Lake hickory attractions does a big Halloween display in October called Lake Hickory Haunts which is probably where they get most of their money from

The old mill is where the US flag was made that was put on the moon. Fun fact

I bet the workers of the old mill were proud of that. Thanks for sharing 👍

The name of the dam is Rhodhiss dam it was built in the late 1920s up until about 20 some years ago there was an older and I think larger mill that sat on the Caldwell side of the river. My understanding is that both mills used their own water power prior to the dam being built .... I suspect that an older portion of the remaining mill sat closer to the bridge originally and you were likely seeing remnants of the old pinstocks that controlled the water for the mills. Ftw you were correct that lake rhodhiss is behind the dam a the bridge crosses over the beginning of lake hickory.... there are a couple dams down stream that are to various degrees semi circular but, rhodhiss is straight.

Thanks for the information. I did not know there were two mills with their own power.👍

I was driving by yesterday afternoon to get a feel for Lake Rhodhiss but couldn't get much closer to the lake since where I drove it was some big lake community (East/West Harbor Drive) with homes or private roads and I really didn't get to see a nice view of the lake. The lake lots in some gated communities like Lake Reserve start from around 100k to up to 250-300k. Not sure if they are worth the money. Thoughts?

Lake lots and homes have gotten very pricey over the last 10 years. When I lived on lake Norman a lake front lot was around 70,000 in 1998. Today the prices have gone insane.
I moved and bought a small A frame house on High Rock Lake in 2016 for 207, 000 and today it’s valued at 460, 000. Everything is overvalued in my opinion.
I imagine it will stay that way as long as demand stays high. As far as your question is it worth it, I would say no. But then again, prices are high everywhere and a lake home will most likely hold its value over the coming years.
Thanks for sharing your experience and let’s us no if you decide to buy.
