The radio in that one had completely quit, and when he was in college I broke into it and installed an 8-track. He didn't have any 8-tracks but at least the radio worked.
I'm very envy of all the cars you still own Mark, I used to have 1984 vw scirocco, got rear ended and the car was totalled, of all the car I've owned the scirocco was one of my favorite.
what a blast from the past, the original Scirocco! I had 2 of these on separate occasions, both 1978 models with the K-jetronic 1.5L and 81 whole horsepower. but they are great to autocross, so much fun. since they weigh nothing at all, any mods make immediate impacts :)
I had a 1980 Scirocco S for 10 years, best car I ever owned. Easy to work on, good looking, good on gas and very reliable. Its only till recently that people have started to appreciate them again. Look forward to seeing you fix this one up!
Mark your videos are always the best we love seeing Stella or at least I do and I love the way you do your videos thank you so much just wonderful and awesome.
This model was one of my favorites of the mid-late '70s cars; I recall that these, and the Rabbits, were all over Seattle, catching on just before the Honda Civic and Accord did. Sounds like you did a lot of mods to this one; IIRC, the 1975-76 were carbureted w/ about 76 BHP; in '77 there was a one year only (for the States, anyway) 1.6 liter, w/ Bosch K-Jetronic (I think) injection and 78 BHP; for '78, they went back to a 1.5 liter w/ 71 BHP, and introduced the "Champaign Editions". For 1979, they were, of course, mfg. in Pennsylvania (for the US market)...
An early Mk I Scirocco sitting in the mud? You gotta get that car dolled up and back on the road Mark! It's too cool a car to leave rotting out behind the shop
Too Cool ! I had a maroon 76 back in 1979. First FWD car I ever owned and discovered how great they were in snowy Colorado winters. Had to throw a head on it at 40k miles due to valve guide oil leakage. Other than that it was bulletproof. Love the look with those bigger wheels. Havent seen one in 35 years. Thanks for the memories !!!
Nice to see one of those. Rover built a sedan that looked like that Sirocco back then but it had a 6-cyl with dual carbs and was extremely fast with less than adequate suspension for its power (a friend's father drove one). Now that it runs you just need to work the few years of auto-arthritis out of it's bones and you'll have another daily driver. I think VW kept using carburetors until the 1980-1985 period(?) when they gradually switched all models to fuel injection.
I live in Wales UK 🏴 and when I was a younger man i worked at a second hand car sales place and one time a Scirocco storm MK1 was for sale there and I fell in love with it and wanted to buy it for myself but unfortunately it sold really quickly but I still love the storm edition Scirocco to this day and the mk1 Scirocco's in general and it's great to see your car coming back to life!.
In New Zealand they had to put those metal sleeves on the power poles to stop the possums climbing up the poles and shorting out the power lines...⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡🌩🌩🌩🌩⚡⚡⚡⚡
A MK I Scirocco! These are as rare as hen's teeth or rocking horse poop, even in Germany! Been years since I've seen one! The only thing you see less off are the K70 or the Audi 50.
I my 1984 Passat 1.8 (DS engine) these 3 electrode plugs were not any better than the stock original ones with a single electrode. Regarding starting at cold temperatures, they were even worse. It's better to swap them back.
LOL! And there's his second car right behind it. A yellow diesel rabbit.
The radio in that one had completely quit, and when he was in college I broke into it and installed an 8-track. He didn't have any 8-tracks but at least the radio worked.
Liked 'cause my brother's first car was a Scirocco. Heck yeah. That car's almost as old as me & look at it.

What a gem! 😍
It deserves a little more love though.
Amazing story! You never disappoint Mark! Amazing first car. Even more amazing you still have it. Even more amazing it is still running. Kudos!

Wow, you still have tour 1st car - that's great. I think this would draw a nice crowd at a cars & coffee, once winter is behind us.
Beautiful car! Once restored it's gonna look awesome! I would paint the structural support flat black :)

good old car. how is the nash coming along?
These are great cars. Nice score.

I had a green '74 Scirocco, with the single wiper. It was really sloooow. Great car!
Thats awesome! You should do some videos cleaning it up and doing some maintenance to it and driving it and finding a good spot for it to rest
dude you're so close to 100k subscribers!
I'm glad that he's doing YT short, which is helping him tremendously, its take almost ten years to get 100k
So close !!!
I have two sciroccos:) One I bought brand new.

Beautiful, distinctive design! Hope you save it...
That's the plan!
@2stroketurbo yay!!! So happy you appreciatie European cars!
That's fantastic that you still have your first car. The petrol on the manifold was a bit scary to watch!
I my 1984 Passat 1.8 (DS engine) these 3 electrode plugs were not any better than the stock original ones with a single electrode. Regarding starting at cold temperatures, they were even worse. It's better to swap them back.
Fix it! You never see those cars anymore, and they were so fun.
Am I the only one that screams STELLA when he sees Stella?
Unfortunately, I had the Scirocco's less sporty cousin the Dasher.
Cool car
Reverse lights need fixing. Is that one of those crazy pieberg carbs?
Keeping a cover on a car that sits outside is a bad thing
wow mk1 scirocco !
pesky little beavers
Owned for 45 years,, owned it at age 9?? Lisa liked your german pinto??
Always good to see Stella !!!!!!!
