I have to say Ive gone through just about all the uploaded fiction fantasy sci-fi books in the last 5 yrs and have to admit. I knew this was a romance fantasy... Don't normally go there but not much else left and gave it a shot! There are some uploaded versions of PC narrations and honestly quite a few books that the narrator isn't to my liking , that said to this narrator A BOMB FN JOB!! I hope you narrate more !! i'm not liking the professor's attitude so far, bc of how she reacts to it. He s domeneering and she s swooning instead of setting boundaries. She s easily influenced by him. I really don't get the appeal of a man who think it's sexy to tell a woman she ll beg. He even says he s not found of the Amazon type, and doesn't want her to get taller. That s a man easily threatened by strong women. I would have enjoyed his arrogance if it was met with her strentgh, not with her simpering. At least she s generally a smart person. I m disliking how female characters are often made dumb and submissive by lust in all paranormal romances. She can't even hold her '' no'' firmly. She s always on the verge of apologizing to the guy, even when she s not wrong. She s the perfect candidate for a gaslighting. It' s a mercy her grandpa came into the picture. MARCUS would have enjoyed keeping her in the dark longer, and thus vulnerable. It' s a mercy that Mickeal attacked her and that made her a little resistant to the professor's advances. The age difference is creepy bc he s controlling and he treats her like a child sometimes (like buttoning up her coat). He clearly enjoys her naivety, bc it gives him even more power over her. He would have liked if she was a damzel in distress all the time... I'm angry bc the book in general is awsome, and it's a pity that it falls under the Dominant_sub stereotype. I'm so fed up with the alpha male trope that romanyicizes matcho men.

    • @lauraramnarace1649
      @lauraramnarace1649 2 года назад +2

      Great points. I had the same reaction. I loved the story (interesting characters, great description, fascinating situation, good narration) until close to the halfway point when the dynamics between the two became apparent. He's an arrogant, domineering ass who likes to demean women (calling his long time colleague "girl" nauseated me) and she's a naive weakling only interested in his appearance and not his character. Ugh. So I stopped listening. But I love the author's storytelling ability otherwise so I looked up Legacy of the Lost for reviews- good, good, good, then one reviewer said that 2/3 of the way through she turns it into "romantic drivel." Oh well.

    • @chrislastname1994
      @chrislastname1994 2 года назад +1

      I think yall are neglecting reality here. I get that a person can choose to write a character however they want, but there is reality to sub Dom narrative. Right or wrong that exists in reality and isn't always consistent even within one individual. A strong woman can find herself submissive to a particular person regardless of her normal temperament. The same can be said for a man. Also, as a side note the whole sub Dom kind of gets a bad reputation. Being submissive and/or dominant isn't inherently bad or good. Emotions and the human existence is immensely complicated.

    • @blackstorm9755
      @blackstorm9755 Год назад

      But in this story, She, NOT He is the ultimate power. So, like the author stated, her writing had some growing up to do. Ink Witch, says she got there...

    • @salwaaj1356
      @salwaaj1356 Год назад

      @@chrislastname1994 in my opinion, her suubmissiveness is bad because it s not limited to bed preferences but it touches every aspect of her interactions with a guy who is generally manipulative. So, yes it is a complementary couple, but not a healthy one. Besides he is generally sexist so it add fuel, not just arrogant. So it makes dominance in that context problematic. a dominant man who is sexist would treat women's submissiveness as '' natural'' and not a preference, and would reject any assertiveness even outside of bed. I ve listened to this book years ago and i still remember how angry i was.

    *thank you* Lindsey - I started this as a nice way to relax over the weekend while I was doing other things - and it's now Tuesday afternoon (here in Aotearoa/New Zealand) and I'm completely hooked - what an innovative narrative, intriguing concept = completely loving it.
    I agree with Shelly (below) - many authors/their publishers take down ANY audio books - which is really short sighted - (one author in particular, came onto youtube ranting at people for posting his work - theft, should be ashamed etc etc - well the ONLY way I was introduced /would have ever been introduced to his series - (19 books and counting...) was via the audiobook here on youtube)
    anyway - *thank you* _ fro this full free version of the entire first book of this (and the spin off series) I will most certainly be continuing the read the rest of this series - and the next (I actually started with Ink Witch - which was really enjoying, but it sounded like there was history... again, awesome world creation - so unique and intriguing ...)
    (I'm on disability (PTSD, Anixety, Depression, and more recently fibromyalgia) so while I can't afford to buy the rest of your books - this series and the Kat Dubois series, I WILL be recommending them as purchases by our library system - (Auckland Council, - only about a few actual copies, however serving a population of 1.7 million people)

    I can't see so far, where this is "time travel". At least, if there is, it's not in the, say, customary sense - like actually to fully be and interact. In fact, even being an observer is already practically an interaction: seeing something physically means catching photons and receiving information - on the latter there are cosmological rules, you see, - not even speaking of smelling, which one really is done by catching physical matter in your nose, meaning the interaction is quite intense - not only on the quantum level but also on the hard matter, molecular one by all means.

    • @MrZajebali
      @MrZajebali 2 года назад

      Oops, the first of my comment was kinda rush, still I do imply that the author didn't want the "travel" part be of the sense that many a "time machine" writer have trifled with since Verne.

    I am so disappointed with the initial premise about her reaction to be a test tube baby that I just can't go on listening to this story. I think what a stupid premise and now I think what a stupid person would be with a reaction like thst

    I'm enjoying the plot, the sexual content is distracting and annoying. I fast forward some, but I'm afraid I'll skip too far miss something important to the plot so I mostly suffer through it. Ugh
