and understand the story it doesn't work very well. The game is a very logical indepth sci-fi the ending is confusing and isn't thought provoking
cyka bled
the picture at the very end is perfect! it looks like the face of every player in the world when they saw any of these endings. thumbs up for Bioware though, looks like we might get a completely overhauled ending come summer!
The only real thing wrong with the endings is the bits immediately after the player makes the choice. The whole game (as said by Gabe at PennyArcade) is an 'ending' in its own, and there was so much amazing closure provided. It's such a shame that the last hurdle was a spit in the face of everything.
I think the Synthesis ending is the most natural Paragon decision, since it's always about the greater good, and felt very emotionally compromised afterwards.
That was really trippy seeing all 6 endings at the same time, it's crazy how much they are similar
Wow...so many "choices" and meaning across all three games. I heard the ending was bad but now I know how bad it truly was. Thanks for sharing.
I love how Joker looks behind himself like he's driving a fucking Mazda.
I'm actually impressed with what they did. It's not just a color change, it's a sequence made ambiguos enough to be taken as 3 different outcomes by just adding some minor touches. To design such a sequence is not an easy task.
If it were a Visual Novel, you would just write a different ending and you're good to go. But it is a 3D game: if you want to design and program a whole different animation for each outcome, you're gonna need a lot of time.
Story-wise yes they are very different as far as what happens to the galaxy but visually it's not very rewarding.
I don't love it but I don't hate it either, it's just pretty meh to leave so many questions unanswered. There are are too many hypothetical theories that fans made to justify it, I see what they were going for but they missed by a long shot.
And using the Catalyst's distorted logic, I decided to teleport off the Citadel into another dimension at the last second with my famous catchphrase: "Better Luck Next Time."
0:50 God.. Don't you just love that part of the song?
Man, I remember getting the vaporization ending and being fucking confused and SO pissed off.
Now that I see them side by side I can see what the UK board was thinking. Those endings are quite thematically different. The top row has a red theme, the middle row has a blue theme and the bottom one has a green theme.
There's a vaporisation end?!
Damn, wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it.
To emphasize his point. Not only are all six basically identical, but it doesn't matter how prepared you were. That's why he showed six: one for each possible "ending," complete with different preparation for each one.
All they needed was a purple, an orange, and a yellow and we'd have had a damn color wheel of options to choose our "endings" from.
The buildings get destroyed but it seems as though with control option the citadel gets saved as it just closes up. While the other endings the citadel is destroyed.
I'd love it he uploaded an updated version of this.
Colors stand for something, Red for Fire, Blue for an EMP, and Green for grass to grow over the ruble and shit that has happen to the planets, it's for them to go back to their original form.
Always remember this rule of visual storytelling: show, don't tell. I repeat: show, don't tell. Bioware forgot that and look where it got them.
So, here's the difference:
Good: The soldiers are happy
Bad: The soldiers are confused
Really bad: The soldiers are dead
in destroy good and destroy bad, the difference is in the scene with the reaper machines fighting the ground troops, after the Reapers fell to the ground, in good, the troops raise their guns in cheer, in bad, they just stand and stare.
remember the reapers aren't just in the sol system but across the whole galaxy so the catalyst sent the blast from the crucible through the relays to send the it across the galaxy so that all reapers were affected by the explosions weather it be to destroy, synthesis, or control.
Haha I always wondered that myself. Maybe he's looking at a screen but it's hard to not assume he is somehow looking behind him.
Ah yes "multiple endings", we have dismissed that claim.
Make a 10 hours version of this... now THAT would be a sanity / endurance test.
the catalyst says that the energy released from the crusible would destroy the relays regardless of your choice.
and even with the cut it looks like they blow up.
you see them become damaged but you dont see them blow up like in the other two endings
i see, would MP then be a requirement for this extra scene where you see what SEEMS to be Shepard surviving? that famous 'breathing' scene?
I am so, so sorry Mr. Shields. I wish I had known.
Thanks Kaidan, it means a lot.
You were right on what people will think about you. I don't know what's so great about the Crayola ending.
But the developers has confirmed in the destroy Shephard lives, as their slowly making another mass effect now while also doing dragon age
Harbringer to player: "Human, you've changed nothing"
Wow. So my choices really do matter. I get to see weather or not Big Ben stays in tact. Thanks Casey.
One reprogramed the reapers but caused damage on the buildings and the infrastructure of earth, the other one reprogramed the reapers without causing further damage on it.
The control ending was shorter, so he paused the video while the green and red caught up.
To be honest, all mass effect endings were similiar:
Mass Effect: Council saved: Blue planet. Council died: Red planet.
