Gateway Classic Cars St. Louis is proud to have for sale this 1977 Chevrolet Monza. The Monza is a sporty v8 subcompact car that believe it or not, is derived from the not so sporty Vega. The Monza shares the same wheelbase and width with the vega but tats just about it. Originally, GM had plans to produce the car with the famous Wankel rotary engine, but due to the emissions crisis in the 70's, the idea was scrapped and they went with a 305ci V8. This particular Monza Spyder has been upgraded to feature a larger and more modern 350ci Chevy motor. Behind the engine is a 700r4 transmission and a newer Auburn posi trac rear end with 308 gears. As a whole, this car is in fantastic shape. The silver paint has a great shine to it and shows very minimal wear. The interior also shows minimal wear and all of the options are in working order. The AC is not currently working but it has most of the parts still there. No matter what your plans are with this car, you wont be disappointed. This is a fantastic cruiser that can go from the car shows to the back roads and accel at both. Most of the Monzas have been cut up and tubbed for drag racing so don't pass up the chance to own a clean and unmolested example like this. Give us a call today to learn more.

My brother and I had a '75 2+2 4 cylinder in the 80's. I sure wish we had taken care of that car. Watching this brings back lots of good memories.

sweet I had the same car with the 305 when I bought it the 305 was bad so I built a 355 small block turbo 350 transmission and put in it those cars many of them I'm not sure if they all did came with positraction rear end and quiet things fun to drive.

They say muscle cars died in 1973, but it wasn't very hard to turn these into the very definition of a muscle car: "typical 2 door, rear wheel drive, high horsepower V-8 (after some modifying in this case) and sporty looks and graphics packages". I knew a guy who stroked the 305 in his to 331 and was getting 425+ hp and over 400 ft. lbs. of torque on pump gas @ a little over 10:1 compression. That thing was quick!

At least, by then this Monza hatchback coupe beared the bowtie in red and blue background on the hood. Until 1980, both version had it on front grill. Also a few ambar turn lights were added for the last models.

I love the monzas, mustang ii's etc, but there's no aftermarket for those cars so you need to fabricate and adapt a bunch and I'm not that good.... cool car though.

I think the 75 model had a 350 with auto which was gutless, the 305 with 4 speed worked much better if the rear end and wheels could tolerate it for very long? The 80 modeld that I had was probably the nicest paint and decal packages on the Spyder of all the years but You had to put your own V8 in as it was no longer a option
