Thanks for postin' good questions I was wondering some of the same stories I had heard ( I'm still waiting to hear again about the time Charlie Daniels ate their whole plate of chicken and attempted to drink their ration of Jack Daniels backstage andThank you Al for the humble origins of Sounds of the South! History might have gone another direction!!! Long live the music of LS 🐊 and RVZ 👣 the top frontman (in my opinion)ever in rock and roll🎶⚡ 🤘🎶. -Peace out y'all!!! JF🐾
That room David is in is awesome, with the amazing woodwork, etc. I just listened and heard Al Kooper singing "Southern Man" very faintly in the background right after Ronnie say "Well I heard Mr. Young sing about her..." What a cool bit of Rock music history!
Back in the seventies the Hollywood Sportatorium, or Slimeatorium as we locals called it, delivered some of the best shows around south Florida. I remember seeing Loggins and Messina last show together, and some guy named Jimmy Buffet 🤣opened up for them. Jimmy was booed off the stage so we could get to the main act. Driving home early the next morning WSHE FM announced that those who were at the show last night were the last to see Kenny and Jim together. It was a bummer, but I was glad I was there. Most of the shows I barely remember 🤨 Quaaludes 😬 had that effect.
You're not kidding. So many memories from the Sportatorium. The first concert I attended there was Santana in 1979, and the final concert that I went to there was Rush in 1989.
I used to work for Video Supply Company in the early eighties in Atlanta, and several of our folks were in local band's who did many gigs at The Seen (sp?) in downtown Atlanta. Fun times 🤣

Yes it was Funnochios and when they recorded free bird Al told them it was too long of a song to put on an album and wouldn’t get no airplay and Ronnie put him in his car and told him we’re recording it our way will let you know when we’re done then you can come back true story

Lynyrd Skynyrd? The question: was there an artist you wanted to work with then got to work with did that live up to its expectation. Never really got an answer. So he produced Lynyrd Skynyrd's first three albums but something happened. I guess I have to research
Great interview! Thank you!! 🙂 Al Kooper looks great!
Thank you al for discovering the greatest band ever!
Alabama ❤'s Al Cooper
The night club in Atlanta where Kooper discovered 'Skynyrd was a place called Funochios.

Getting wasted to see concerts is stupid.
Awesome interview

Excellent! "No,it's the other way around!". Genuis...
Wow…you can barely hear Al singing southern man softly
RVZ got to meet John Lennon and opened up for the Stones..not too bad
God Bless Al Cooper
I read that Ronnie told Al that Sweet Home Alabama was either going to be a hit or piss people off so bad they wouldn't get a second chance.

No, it was Simple Man when Ronnie put Al in the car.
