  • Back with another Vehicle of Transit to talk about! This time we're looking at a young but already well-beloved bus in the TTC's bus fleet - the Novabus LFS HEV, or more commonly known as the new hybrid buses of the fleet. We love these buses, and we wanted to share some more details with you guys!

    I like the Novabuses, especially the seats behind the driver! I also love the classic old Orions... so loud but so classic!

    To me, the quintessential TTC bus is the first-generation Orion VII in the old livery. Plenty of transit systems have used New Looks, Xcelsiors, and Novas, but the Orion VII screams "TTC".

    What's so frustrating is that they don't even use those LCD screens. All is says it Welcome aboard. They can also show subway delays and what you need to know on the TTC

    Hi, I am from Italy and I like to watch your videos, they are very interesting 👏.
    Can you explain me, please, what is the white metal rack/frame that is fixed on the front / on the nose of the bus ? What is the purpose of this rack ?

    • @ooogappp
      @ooogappp 4 года назад +3

      @@RMTransit Thanks for your answer.
      But when the rack is down and bikes are placed on it, aren't they obstructing / blocking a bit the view on the street of the driver ?
      I mean, is it safe / confortable for the bus driver to drive in city traffic with some bikes placed in front of his eyes (i.e. mounted on the rack on the nose of the bus) ?

      @D2A962 4 года назад +3

      @@ooogappp The bikes do not come up higher than the top of the rack, so no it doesnt obstruct views. Ive seen these bike racks on buses that take long highway routes though the boonies

    I think bus manufacturers should focus on using natural gas as a fuel rather than diesel. I think a natural gas hybrid bus would have even lower emissions than diesel hybrid buses. But anyway, I like these new buses.

  • @cduemo

    I'm all for useful environmental initiatives, but you left out some critical elements in deciding whether or not these hybrid buses make ecosense. Up front price vs. regular buses. Will these buses serve as many years as standard ones? Long-term maintenance, especially battery replacement. Plus end of service costs for disposal of batteries.

    • @AmelieZh

      CJD I always wonder how much it is to dispose battery

    • @beanapprentice1687
      @beanapprentice1687 2 года назад

      Chances are the battery will outlast the rest of the bus. And the long term cost of the hybrid bus will be significantly less than that of the regular diesel, which is what public transmit companies really care about.

    The USB charging ports facing up will be filled up with dirt pretty quickly and become useless. Should have been designed to face down or at least horizontal. The rubber caps will be lost within 2 months of operation.

      Definitely been on the a few times on various routes in the STM. Features like USB charging and the overall quietness/smoothness of the ride. The Nova LFS are quite common now on streets in Montreal.

    I don't care for these. I really hope the TTC buys more of the Proterra models. Look so much better and closet thing to the older buses with the raised steps and window line straight across. Even has a rear window like the old GM! My personal favorite vehicle is and always will be the newlook gm buses. Always loved riding on one.
