Hideki Kamiya the creator of Õkami was apart of PlatinumGames, the same company that developed the Bayonetta Series. This year he left PlatinumGames and this announcement was the first project he was apart of after leaving it.
The biggest news from this is not only did he leave PlatinumGames but that Capcom revived Clover Studios (now named Clovers). CloverStudios is responsible for producing games like Okami, Viewtiful Joe, and the super underrated God Hand.
Also he said in an interview in 2018-19 that he would be happy to do an Okami 2, and the art director said the same, so he clearly left Platinum for that

Capcom said recently they intend to revive old dormant franchises so is quite possible, although they should just give Kamiya all the freedom in the world and let him cook whatever he wants
Never too late to play the original, there is an HD remaster on just about every modern system and currently it's on sale (at least on Steam) to coincide with this announcement. There's a reason everyone is going so crazy, it's one of the best games ever made.

Okami is a masterpiece of a game released back in 2006 for PS2, based on Japanese folklore and mythology, that is distinctive for its visuals which combine elements of woodcutting, watercolors, and cell shading.
Shame on you! Na, i am kidding, it is now on sale in Steam, if you love Zelda Windwaker you probably will love Okami too. (To me is my favourite game ever, because it is a little less Nintendo fanservice and more Japan Mythology fanservice)
