      @singwithjosh thank you 🙏🏽 . I combine daily practice with staccato exercises such as googoo, lala, then visualize the muscles around the chords gently staying in place. Voila!!! 🤗

    Wow so glad I found you today. Found you through your how to sing Oh Holy Night video which I am preparing to perform. Loving your content. Will be working with it and may look you up for lessons as well. Cheers!

    I just came across your lessons and this is the first one I have watched. This was very helpful and made a lot of sense. I will definitely be watching more.

    I have talked in mix (or maybe lighter fold closure? Is it rhe same?😂) my entirw life. I dont have a pure chest voice. I cant seem to get it.. as a male tenor😂 i mean i can sing fine, there isnt much air xoming through, but it still sounds soft. Maybe i am constantly stretching the folds for mix? If i try to get good fold closure and thickness, getting that sort of textury sound you have when speaking low, i can get that, but it is just the hole in the back of the throat that closes a bit, creating a fry type effect. I have looked all over the internet to find out what that part of the throat is, and it says palatopharyngal arc on google, but not a single word is written in regards to singing, and opening/closing that arc... a little rant haha, but yeah, when i tey to get good chest, i basically just xlose that arc instead.. (it looks like a sideways mouth deep inside the mouth, right before you see the throat wall.)

      Hey, thanks so much for your comment. Your chest voice is in there somewhere. We just have to bring it out with some reactionary sounds. Like, if you were really forced to yell at the top of your lungs to get someone’s attention, that would be some part of your chest register. You might think of that as a way to get your foot in the door in regards to your chestvoice.…
      I’ll try to do a video about this situation!

    Hello, thank you for this video, it is exactly what I Was looking for. I have a question, how do I know that I am closing my vocal chords too tight or not enough? And how to combine vocal folds adduction and false vocal retraction since they are so close? Hope that I ve made myself clear, english is not my langage. .

      Usually vowel distortion is the biggest “tell” of an underlying problem, like over approximating vocal cords.

    New subscriber here, 59YO semi-professional rock/country singer (alto), and I've found that as I get older I'm having trouble hitting the higher notes in my range. Is this normal? Anyone else experienced this?

    • @singwithjosh
      @singwithjosh  10 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for tuning in. I think that is totally normal. As we age, we lose a bit of flexibility in our voice and our bodies. I think the struggle is trying to stay up-to-date on our technique and make sure we’re not falling into any bad habits.

      @@singwithjosh Thanks for the encouragement. I've already put some of your techniques into practice and noticed an improvement. I KNOW I've fallen into some bad habits as I've been singing pretty much all my life, and the only times I ever got around a voice coach, I was a dumb@ss kid who figured 'screw this I'll do it my way' - WRONG!

    Hi Josh, do you have any advice for Muscle Tension Dysphonia? I have suffered with this for going on 4/5 years and have tried everything to get my voice back. I can no longer sing as I just have no voice and even before I speak my throat feels tight and strained 😢 Thank you in advance for any advice you may have.

      Hi, it might be best for me to hear you on a zoom call or something. I’m not a doctor, but we might be able to find some exercises that will release and relieve some of the tension. Can you get in touch with me through my boulder voice lessons website? I’d be happy to help out. 🙏

      Hey, it’s all the same basic technique… work on the vowels and phrases, and adjust it for pop/rock/jazz, etc.
