So, everyone is facing the same problem about ASUS TUF FX504 hinge. The problems of hinge issue are bad quality of nut mount and tight hinge mechanism. Solution: 1. Disassembly the laptop and remove the screen, you can use the tutorial in ruclips.net/video/4fXLGr3TxcA/видео.html 2. Disassembly the screen, you can use this video as guide ruclips.net/video/sdhYgLzSZuE/видео.html 3. Locate and find the broken nut mounts of hinge and the nuts. Do not lose the nuts 4. The broken nuts could be on the motherboard or keyboard side or could be on the screen or it could be happened on both sides 5. I use the power glue to place the nuts back in they used to be. 6. Actually, the process of gluing stuff the nuts is the most terrible process. I am not too good at gluing back all the nuts so the form is not coming back to the perfect form. 7. I use baking soda (or powder? correct me if I am wrong) and power glue to make very strong bond on the nut mounts. I use the knowledge from this ruclips.net/video/slCMkvEfK_U/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/Sq5YJbZXaZk/видео.html. 8. Wait until the bonds are all set, dry, and strong. 9. Loosen the tight hinge mechanism by using 5 mm wrench. Just locate the nuts that constraint the hinge mechanism. 10. Assembly all of the stuffs back in the place. Just reverse the disassembly process. I just finish fixing my laptop hinge. It is back to normal again but the form doesn't back to normal again due to lack of detailing skills on glue of mine. I will try to make a video of my results and also write a blog. Thanks
The real solution (especially to prevent this issue) is to loosen the hinge mechanism. Unscrew both sides of the hinges and then give them one turn with a hexagonal thingy to loosen them. You might have to trial different friction values so that the screen holds in place when you lift it, but the reduced tension on the plastic will mean you're less likely to damage it over time.
Great solution Also find the problem of broken nut mounts and fix them. In my humble opinion, this guy from the video does fix the issues by utilizing permanent solution. The screen would not be disassembled again
Exactly. The "hexagonal thingies" are sockets. I didn't have the correct sized socket so I used a very small pair of pliers. Generally the nut on the end of the hinge shaft is stuck on there with Locktite adhesive, making it impossible to turn with any kind of tool. What you need to do first is apply heat from a lighter for a minutes until you hear a little pop noise. That is the Locktite burning up. You'll then be able to loosen the hinges.
The service centre replaced my front panel like 5 times because of this issue. And every time it breaks. Now I keep the laptop open unless I want to take it somewhere 🖐️

Eventually, the left and right hinges will be both broken so remember to be gentle. I am not sure if it is good suggestion to put super glue since it can melt the plastic, then if it hardens and the other areas cannot support the movement of the screen while opening and closing i believe it will cause larger damage.

Dude, quit carrying on like it's some kind of personal attack. This happens with _any_ laptop, because the hinges tighten over time and the plastic can't deal with the extra forces this applies when you open the case.
Hahaha “personal attack”... if you have one of these laptops you’d prolly understand, and maybe you do but that fact is that less than a year these hinges start acting up. Bad design if you ask me. Other laptops hinges are working great and they’ve be used for 5+ years. So yes it happens to any laptop, but it should not happen so fast to a decently expensive laptop.
@@ZackEberly A hinge is a hinge is a hinge. They're all a mechanical device assembled from multiple steel pieces that work together to turn and lock into position. The problem is that every time you open and close a hinge it tightens up the tiniest, tiniest amount. So if you use your laptop a lot, then you are likely to confront this problem sooner than other people and their laptops. I'm going through the same thing myself right now with my Acer. I've ended up having to reinforce my lid from top to bottom with small strips of wood hot glued on to the outside, until a better case comes along.
@@RiffRaffMama. I used the laptop, before replacing it with the cheap Asus one, for a whopping ten years and the hinges are as strong as new. I also have another one that's about as old that one too is still doing strong. This is either a planned obselescence(look it up) or Asus employing college kids to design it's stuff rather than actual engineers. All it takes to catch this kind of issue is opening and closing the lid a thousand times and they do have the means for it.
I had the same problem fixed it abot a year ago just like you did and the problem came back. I asked the official service shop how much it would cost they said it would cost around 180$ for new hinges and a back lid, so i basicly said f**k you and went and ordered a hinge and back lid from aliexpress for 40$ waiting on them as we speak.

You've probably just worked one of the cables loose or off. Open it up and check that every cable is in a socket tightly. If there's any cables floating around then locate an empty socket and see if it fits. Another thing that may have happened is one of the cables (especially the one from the screen to the motherboard) may have broken due to repeated flexing or becoming trapped under a hinge part and being cut in half. Let me know how you go.
@@onewish6023 Did you install anything new before the screen problem? My screen is not coming on now and I suspect it has to do with the two brand new ram cards I just put in, but I haven't been able to test that theory out yet.

