Now imagine this scene a few hundred years ago with hundreds of warriors on the field of battle, facing their enemy, and performing this challenge in preparation for hand to hand combat and a possible life ending struggle? Gives me chills to think about it.
War is not good in any case. However, there are times when it becomes a battle due to unforeseen circumstances. (Unfortunately, I think we humans are such creatures.) In that case, I understand that the sacred dance for praying to God and praying for victory is in the form of HAKA.
Yes I imagine Captain Cook turning up in Ateroa and certainly having a lot of anxious times and bad dreams after being confronted with this display. His descendants in the rugby union field wearing the English jumper share his trepidation nowadays.
Yeah you'd respect that in earnest my friend When I was at school they're use to be a weird kid and I admit we did provoke him but you'd never scrape with the Lad He got upset he use to start screaming shit dunno what he was saying and hitting himself in the head, rushed the hardest kid at school and Nealy killed him! Even though it's years ago and I'm different now I still remember that kid man...….Him psyching himself up!
Springbokke vs. All Blacks. A burning fierce rivalry and war and love for the game. South Africans have seen the Haka many times before a match against the Bokke.
The best I have seen. Beats me how they have the time to learn all the words and moves and still play such great rugby. I wish they would take up ballet and give others a chance.
Actually...all New Zealanders grow up learning a variety of Hakas via school and sports they participated in during their younger days. It's like learning the Nursery Rhymes. Different Hakas are for different purposes. A few years back my nephew was killed by a drive-by shooting. So at his burial as my family was lowering the casket down the plot, several of my nephew's friends or his homies broke out in this amazing tear-jerking Haka performance that I've never seen before. I was later told that the particular Haka was about a Father's plead and mourning for over the loss of his son in battle or something to that effect. That's when I realized the significance of the Haka based on the events. As an islander whom grew up in the islands during my elementary years, I can still remember about 2 or 3 Hakas that I learned during those years BEFORE my family moved to Southern California for good.
I like this. Hakas are usually performed for opponents or people they hold great respect for if I'm not mistaken. Just seeing one being performed for you or for someone else is a great honor in my opinion.
I would love to see a film about the evolution of the Haka. I was watching a show the other night and they showed a Haka from the 60s. The AB team of the time was just about all packhia ( not sure how you spell that) guys. The performance was really hopeless. It seems the Haka as we know is a fairly recent thing. When did it go from embarrassing to awesome?
I am also interested in the history of HAKA. According to one theory, HAKA was shown before the National Match in NZ from the early 1900s, but it's not clear. The manager of the team I belonged in University to went on an national match to NZ in the 1960s as a representative of Japan (12th Center position), and he said that HAKA was already announced at that time. When they decided to bring haka into rugby, it probably would've been done lazily, with uneducated tutors and unenthusiastic learners. and as we started to learn more about our culture, the haka would've developed into what it is now. Just my guess tho.

I do believe your samurai might have given these indigenous kiwi something to think about though⚔️

Best haka ever, made me cry. Respect from Sweden.

Yes, I also watched the 2017 Spring Bokkes vs. All Blacks match in a sports bar at Durban. I was so excited...
I never get tired of watching the Hakka.
You love trains
I love NewZeland and the Malori people!! They treated us great when I was there in 1969!! They are the true and real people of New Zealand,!

I'm glad you think so too
Smart.. The AB team must perform the haka with matches in world rugby... I'm a Big Fan from South Africa... AB supporter for life🖤🙏🤼🇦🇺🏈👍🙌💪👊
Wrong flag lol. 🇳🇿👉 New Zealand. 🇦🇺👉 Australia. 🍻🤙
The Hakka is one of the most beautiful and intimidating display of warrior ethos in existence.

I think that's exactly right
Its a War dance at the end.

I saw them do this at Cardiff last October, it’s well worth it 👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍

Hahahaha its awesome. Scary but very Cool 😎👈🤓 👌 🥰🥰♥️😅😅
After a HAKKA like that you samn well better win.

Omg sooo coooool💕💕💕
I love them
Wow like it very much
And that is why the all blacks are my team
Awesome!!!!!

Goosebumps here i love the haka
Aroha from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Amazing.
There is no sexier than a passionate haka! 👌
You love dominance
When you are dying to run to the toilet but you have to complete the rehearsal.

I love you too!!!
Choreographed with passion. I hope energy was saved for the game.
Choreographed? This is a tribal ritual! Go back to your corner and get educated fool!
If I were the other team, I'd concede defeat right then and there.
Not the Welsh! 🏴
haka but the French team put them 40 points. :))
Damn your so cool😕😂
Yeah true and when did the French win a world cup ??
Yes french are a good team👍🇫🇷⚜️🗼🏉 🥂🏆
