I am so glad i watched this reaction Because achara translated whatever he said in french😁 For all these years I didn't know the meaning of what he said until today!!
@@nandagopalm7232 dude i watched it like 6-7 years ago, to be honest i didn't really much care about details in a movie back then. But now after rewatching this i realised what i had missed.
Actually I am kinda happy for her that her husband and daughter now give her the respect she deserves.... But still somewhere I wanted her to be with him❤️.... I wanted them to open that French Indian restaurant 😭❤️
I really wanted Shashi and Laurent to end up together as he actually sees and treats her as a person!! He respects her, listens to her, is gentle towards her, never takes her for granted, or belittles her. Well, if I was Shashi, I would've lost love for my husband, because he constantly belittles my business, constantly belittles me, and underestimates what I can do (does not even think me as a grown-up woman can travel alone to New York and if he was this worried, why didn't he help)
Hey, I find your comment interesting. I personally would've not liked the ending if she ended up with Luraunt not because what you say isn't true, it is, he does everything you say, but because it's not the reality of her situation. Had she left with the French then she wouldn't have grown. I donno if I'm phrasing it correctly but reality is not all rainbows and sunshine and the time and effort you invest in any relation has to mean something more than being able to leave it for any man who shows a little more appreciation than you feel you deserve. In the end the man realizes also that he was wrong and he gets the chance to show he cares. If she left he wouldn't be given that chance and then she would never have known. If he after being given a chance doesn't change than she should definately leave him.
@@ZainabJamaly Zainab, I'm also the loyal type in a relationship, but there is a limit to trying to fix it on your own As you mentioned, if my husband wants to change, but still, if he is 40+ or 50+ and he still doesn't have basic respect for women, basic respect for me, and my business, then there's a very slim chance that he's going to change That is the reality that I believe in which is not rainbows and sunshine I would leave my husband if I have lost all love (and respect) for him as it would mean that both of us would be unhappy and it is better to separate if both are unhappy In the end, the husband only respects her because she learnt english and developed her confidence In which she had 0 help from her husband and family In fact, they mercilessly mocked and shamed her for it all the time, there were also other red flags like him not respecting her business In reality, it would be tough for a woman to be gracious after all this Being loyal to no end on our own with no seeming incentive/inclination/enthusiasm on the other side is a fault of us women who think too lowly of ourselves
@@vatsalasaxena8430 my perspective on the movie is completly different from yours. I see him as a person who believes Shashi could do more if she knew english. He thinks laddos is the best she can do and that's where she proves him wrong. Yes he is demeaning and belittling of her and there is no excuse to justify that except he doesn't realize what he is doing. She sees this and yes, she deserves her due for sticking to it to the end and correctly judging his character and not all men are the same but in this case I think the happier ending for Shashi was to stick with her husband and prove him wrong and "fix" the relationship. She could barely finish her English classes because of her sense of duty was so strong, it would've also been completely out of character for her to leave her family and go away for herself.
Regarding the use of 'The', it is grammatically incorrect to use it in front of proper nouns like India or America. The United States is a collective noun so 'The' is used as a prefix just like in India's official name The Republic of India.
The best part of the movie was sridevi’s eyes and expressions. So expressive. She conveyed so much without uttering a single word throughout the movie. Uffff….!!!!!
But why though Shashi never felt that way about him She was respectful towards herself, her family & Laurent She loved her husband & I'm sure he loved her as well even though he didn't understand her & needed some improvement He ws condescending towards her but it ws never intentional & he was apologetic after realising his mistake Breaking relationships instead of communication & working towards it is what has lead to our generation being unable to experience long term, healthy & fulfilling relationships
I don't know whether you both know this or not that Sridevi spoke fluent English. This role may not have been difficult for some actor who is not that great in spoken English. But even after her proficiency in the language, she convinces you that she is struggling with it. This is a sign of a great actor and of course the director has done a tremendous job too.

Priya Anand is so convincing as Shashi’s American niece. She sounds exactly the way my sister and I do when we talk to our Indian relatives, where we tinge our usual Jersey-fresh, rapid-fire American English with a little _masala_ so they’re not totally befuddled. It’s hilarious to me that Rama (Shashi’s classmate) is the same actor who played the senior-class bully in _3 Idiots._ And yeah, watching movies is a good way to learn a language.