Mass Effect 2: Collector Base destroyed: Normal explosion, blue star. Collector Base saved: Blue explosion, Red star.
You better start stacking those war assets if you want to save the Big Ben tower!
Diferences between endings: #1:color, #2 1 case of vaporization, #3 big ben still standing, # reapers fall down or fly away......this is not the 16 unique endings we were promised.
okay i know that. thats why i said the destruction of a relay is the only thing that can cause an explosion large enough to affect the entire system. the blast from the crucible affects the relays causing it to blow up but with the energy of the blast. that's why the explosions are different colors. not to show how pretty it is but to show the nova has been affected to change the explosions which would only impact the reapers.
Not to mention my space hamster, Minsc is going to be pissed (from Baldur's Gate if you didn't know the hamster was an easter egg).
Idk if this is like important, but if you look closely you can see that for the destroy and control good endings the soldiers cheer, but for the synthesis one they don't...
What's worse is that Bioware PROMISED sixteeen different endings, that we wouldn't pick for ourselves. They said that our past decisions would choose the outcome of the ending. Not a final choice.
The last time I beat it, I chose destroy. It started off red, but when it got to Earth, the red had become green. Them, on the Normandy, it looked like all the red pixels had been replaced with blue. And the explosion was still green. I turned off my tv, then turned it back on. This normally fixes any coloring glitches cause by my tv. However, the colors where still screwy. But, when the Normandy crash scene occurred, the colors returned to normal. I
And the FORTH ending, DO NOTHING wait for it and see
Or, shoot the kid. Aka. the trigger happy ending.
If the Reapers reap the milky way alone every 50000 years do you think other species in a close by galaxy could see the relays blowing up with their tech?
Although not new, the ending might provide more cut scenes in the *Sheperd Survives* option and we get to play him again in Mass Effect 4 *cross fingers
Also the fact that the paragon/renegade options were backwards at the end, and the way Shepard acted...completely unlike himself. I'm really thinking the whole ending Shepard was indoctrinated, and choosing to destroy synthetics was the only way to fight the indoctrination. That would mean that the catalyst (star kid) didn't exist at all, so what then destroyed the Reapers and the relays? Maybe Shepard himself was the Catalyst....
yeah if you choose control then you become the catalyst and since the catalyst is the citadel, the citadel remains intact and the mass relays arent destroyed, only damaged
In Control (Bad), Big Ben is destroyed, and the soldiers don't cheer when the Reapers leave.
I wouldn't complaint about shepard's death if the ending actually made sense, and if the heroic death saved the galaxy, but instead your options are: a) mess up the galaxy in a blue way. b) mess up the galaxy in a green way. c) mess up the galaxy in a red way.
Your right, its not the same as making everyone a husk, its the same as making everyone a reaper, considering thats essentially what reapers are as you can see from what happened to the collonists on the collectors base.
It's not like they didn't have money. They launched DVDs into space as part of the ad campaign before the initial release. Now that means only they had so much money that they couldn't decide what to do with.
After you choose green ending and Joker lands on this unknown planet you can see leafs with some kind of a integrated circuits on it, also Joker, EDI and the other crew members are covered with this green 'marks' showing that they are no longer different (synthetics and organics) but exist as new, combined form of life. And that thing with blue ending... hard to say, but the mass relays are reapers tech so any way of affecting them may include destroying all of their creations...
Casey wrote the ending himself and didn't let the writers do it. And as a guy who has a job that deals with customers on a daily basis i have to say the customer is NOT always right. Some times they get an entitled attitude and expect everything to be given to them on a golden platter while acting like assholes. That's how some fans were acting after this happened. I wouldn't want to fix something for people like that. Thank God for RetakeMassEffect for acting like a civil human being
The only differance is in Synergy where everyone is glowing green, the others are "normal". :S
Sad but true. You just have to add "artistic vision" and "you just didn't get it".
I can only imagine how pissed the color blind must be right now.
@Crosscade the fact that you can make a video like this, summarizing all the endings in less than 3 mins, shows how little effort Bioware put in it... i really hope the indoctrination theory is correct or that they change this - i'd hate to see one of the greatest sci-fi series ever shoot itslef in the foot, and bled to death like this
*puts on sunglasses*
wow, what a wonderful ending.
where are the rest? you only showing the one?
why did you recolor the-oh....
remember, the Relays were destroyed by the Citadel in ME3. The Citadel controls the relays, so it was a controlled destruction (also the blast wave is the signal wave, just like the one the Citadel sent out at Earth).
This is different than in Arrival, because in Arrival you smash a F'ing asteroid into the relay! A small scale comparison would be the difference between scuttling a ship, and smashing a cruise missile into it!
