Goodness gracious! he was really fun to watch. I am in awe of his skill set. The explosiveness, excellent handle, the grace and ease finishing at the rim, the elegance that comes with it, plus his basketball IQ is a top tier. Grant Hill is among those who revolutionized the point forward in his era. I am pretty sure he could have been among the greats to have ever played hoops barring injuries that ruined his prime.

I love how simple he kept the game, but never forces anything just taking what the other team gives him… truly a student of the game. And he actually passes the ball, most elite players with that skill end up playing for themselves and fall for the trap, wanting to beat the other team by themselves while trying to see how many points he can score off them… he played Winning basketball. I could’ve def seen him Winning a Championship! (I don’t know what it is? But for some reason he reminds me alot of Tim Duncan)

Hill has said in interviews that he felt he was the best player in the '96 season, but for perspective, Hill averaged 21.4 ppg and MJ averaged 29.6 in 96-97. In 95-96, Hill averaged 20.2 ppg and MJ averaged 30.4. Hill might have "felt" like the best player, but he was a long ways from it. MJ made the "All Defensive Team" in both of these seasons and Grant Hill NEVER made an All Defensive Team. No hate towards Grant at all, he is one of my al time fav's, but he is delusional thinking he was better than MJ during those years (or ever).

Don’t let the numbers fool you. Hill was doing for the Pistons, the combined jobs of Jordan and Pippen at his peak. Mike did average more points, but that’s on 10 more shots per game. Hill averaged 2 assist and 4 rebounds more per game than Jordan. And he’s guarding the other team’s best player. It’s impossible to really argue against MJ, but the comparison is more valid than you’re letting on.

    • @vanhattfield8292

What are you, 90, and don't know how the internet works? Every game he played and every statistic for each of those games is readily available online for anyone, regardless of age, to see at anytime. Negating someone' opinion because they are UNDER 35 makes no more sense than negating someone's opinion for being OVER 35. Hill was a very good player, but he didn't even make the list of 75 best NBA player's of all time. The list's he DOES make are not the "What he did" list's, they are the "What if he didn't get injured" lists, which are speculation. Some people can't recognize the difference between the two, rating and ranking him on "What if's", which is how he is sometimes labeled as "over rated" by others.

Never developed a jump shot. No one at the time thought he was going to be the next jordan, that is absolute bulshit. He played 6 healthy years and the average just over 20 points during that span. ESPN and the NBA may have tried to shove that idea down people's throat, but nobody that actually watched the NBA thought Grant Hill was going to be the second coming of Michael Jordan. It was not like that at all. Every single season of Jordan's career he averaged more points than Grant Hills best season.

Scottie not Jordan could guard baby Hill. LeBron is 20+ pounds heavier and averages 7 more points a game.
I always said that the closest resemblance of Hill is LeBron.
LeBron would’ve smoked every elite player in the 80s and 90s because of his quick first step and high iq at the rim. Hill was a demigod in his short prime. I would’ve loved to see him stay healthy and impact the game more. One of the biggest if not the biggest what if in basketball history.

Hill cooked Pippen to the point where Phil Jackson had to put Jordan on Hill to finally stop him and close the game, and it worked. Either way, of course Scottie guarded him most of the game, they play the same position.

Lebron doesn't have a quick first step. He needs a lot of space to accelerate and is useless if there is a rim protector camping in the paint

@@underpressure07140 tell me you have never seen film on LeBron without telling me you’ve never seen film on LeBron. He was at one point the fastest player and best rim finisher. He’s got a whole hour highlight reel of first step quickness and dunking on the whole league. Lmao.

At best he'd be a T-mac or Vince Carter. That's at best. He was over hyped like Penny Hardaway to sell jerseys. I wish they didn't get hurt so there would be no "mystery" but these players are basically who they are for most of their career by year 2 or 3. They don't get dramatically better, and Hill needed to get dramatically better to be a Kobe, Wade or MJ.

If you think Penny and Hill were "overhyped" and not in the same league as Wade (Wade!?), you were too young in the 90s (if you were even alive) and don't know shit about basketball from back then.

It's funny you put tmac and carter in the same league. Carter made all nba 2nd once and all nba 3rd once, that's the same amount as Julius randle. Hill meanwhile made all nba 1st once and all nba second four times. They are not in the same league.

The couple of things he did, offensively, he did very well, but his offensive game wasn't that versatile. Iffy jumper, limited post moves. Most of what he did was youth and athleticism, quick first step, good crossover, but that's about it.

He was a special player, but he was never even best at his position at any point in his career.
Did he have the potential to get there?
    Sure.
...But thats what makes him a "what if" not a "he was".
