    Here are some suggested steps. Remove all the hardware AND electronics. Tape off the neck pocket and all cavities and holes. Basically, anywhere wood and wood touch or wood and plastic or wood and metal screws. Make sure the body is elevated off the table. Do the paint pour or even better do a colored resin pour over flat white or black. If you do a separate resin layer, keep a torch handy to quickly go over any bubbles. The heat will also cause the resin to move faster so be aware of that. Do both sides or support the body on a wire and pour vertically. Let it cure 100%. Reassemble the hardware and electronics making sure to clean up any resin that might have gotten into any of the "No No" areas.

      I’m working on a guitar now, I have a few details to go over, but I want to resin both sides. Should I tape off one side, do the resin, let it cure, then tape off the other side and resin??

  • @thomasnorthcastle4130

    Of course you made the mistake of rebuilding your guitar prior to adding the resin. I would also suggest that you use a torch to remove any bubbles. You just wave it over the areas that need it because you will burn the resin.

    sand your clear resin smooth and polish it mate. don't be scared to rip out those electronics either. Good attempt though mate

  • @dougsaroma

    Pretty cool result. But pouring over the stems of the volume and tone knobs was not a good idea. Probably gonna have to replace those. I would recommend having someone remove those first next time, as well as the pickups, before pouring (and tape up the insides of the slots). And also tape up the sides of the neck pocket, so you'll get the crucial wood-to-wood fit between the neck and body.

    Never pour or brush or spray any resin or clear coat with the potentiometer stems still in, they'll lock in place. Always remove all the electronics and hardware, tape off all the cavities and neck pocket.

    It is beautiful! I pour and the next time, before the resin, finish your acrylic pour by using corn starch all over but especially where the silicone is making cells. Wipe it clean with alcohol really well and then you're ready for epoxy. You should not have the uneveness over the cells. Love the colors of your pour.

    That guitar looks amazing! I was thinking of pour painting my skis. I live in the mountains in Switzerland and it can be difficult to find some of the products. Please can you tell me more about the resin so that I know what to search for. Thanks, Jeni

    • @SouffleArt
      @SouffleArt  6 лет назад

      I would recommend an industrial strength epoxy resin. Epoxy resins are extra durable, so be sure to look for a non-yellowing, industrial strength, clear epoxy resin. I did some searching on Amazon, and this type of resin would be what you need: www.amazon.com/Coloredepoxies-10002-Basements-Concrete-Plywood/dp/B01KX0TK6Q/
      Now, that simply has good product features for what you need. I'm not saying you need three gallons of the stuff haha! Look for resins with similar features:
      • Industrial grade - not commercial or food grade
      • Clear AND non-yellowing so you can preserve your painting's color
      • Impact/scratch-resistant
      • Rated for outside use
      • Non-Sag (Thixotropic) if possible - means you should be able to coat the whole ski at once

      Thank you so much for looking into this for me and your advice. I’m wondering whether the layer of paint would actually stay on as I would need to leave the edges free of paint, so there’d. Be a join right on the edge which would possibly be very vulnerable. What do you think? I really enjoy your videos , as you try interesting things. Jeni

    those 'inconsistencies' are from the silicone you used in the paint. resin does not 'stick' and creates those craters. next time, no resin.

    I like it....what resin did you use and would you use the same thing if doing it again...?

    • @SouffleArt
      @SouffleArt  5 лет назад

      Any self-degassing, self-leveling, non-yellowing, clear resin should do the trick. Resins with those qualities are usually made to protect the surface and color quality of whatever they're covering. The only thing I'd change going back would be to skip the silicone

    When you poured the top with paint what did you do to get a good transition on the sides and eliminate the drip globes?

    • @SouffleArt
      @SouffleArt  5 лет назад

      The best way is to sand it off using increasingly fine sanding pads and buffing/polishing pads, otherwise it's going to be near impossible to avoid the globes

  • @grantgallier4330

    Would this work on the surface of, say, a Fender stratocaster, which is smoother and more plasticky?

    • @SouffleArt
      @SouffleArt  4 года назад

      Yes, but I'd recommend sanding the surface very thoroughly with a medium grit sandpaper. That'll give the paint enough texture to hang on to without deeply gouging lines into the body (like a coarse grit sandpaper is likely to do)

  • @garlicdawg
    @garlicdawg 5 лет назад

    could we use a spray resin or clear coat...would that be smoother....?

    • @SouffleArt
      @SouffleArt  5 лет назад

      I've never personally heard of or used a spray on resin or any spray clear coat that I would trust to protect the paint from all the strumming and wear. It would be smoother, but I don't think it would be strong enough

  • @scubarojo
    @scubarojo 4 года назад

    This paint job could also be covered by two or more coats of a gloss varnish, like Minwax Polycrylic which might be easier to get a smooth finish, but maybe not as hard as resin, but the poly might let the wood ring better? I don't know. Nice video, very well done. Thanks.

    • @SouffleArt
      @SouffleArt  4 года назад

      An industrial sealer like that would be at least moderately successful in protecting the finish. It really all depends on the picking style of the guitar player and how strong they scratch the body.
      Players with good control can get away with lighter sealants, while aggressive strummers are going to need something heavier like resin

  • @ArielJoseMM
