As of May 8, 2024… I have approximately 150 purple Martins hanging around my Gourds and houses. I’m offering 187 holes and the colony keeps enlarging every year I feel very fortunate and lucky to have watched it grow from just a few birds 10 years ago
I live in Montgomery, TX and this is my third year to try and get P Martins to house in my gourd colony on my property with no success. I've viewed videos and research and don't understand why they don't establish nests here. They visit and land but don't build nests. I do see the blue birds here as well. Would love it if someone local could visit to see what I am doing wrong.
did you ever get any Purple Martins to nest, you're in a good spot in Texas. im in Nashville Tennessee and I had them from 1994-2006, but they quit coming, in May 2021 an older male showed up successfully rising two babies in a gourd 'next year 2022 had another older pair raising four babies in a Troyer gourd, 2023 none nesting, none nesting so far 2024,only saw an older male fly over 4-20, I have a nice setup, very open, offering 86 cavities. I use predator guards. I also have Bluebirds nesting. I just don't understand what is going on with these Purple Martins. Sometimes I think It's just a matter of luck attracting them. Hopefully you will get them.

We love to hear that!
This was fascinating. Thanks so much for sharing it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love my martins!!! Their song and energy - so thankful for the visitors every spring and summer I am so sad to see them go at end of season
the sky is so quiet when they're gone
@@PurpleMartinConservation it’s so sad when they leave and then I check arrival map daily starting in February! Right around the corner