I had this problem last year and I've only just come across this video. My solution was also to glue the sides like hell, which seems to have been effective. However, my problem now appears to be a loose hinge where it slides backwards slightly when I close the laptop so that it wont close fully on one side meaning I have to push it back after every use😫
Bought this kind of laptop in 2018 with the i7 model and after a year this hinge problem occur, do the same thing then right now I having an LCD flickering issue. I will never gonna buy this Asus tuf laptop anymore
Same with me, such a weak design on asus part
umm, is it normal for the red part of the screen melting from the glue? lmao thankfully I didn't put that much
Your using the good stuff 😩
LOL yes its fusing the plastic. like zack said that the good stuff.
should we sue asus for this?
yes.
hahaha. we have the same problem.. got mine fixed last August 2020... hope it would last long. ^_^
I had the same issue. The plastic broke on the two sides. Someone suggested that i should buy replacement cover instead of using super glue. Hopefully it works.
Prolly the smarter decision tbh
I thought i was the only one
i'm facing this problem but it no longer turns on
How is it possible that so many modern laptops have such bad hinge design... smh
Them trying to keep costs as low as possible and focusing on the PERFORMANCE.
Lol I almost chose this crap months ago, but I'm glad now im end up with HP pavilion Way better hardware than this
mine just snapped in half today. i dont think getting new casing is even worth it
same happened with mine...fx504 ge 2017 model
ill try this tomorrow
Wtf this is exactly what happened to mine! And I also super glued it twice already!!
Очень не надёжный корпус ноутбука, также оторвалась одна петля, пришлось вскрывать и заклеивать эпоксидкой!
I don't have the exact problem but the hinge do suck
I have the same problem. Should I replace the hinges along with the back cover or will the old back cover do just fine with the new hinges? Thanks!
I did this and about a year after getting it replaced, it has once again broken. I wouldn't if I were you.
Dude I had replaced it for like 5 times🤣 in warranty period. It took only 1-2 months to break.
i have the same problem with laptop.just discovered it las week. Big lesson? This brand is a crap.i will not buying this anymore, nor recommended to others.
Literally making a video right now Why you shouldn’t buy this laptop.
im crying of happening ... Man I had a prob with it just..one day when i close it i heard a fcking cracked! and im poor man i bought the laptop 2nd hand but still new but cheap so yeah.. first laptop ever so i was excited then the hinge broke huhuhuhuhu now imma try that
i got my hinge glued and loosened, works like a dream now lets hope doesnt need taken apart cause all glued lol. i had to take heatsink and all off but now i think prob didnt need to do all that work but ah well some paste was dry but already replaced it a year ago. thanks for the help.
is the hinge still lasting now adays?
I have this model , it sucks .
Its embarrassing, keeps freezing while trying to watch a movie 😔
@@ZackEberly oh you get that glitch too? While watching a movie it stutters a bit. I thought it was only me
the warranty solves the problem?
I guess but I think I voided it with an upgrade so
No they did not fix that in the newer 2020 model ...
I have Tuf A15, and the hinge are exactly similar to these and i hate them
Really?! It sure felt sturdier on a FX505 but that was a 15in so maybe that's why it felt sturdier.
@@ZackEberly
FX505 is 2019 model i think ? 😅
I have A15 (2020 model with Ryzen 4600H)
And I don't like it's hinges at all ....
@@ZackEberly
Imo Lenovo Legion has much better hinge design ...
All it takes to catch this kind of issue is opening and closing the lid a thousand times and they do have the means for it.
i just use tape
Are you mad how can you replace your screen
Madly in love with you!! You could prolly buy a new panel and disconnect the display cables and take out the screws.
Lmk how that works out for you
The problem is how you open it.
I knew the hinge was faulty from people telling me. I made sure to be extra careful when opening it and it lasted much longer than other peoples laptop but atlas it still broke. So that begs the question, whose fault is it. Mine or the manufacturer.
@@ZackEberly how many years do you used it before the hinges are broke?
@@johnave4545 This would be 2 years using this laptop almost everyday at work. I've talked to others where it started cracking soon after they got it and/or several months of use.
Hi. I have the same problem. How long does it work on glue? How long?
The glue is still sticking, though I am trying to be very careful when opening it.
I know this video is old but I bought this laptop in 2019 for 'gaming' and to finish my last year of University since my previous Laptop died, If I used this laptop like 10 to 20 times is a lot because is damn slow and mine only has a hard drive, do you know what I could do to make it faster?
Also that hinge thing happened to me too but i just when with glue to 'fix' it.
You could put a SSD as the windows boot drive and it would speed it up. Get a 500gb SSD or something. Crack it open i bet there is a open M.2 slot for a M.2 ssd. I have a upgrade video for this laptop- ruclips.net/video/3lInVzXBO1g/видео.html
ahahahah lmao this is my old Laptop, i tried to open it and i broke the entire hinge because of stupid Asus 🤣😂
Literally is starting to break for me again 😔
is it too late for mine? the screen wont turn on its completely off, about a year ago it happened.
@@RiffRaffMama. im not home for a couple of days, but i remember wire was sticking out. Also im pretty sure it wasn’t the mother board.
@@onewish6023 Did you install anything new before the screen problem? My screen is not coming on now and I suspect it has to do with the two brand new ram cards I just put in, but I haven't been able to test that theory out yet.
@@RiffRaffMama. no
Sir, i have the same laptop and my fan rattle a lot. Do you have the same problem?
I had a plastic piece stuck in my fan that caused some noise but other than that not really.
My fan rattle a lot do you know why?
I had that problem when going on full speed, ended up exchanging the fans.
@@amateurpro1185 common problem for this laptop, need to replace the fan...
i have both problems too
How's your fix holding up a week or two later?
I think I put enough glue in that the only way, its coming apart would be either the hinge mechanics or it snaps in the middle of the screen! Its extremely sturdy again and fells like a 800 hundred dollar laptop.
@@ZackEberly awesome - I will give it a shot!
@@ZackEberly way more damage on both sides of the hinge for me - so I did a complete disassembly of the screen and hopefully it will all go back!
When in doubt, just use more super glue
same issue
worst fix ever ! so unprofessional!
No one said it was supposed to be!! Get out, dislike the vid my guy
yes this thig happen with me also
same problem 😑
Same...
SUPER GLUE
That is fake
I don’t even know how that works for this video. What the laptop or the super glue?
@@ZackEberly I think he's referring to the Gorilla on the super glue.
Same problem too!fk Asus
What about 2020 model a15 and f15?
It looks like they have the same hinge design but the the 17in have it the worst. The 15in hinges will last longer.
@@ZackEberly thanks man
I should have watched videos about this problem.... before buying it. 🥲
